Wow, good going!

I think that after all my nearly 300 races, I've got 8 poles, 6 fastest laps, and only 13 wins :boggled:

Ah, b_t, thanks. I'm not too proud though, you know I'm gaming this ! It's way more admirable what you do ... just race 👍.

@Mwerte
You're a step further now :) ?

Also met our legendary @Famine for one race but we didn't get to actually race each other with the whole field between us ... on another day maybe 👍
Ah yes. I wouldn't have been racing anyway, as I'm still doing some investigation into how DR rises and falls - by finishing in specific positions relative to my starting position - but even so my one fast lap was about three seconds off yours, so even if we had been on the same bit of tarmac it wouldn't have lasted long

Yes, I don't worry about being slow! Had some great races at Kyoto today, despite being 5 seconds off the pace.....

Now that GT6 servers have a definite end date, after I get to 322 Sport Mode races (I'm at about 240), I'll probably play more GT6. Better enjoy the last three months of what might possibly be the final true Gran Turismo game.

Had my first GT Sport racing encounter with a QM Exile at Kyoto tonight - @StirlingMoose ! :)

First time for me too, well second actually as I met @ROCKET JOE earlier too. After all this time of not seeing any friends from here in races I get two in one night. Maybe it's thinning-out in the dailies. I've not been doing many Sport mode races. The cars and tracks don't often inspire me so I've been trying out the new cars, finishing the missions, generally exploring the off-line side, plus having some fun with the Geezers.

Yes, that was great really. I'm way too slow in typing messages, so a "hi hi" was the max possible :).

Had the P3 guy later in two races and hoped to keep up somehow, but in the first race I got punted at Druids and fell back to 10th and in the second one I messed up Paddock Hill and went a bit wide ... 🤬 .

Tried to say hi, but for some reason I kept getting 'message cannot be sent'.......

I've not managed to get the in-race message thing to work either. There's not enough time before or after the race.

@ROCKET JOE - I entered the next race at Brands but you weren't in it although a few of the others were. I completely messed up the race I was in with you. I was doing fine until the end of the first lap when I somehow managed to reverse into the pits. Didn't do much better in the next one so that's when I switched to the Pug at Kyoto and met BT.

I got a message from one of the QM regulars who doesn't post here saying that it's still going strong and there are even some people returning from GTS. I might be tempted one of these days.

First of all, a Happy New Year to everybody !

Hope you're all fine - done my 100th race on New Years Day and got me the Senna pole trophy :).
Wasn't it a nice and funny idea to hold a Sambabus race on NIS ? The opposition however was quite fierce ( not to say rude ) and I had to force my smile more than once ...

Anyway, my first oval experience, maybe I should've asked you @bone_tone for some tips 👍 ...

This. It's useless the way it is. I would've used it a couple of times tonight  !

PS
How's that move called when you push a car from behind / besides to make him lose his rear ?

Hey hey people!

Just wanted to say I wish you all the best for 2018!!! I miss the ability to race with you all, but it seems like GTS is way more regional than GT6. I thank you all for the racing we had, and miss it deeply.

Again, best to you and yours in what will hopefully be a great year for everyone!!!

Cheers

I have the same down here in Australia never getting to see any of the old QM regulars (not even the Japanese ones).

On another note, I haven't had very many races yet but it seems like us Aussies have gotten a raw deal with server position. It's been too difficult to get decent racing when we have such poor connection down here. My internet speed is fine but I never get more than three yellow bars and this is also the most I have ever seen from any Aussies. Many Aussies only have 1 red bar and are very hard to race with due to the lag. Nearly all Japanese players have 5 green bars and at the very minimum 4. I kind of understand why they've put the server in Japan, being a Japanese company and all, but it really makes it unfair for everyone else. It really needs to be centralized so we all get a fair shake.

Anyway that's my whinge out of the way, cheers all, have a great year.

@FPV MIC

I can relate to your situation in a way, but on the opposite side of the fence. Here, it's the South Americans that usually have woeful connections, although it's not confined to just them. There are pockets of poor connections no matter what flag is flying, but it's still better than the P2P system of GT6. At least there are no more "dolphin diving" cars, and the teleportation effect has decreased dramatically.

Having said that though, the quality of competition has suffered. In my humble opinion, people's "Give a 🤬 factor" has hit all time lows, and I haven't adjusted to it as fast as I should have. Conversely, that has highlighted the "good ones" even more. It's a different game, in many ways.

I just miss the variety of international goodness that many names brought to the QM's... was nice to know there was a International Brotherhood of like minded racers who took pride in their craft. It still exists, but it seems fewer and further between. The regionalisation seems to concentrate the effect as well. But hey, there's always bad with the good... right?

Cheers

For some reason, all but two of my wins have come on ovals! The secret seems to be to qualify well, and watch out carefully all the way round your car. Also it's sometimes possible to anticipate trouble in front of you, when cars get too close, and you can make up places from that.

In the touring car races in the UK they call the manoeuvre you're referring to as a 'love tap'!

All the best to you too, and I hope that we do get the chance to race again some time!

