Wow i was watching the race, when he got lifted i was praying he would survive. So sad to see him go.

I am now more glad then ever that I was able to see him win at Indy earlier this year. R.I.P. Dan

Absolutley devastated at the news. A tremendously talented racer and a huge loss to motorsport. My lasting memory of the man will be the sheer elation in his voice in that radio transmission after he won the 500.

RIP Dan Wheldon

I honestly didn't know the man as I don't watch Indy but I saw the crash on the news. Didn't know until I saw this thread that he was dead.

Wow. What a shock. The initial accident didn’t look that bad, just two guys making contact and finding the wall. But then it snowballed and two more cars became airborne, and that was bad enough … but then Wheldon arrived on-scene, sailing through the air, and you knew it was a bad accident. I can only hope he didn’t suffer, that the force of the impact was enough to knock him out and that he never had to feel anything, because that was one of the worst accidents I’ve ever seen.

Rest in peace.

RIP Dan Wheldon. You were a true champion of your sport. Thanks for the memories, bud.

RIP Dan.

Was following the updates on twitter and the mood got blacker and blacker so I feared the worst, and that's what we got. Every driver lost is one driver too many.

My thoughts are with his family and friends.

Horrible news. A fantastic talent and true gentleman lost today. I hoped we were done with deaths in motorsport but this shows how dangerous it still is and how much we still need to improve. We will miss you, Dan.

I'm shocked at what I have seen today. A sad day for Motorsport.

R.I.P Dan Wheldon, You will be missed. :(

We lost another one of our huge family of drivers and motorsport enthusiasts. I already wrote it on several places, but again, my deepest condolences to his family, friends and fans. He shall rest in peace and, while it's unlikely, let us hope that we won't have to mourn about another one.
