Last night I started a private game in multiplayer but with just me in it. I could then hunt in peace knowing that I'm not going to get popped by some other player. I also tried to do one of the hideout missions on my own but it was too difficult with the starter pistol. I've managed to get the carbine now so will have another crack on my own tonight.

For me I'm just addicted to hunting, even though I have no specific hunts to do online at least I love just tracking an animal and using expert mode so you know you're not safe at all from predators. There's something incredibly satisfying about trying to track a cougar or something and popping it before it has a chance to attack, and there's alot of immersion to be found if you take it seriously as you know you're never safe in the wild west. I have primarily made myself into a hunter, for that reason if anybody's looking to complete their hunting challenges and wants to get the most challenge and fun out of them, drop me a message some time 👍.
I do the exact same thing. I just run around for hours hunting animals. And since the animals are so dynamic, it is constantly new and refreshing. Out of nowhere Heather and I got attacked by 2 Cougars at the same time. We didnt have a chance. haha

It really is amazing how dynamic they are. One time I was trying to save a guy from some coyotes, after they killed him they started trying to get me.

It's also cool how they have wolves traveling in packs. I shot one and out of nowhere 4 were trying to kill me.

I spent a good hour straight last night looking for my last boar to kill for the master hunter challenge and finally I had pretty much given up for the night and was just standing beside my horse when BAM I got tackled by a damn boar! I had been looking for one for an hour and then I give up and I am just standing and looking out over the scenery and I get tackled by a boar from behind, what luck....

Fear the cougars, they're the most likely to end you as they're reasonably small in comparison to the other powerful predators as wolves don't travel alone and bears are just damn big. That's why I love hunting with expert targeting mode, I love games which are atmospheric and make me feel vulnerable, as fun as it can be to just destroy a weak opposition, knowing you could easily become the prey makes for an interesting game of cat and mouse which I really enjoy.

Also, at that boar story, it's little tales like that which I also love in games. I have loads of cool (and often quite long) gaming stories from GTA, Bad Company 2 and now Red Dead.

Oh yeah there will be tons of stories from this game for sure.

One of the most funny moments happened this weekend. I was wondering around with about 7 other friends. One of my friends just started playing and we got separated. About 2 minutes later I hear him yelling "why wont this stupid horse go any further. It just wont move!!!!" Seconds later I see his horse tumbling end over end down the hill right next to me. Followed by "Dude did you see that!!!" While he was laughing. He survived and the horse died. After I clear the tears from my eyes I reply with "yeah I saw it look to your left" He literally landed right next to me after falling down at least 80 ft. Then he ran up and ripped me right off my horse and ran off with it. Just hilarious. I could go on and on and on. So much funny stuff in this game. Especially while in multiplayer free roam.

I got those 4 legendary animals pretty easy (too easy for them to be called legendary, I had a harder time hunting for beaver). Except Brumas the bear, the other 3 I encountered by the road, didn't have to bait them at all 👎

It seems like I'm one of the few that made through the whole game (98% now) without glitches. After watching these clips, I wish it happened to me

I have had a few funny glitches but nothing close to that! I would have woke up everyone in my house and made them come look at the donkey woman, and then my wife would have just looked at me mad and said I was stupid and laid back down.

The only glitch I've noticed is that I rescued a guy from some robbers, than when I was collecting from dead bodies their horse were invisible.

Those damn cougars upset me..I could be observing scenery or simpy looking for something to skin and suddenly "rraarrrr" and my horse is dead, then the damn beast will come and finish me off! It's almost a one hit kill due to the face that sometimes John takes more than than normal getting back up. Definitley a fearsome creature, for sure!

Yeah, those things are pretty scary. When you get hit by a cougar or a bear, make sure you use the medicine right away, don't chance it. I was in Tall Trees doing the Bearly Legal achievement and was up to like 15 bear, then 2 of them double team me, needless to say, I lost :grumpy:

Some scenery shots, just because I was bored;

I tried to get photos up in the snowy mountains past Tall Trees but I kept getting attacked every time I stopped :|

I was getting attacked like crazy yesterday by cougars and can't find a single one today to kill! I have to kill 2 with my knife and can't find any, its like they know I am looking for them or something.