Happy New Year to the other QM Exiles too

It looks like the chances of us meeting up in sport races are pretty slim so how about some lobby racing? I've never hosted a room before but I don't mind having a go if nobody else does. Thursday evenings would suit me best as I don't have any other commitments. I could open a friends-only room and we could have some fun.

Sounds like a good idea - I've never even entered a lobby in GTS, never mind set one up!

The key for winning the ovals races is to leave the fight to the last lap ....stick behing the fastest car let it pass in the turns and get it back in the straight and make you move at the end ...

Anticipating the traffic ahead and behind gave me many spots that night 👍. I usually started from 1 or 2 but you have to be lucky to win from up front. If there's one guy that can keep up and is willing to race dirty, you can't escape - except moving off the line, losing momentum and give away your spot and maybe even some more to the following cars. The Sambabus might be special with little hp ( all you can do is keep that thing running ), but I guess the above said partially applies to every car.
There's been a couple of guys, especially one from France, who worked their way from staying midpack until the last two laps and then starting to "love-tap" themselves to the win, even using the infield.

You seem to be right ... however, there wasn't one car that could pass me ( or anyone else making no mistakes ) in a clean way. So, like mentioned above, you gotta do it dirty then.

Lucky me I didn't bother too much. It's been great moments when I noticed a car behind me entering the infield right before a turn, me pulling out to a wider line and then watching the guy losing control without someone to lean on and crashing into some wall :D.

That's a good thing I think ... and Thursday sounds good.
I've never raced in any lobbies ever though ... with too many things happening unforeseen in my life I never wanted to be "not reliable" ... so I'm curious how this turns out.

Compared to GTS, GT6 QMs have been quite minor events. Everything's been very familiar. No matter if it's been a brilliant racer or a troll, you knew them all and you knew what to expect. A guy like me who's never been too self-confident really appreciated that much. It's a different world now and I keep telling myself it might be a chance to take skill and race-craft to a higher level ... and hopefully find an even bigger "International Brotherhood" in the end ( Kaz's dream ). Time will tell ...

I had one race in the Samba bus. 8th to 2nd by lap 2 but then the leader weaves about for the remaining laps. It could have been fun but if someone doesn't want to get passed on an oval, they won't. It looked hilarious (as I wasn't involved) seeing the fist fight in the rear view. At one point, 4 or 5 bus's had a really funny pile up that almost blocked the track. Good to see that my SR S has put me with good, safe drivers.

Enjoying the 10 lappers now as they're a lot more relaxed (for me) than the short races. Still starting at the back but I've had a few top 10's and even a 5th. No idea on pit strategy other than pitting when the fronts are too far gone. Usually lap 7.

It looks like I'm going to have to start qualifying now though as my DR is dropping enough to give me easier races. I got to B from starting last but it seems anything less than 10th from last place results in a DR drop now. I guess it's time I found my proper DR level.

Correct, if the following car races cleanly. But I've seen the opposite, believe me  ...
With the slightest tap the bus loses momentum, enough to get passed.

I can only encourage you to do qualifying laps, you don't like it ... but it's worth it 👍.

I'll start the qualifying tonight. I was just enjoying my old QM overtaking mini game for as long as I could.

I can shortcut the hot lapping to about 10 minutes/5 laps anyway. I usually work off the optimum sectors rather than my actual best lap as I find it a little demoralising chasing a fastest lap and a single small slide ruining it all.

I fancy a bit of mid grid racing anyway as I was spending a bit too much time getting by the slower, more erratic drivers.

I enjoy the 10 lappers, they certainly seem much cleaner, but like you I can't work out pit strategy.

Some try not to pit, but that doesn't seem like the best strategy. Whatever I'm doing seems to work, as I've starting mid-teens, and usually finishing about 6th - in fact, my drives remind me of Graham Hill's 1966 Indianapolis win, where he started on the fifth row and won without overtaking another car!

One guy the other day, at Suzuka, finished 30 seconds ahead of second place, but I forgot to save the replay to see what strategy he had adopted.....

I've tried maybe 9 or 10 cars and either it's my driving style (rough and ready) or the tires get worn down around the same time. It's possible to do a no stop but by lap 8, they'd fallen so far off the cliff, it was nigh on impossible to turn in on them. Fuel map didn't play a part for me as anything less than full saw me constantly dropping back. It might be able to eke out an extra lap on worn tires by running lean for a bit though. Never thought of trying that...

I didn't get to test anything tonight. Ran qualifying then company turned up. Typical.

Right, here's the plan. I'll open a room about 7-30ish tomorrow night. It will be QM style to start with - shortish races with no fuel or tyre-wear. Friends-only, which includes friends of friends. The room will be called "Qm exiles". I'll send a message out when I'm ready. For those of you who haven't done this sort of thing before there will be a blue icon next to the lobby thing showing that there are rooms with friends in. Go to the lobby page and check the rooms with friends box and it should come up. No guarantee of how smoothly this will go so I'll try to keep it simple. Bring an F40.
Hope to see some of you there - it might be a bit past bed-time for our friends from the Americas.
