Pikes Peak

Actually......I hope to GOD that (if we get PP) we don't just get the paved version, I would REALLY love to see one similar to the GT2 version, it just doesn't feel like Pikes Peak without the dirt.
So what I'm getting at is just two layouts, paved and dirt.

I got to do the real Pikes Peak 2 years ago, before the pavement.

Wicked awesome, but I wouldn't expect it in GT5. Otherwise, we likely would've had it before SSRX.

Well, it used to be basically a dirt track the size of nurburgring going increasing over a mile in altitude from start to finish. It is home to the pikes peak race which is basically rally on steroids. But now it is completely on tarmac since the whole thing got paved. (or so I've heard)

There. Now you love pikes peak.

enough said , i want it . :grumpy:

i like rallying too much i was excited for it when gt5 released and its worse no pikes peak .

why

McClarenDesign
We more/less already have it. The Escudo.

Yea, those cars are more or less the same (I think). What is it, 800 some horsepower? They are rally cars on steroids.

I've hoped for Pikes Peak since the day GT5 got released but I don't think we'll ever have it now: PD are just too slow and ill-organized, it seems. Fourteen months on and still no sign of a classic track pack either. If only they kept us informed as to what they're actually working on, we wouldn't be left expecting stuff in vain. But transparency is obviously not part of their policy. Back on topic, I truly hate the Sierra Club for killing this legendary hillclimb...

Do you have any idea how much modeling, texturing, etc it would take to get pikes peak in Gran Turismo? It is about the distance of the Nurburgring! It would most definitely take away time from other, more worth while projects PD could be working on such as more cars, shorter and more famous tracks, and other minor details that need to be sorted out and are far more important than adding in Pikes Peak. You really need to think about this stuff before you decide to rage about it in a thread.
Pikes Peak will never be in Gran Turismo 5. Thats the blunt truth.

i realize that but do you know how many people would buy this track if it was a DLC! i can bet that over 10,000 people would buy it within 1 week! that makes this project easily a very high priority if they want money.

If you're interested in the details of track modelling and texturing, I suggest you check SMS's community-funded Project CARS. All designers and artists inform members like myself of their everyday progress with notes and screenshots so you can actually see how tracks are made from scratch and how long it takes. And the truth is, they're much faster than PD and their work just looks and feels awesome. Plus, we know for sure they'll make Pikes Peak and a couple of other hillclimbs as well as Iain Bell, unlike Kaz, promptly answers any question asked to the best of his ability.

LOL... I've taken the train up Pikes Peak a few times. It's a lovely scenic trip. ;)

And it's not the Sierra Club that's paving the road. It's tourism.

And it's not the Sierra Club that's paving the road. It's tourism.

From Wikipedia: "A project to pave the remainder of the road is scheduled to be completed by 2012. The project is in response to a suit by the Sierra Club over damage caused by the gravel and sediment that is constantly washed off the road into the alpine environment. The road remains open during construction. As of September 11, 2011, only 0.7 miles of the road remains unpaved."

Once again... do we believe everything on wikipedia? Pikes Peak toll road collects $10 per person for a trip to the top. The more people and cars they can get up there, the more $ they make. Pikes Peak is NOT a national park.

Yes there was litigation. But there's more to the story than what you read online. Once the paving is complete and paid for, do you think they'll lower the fee to drive to the top? I highly doubt it.

Yes, I have looked at cars and the screenshots look great. Isn't there a beta of that game out or something?

I remember this picture here:

Since we got Spa, I think it's safe to assume we'll be getting Pikes Peak and quite a few others in the future.

Using your logic it doesn't stand for a very good business model:

First week DLC revenue:
10000 buyers in the first week * $5.00 = $50,000

Cost already spent:
1) Roundtrip Airfare for Track Modelling team from Tokyo to Denver: $20,000 ($2000 *10 ppl)
2) Freight for Camera and computer equipment: $5000
3) Rental cars for 3-4 weeks: $3500
4) Hotel for 3-4 weeks: $15000 ($750/week * 5 rooms)

Total: $43500

That doesn't include the cost to test the course with real cars($$$), cost of shipping said cars to Pikes Peak, and things like food and gas.

Sony is paying the bills, so I would imagine they want a much higher return on investment than just 10,000 in the first week. Maybe closer 100,000 downloads the first week. My point is it takes a lot of time and money to make these tracks.

On a side note, the first "Dirt" game has Pikes Peak, and is compatible with a wheel. You can pick it up for like 5 bucks somewhere these days.

yes, pikes peak should have been in the game in the first place!
And for those that are worried about it being almost completely paved, remember that PD has versions of tracks of previous years (such as LeMans).
I mean, they can totally make a gravel version (imo all we need), and a paved one for the realism junkies.

I guess the new pikes competition will be like the new F1. More safety, less excitement. :D Well most motorsports are, except maybe demolition derby?

Remember this one?

I'm looking forward to a 100% paved Pikes Peak. It will become the ultimate Touge race.

I'm not. Keep it unpaved so pikes peak stays a special challenge. If it becomes all paved it will become a normal time attack road.

1: No need for an all caps rage.

2: I know you "didn't feel like it" but members and mods are going to have a problem if you start creating duplicate threads.

1000000% agree with this. ^

^ only 10,000 for this DLC? I was thinking more along the lines of everyone who ever bought and still plays GT5, aren't we at over 5 million?
PD and Sony must be raking in a fortune over DLC now that the structure is set in place. Think of how simple, a simple X on the gamepad (in Sony Store), then another X (on main menu DLC install) translates to so much cash for PD. I hope they use the new cash money bags to spoil us, and themselves.

Once again... do we believe everything on wikipedia?

So maybe we will a more respectable source like CNN (http://articles.cnn.com/1999-04-15/...ment-clean-water-act-toll-road?_s=PM:NATURE): "The Sierra Club sued the city in August 1998, claiming violations of the Clean Water Act by allowing highwayrelated erosion to damage the Pikes Peak watershed. [...] The Sierra Club didnt ask in their lawsuit that the last 12 miles of the road be paved, just that the surface be stabilized. [...] Most likely it will be a hard surface."

I'm looking forward to a 100% paved Pikes Peak. It will become the ultimate Touge race.

The touge roads of Mt Fuji are there for that. And we need GT5 to feature this great discipline, just as we need a track like Ebisu. These aren't lightyears away from Fukuoka and they'd make millions happy. But Pikes Peak is the epitome of hillclimb and so I believe it must stay.

Yes, I have looked at cars and the screenshots look great. Isn't there a beta of that game out or something?

It's actually pre-alpha but builds are downloadable and fully playable. New builds and patches are released several times a week. Currently they're putting the finishing touches to Spa, Silverstone, Willow Springs and Bathurst. Need I say more?

Totally agree. ;-)

You already have the Pikes Peak* in the game.
*Audi

Good one, and I believe that is the only one we will see. Now if we had a car called "Drag Race" we would be set.