The Cougars are lethal, I was on my horse earier and a couple of Cougars came for me, I managed to fend them off but then another one came out of nowhere less than a min later and killed my horse. I've had that horse almost from the start, it was only my second horse. I managed to kill that Cougar but I was in an area with Cougars and suddenly no horse and that puts you on edge a bit. I kept hearing the growling and I saw one following me but I shot at it and it didn't attack. I kept hearing the growls for a while though, fortunately I managed to find a horse still alive at an attacked wagon so I jumped on and just rode.

I don't think I'm that far into the game, I don't get much playing time. To give you an idea I think I'm still on level 7 of FFXIII and I've not given up on it, I just haven't had chance to get much furher yet. It's probably the most dynamic environment I've seen in a game to date, the random encouters, the animals behaviour changing depending on if they're in a pack or not. The only thing that gets me sometimes is when you see a shootout and it can be hard to work out who's who at times.

Another thing that happened today, I shot a guy in Armadillo while he was trying to cut up a woman but he was stood right outside he saloon and when i shot him the bullet must have gone through him and into the saloon thoguh a window he was stood infront of. Next thing there's a load of bullets coming out the saloon though the windows and door at me. I must have hit someone I shouldn't have .

I've not done the legendary hunts in single player, but it doesn't work so simply online which makes you kill waves of the normal creature in order to make the legendary one show up. Switch auto aim off and taking on 10-12 cougars followed by the jaguar + 2-3 more cougars is most certainly not an easy ride.

I have some more stories from today, after racking up a huge bounty on a rooftop a posse of 2-3 came after my bounty, as I fought off dozens of lawmen I managed to rack up a 9 streak on the players as well before a lawmen took me out.

That wasn't much special until I went on a hillside and viewed the same location seeing the posse taking on lawmen. I didn't fire, sitting miles away just playing lookout with my Rolling Block rifle and watching, waiting. Suddenly one of them tries a stupid range shot at me with a repeater so I pop him, then his buddy on the roof and mount my horse and run like hell. I see a randomer in Mexico, Chuparosa, who gets a bounty on his head so I make haste to there, get some high ground from afar and headshot that guy. By now there's 4 or so guys all on my case, I decide the best bet is run to Blackwater and have a stakeout on a rooftop, as I run across the river back into America the posse has finally caught up, within range but I just ride for my life with my superior horse getting a big lead by Blackwater. The Posse by now has given up, but the guy I killed for bounty is still on the case and a rooftop standoff is in order. First he tries to dynamite me but instead gets killed by one of mine, then he works out how to get up onto the roof and a good 5 minute duel begins at range. I swap to my Winchester realising the Springfield left me vulnerable and my Rolling Block rifle is no good to me now. I weaken him then he pops out to take his final stand and finds a Winchester round in the head.

He finally accepted he was outclassed and left me alone when I ran for the forest up in Tall Trees, good job to as I was planning an ambush using the trees to confuse and disorientate him where the blip wouldn't be a give away. I'm not an aggressive player, but if someone attacks me or if they have a bounty on their head I won't shy away from the trigger. Most of the time that lands you in a whole lot of trouble and I highly recommend unlocking a good mount and using it to get yourself out of sticky situations so you can fight on your own terms.

I was watching AOTS and they included a couple new videos of glitches in the game in their opening ATN segment that look hilarious:

After watching a lot of these so-called glitches on YouTube, many seem way too obvious, and hilarious to just be glitches. Considering all the Easter Eggs in this game, and that Rockstar programmers and developers have a long history of including lots of humor and Easter Eggs in their games, I suspect many of these were intentionally placed or at the very least kept in the game just to add more humor into the gameplay experience.

If they are genuine glitches, I hope they don't patch them, as I think they are great.

Red Dead lets you play your own music on the PS3 while playing 👍 I dunno if it's down to the game or Sony's last FW update, but playing music off the HDD doesn't require you to turn off Red Dead :)

I've had much more problem with Grizzly bears, I left a hunting lodge heading towards Blackwater and spotted a bear in the distance, got my scoped rifle out and got a nice headshot while on horse back. Suddenly out of total suprise I got tackled off the horse by another bear (which killed the horse), he tackled me again and I got up just in time to shotgun it to death. After that I had constant bear's coming after me. I got out of the woods with 12 fresh bear skins and was almost a nervous wreck. :scared:

As for Cougars, I can hear them better before they strike and usually hear them in the general area, though once I had a invisible Cougar strike. He got me twice before he became visable

Oh and I have only used Expert aiming (no autoaim).

Nice, I didn't even think to try. It is part of a firmware update a while ago but the Game developers still have to enable it for it to work.

You can do that with any game on 360, have been since I got mine. They just put that into the PS3?

So I'm having a hard time doing the missions, for some reason hunting birds and other animals just seems so much more fun.

I'm actually getting rather good at the bird part, still need some practice on the land animals. A more powerful gun would probably also help.

Ending Spoiler
Sad ending, but what the hell? I don't wanna keep playing as the kid, I wanted to be John for the free roamy stuff. I know I could just revert to a save but I'm not the kind to go back. The kid looks like such a dork with the 'tache and such, they should have just scrapped trying to make him look like John.

It's his voice that kills it for me. Intersting concept though, and you do feel some connecton with the character as you effectively trained him to hunt etc. He was also telling John about a book he read where a son takes revenge for his fathers death. I remember feeling like I was actually placed in Jack's shoes, with a personal vested interest when looking for Edgar Ross. They should have at least given us the option to switch back to John's character model though, without having to replay the missions.

I agree, I don't want to play as Jack, this was quite a dissapointment to me. I also feel like reverting back but I don't think I will.

While I haven't played much yet since the end but I can't imagine finishing off the remaining side quests of people I met as john will make much sense.

I finished the last three stranger tasks as Jack, and it seems they've had his voice actor record all the lines for them. They even adjust diaglogue I think, as the california stranger talks about being there for weeks, then pauses, looks at Jack and comments it might be actually be generations.

Just finished up the last of the SP hunting challenges last night, so now all challenges are done and got the Legend of the West outfit (nothing special btw). I'm almost considering buying a live subscription so I can do the MP challenges now.

Knifing cougars was fun (there's a joke in there somewhere), but knifing grizzlys not so much, even though I find I die by the former much more. The hunting challenge that too me the longest, surprisingly, was racoon/beaver/skunk. Pain. In. The. Glutes. It took about 4 hours of searching, I could have sworn when you're looking for a specific animal they reduce the spawning as the bloody things were everywhere before and after the challenge!

I'd say, like others, most of my time was definitely spent hunting, whether for challenges or not, I can't get enough it's so fun to see an eagle fly out the corner of your eye, swing the barrel, lead the target and pull off a wing shot. Best way to make money too, have way too much of the stuff now, like $16,000 and nothing left to buy!

One thing I'e a little concerned about now is that I've almost got 100%, and I'm not so sure how much life is left in the game after I do that. With GTA you have a spralling city with so much going on and I can still lose a few hours just messing around, but the towns in RDR are basic and stale. Without challenges and a need for money, I wonder how long it takes for hunting to become boring. But the poker is fun, especially the high stakes game.

Don't we all.

Ha!

I haven't found a single beaver in the game for the side mission I'm on right now:ouch: I also believe they change the spawns of the animals when they are your challenge as well because before I had to knife 2 cougars like I need to now I was being dragged off my horse by them every 10 minutes, now I can't find a single one.....

Its because the AI is dynamic. Which means constantly changing.

Hola Gringos!

I have the problem that when i want to play online i can't find other people, i am always alone! Up to now i happened only two times that i found one (!!) guy i played with! I can wait hours and i dont find other players, is there any trick to use??

My isp is rather slow, but i dont have problems with all other games i have, even gta4 works pretty well!

I HOPE there is any trick to play find other people because the game is really damn great, unique, just like all the other rockstar games!

You could try having a friend invite you to a game they're in which has people, but of course you can't always do that.

Do we need a thread for 360/PS3 players to post there gamer tags? I don't mind maintaining a thread with details.
