I finished the story today and have to agree with allot of the other people about feeling pretty bad about the ending. I had a feeling that it was going to end the way it did but was just hoping not, but at least you know there will be a follow up game now.

Have you seen the credits screen, if not, there's another mission before the game really ends.
hint: Blackwater, stagecoach

I watched the credits for about 3 minutes and then skipped, I guess I shouldn't have? :ouch: I did take great joy in the last thing I got to do before the credits started rolling though, it was 7 headshots :) What a total SOB.

I didn't get all that much joy from it, I wanted to put more of a 'personal touch' into the situation. I did anyway after the fact. (Was nicely near the river :p)

Yep, that was what i was talking about. I did the same thing you did on that mission, though I'm on my second game save and this time I'm just gonna disarm him, then proceed to show him Mexico via my lasso before leaving him playing chicken with the train

Ending comments:
At first I was feeling bad about the ending, what with John dying and such when it seemed a situation he could have got out of. Then I stepped back and took in the bigger perspective of what was really going on and suddenly it made alot more sense which made me actually feel quite good about the ending. Initially I was irritated I had to play Jack but there was no other way to give the ending justice other then Johns death as in his eyes his sacrifice meant his family would be free from the danger which John brung with him. Now I just respect John as a character more and I already really liked him as it is, sure I don't have the same attachment to Jack but he is growing on me steadily despite being far less cool.

So I'm on a mission that seems impossible to pass. It's the very first Seth mission where you meet up with Moses, however I can't get past the part where you pay off the bounty because the game won't let me. Can you only pay off a bounty at certain times or something?

Edit: Worked after the 3rd time.

I'm playing and loving and the game so far. But I have one thing that really annoys me. Twice I've fallen into the water and died instantly. There's no excuse for that. Even if it kills your horse if it falls in the water, you should have the option to swim to safety.

But a minor complaint in a game that's pretty awesome so far. You can't make an ambitious, expansive, open world game like this and get it all right - Fallout 3, Oblivion, the GTA games, etc. all have their minor glitches and annoyances that are generally far outweighed by their awesomeness.

So, I've been waiting for RDR for over a week and a half and what does GameFly inform me is on my way? Alpha Protocol. What?! I forgot I enter this in my Q to research it. Sucks for me. Now, it's on my way and it looks like a POS. It looks like a PS2.5 version of Syphon Filter. Do. Not. Want.

For those here that have finished RDR, how is the replay value? The online play?

Online play is a blast! Truth be told, like any open world game where you place a bunch of randoms in a whole game world you'll find some clowns but online is really fantastic. Hunting, rabbits, wolves, bears, birds with some friends is cool. Taking on a fort loaded with outlaws who will stop at nothing from killing you, your friends, even your damn horse is insane.

The single player is immense and tells a deep story of a man seeking redemption for his past, and the tale flows perfectly, even with the occasinal oddball you meet in the game. (Yes, it's Seth) With singleplayer challenges to complete, multiplayer challenges to complete, this game has a replay value whicj for me is immense. Oh and let;s not forget the bounty hunts and the ability to drag someone behind you and your horse with your lasso! This game is very good.

Definitley buy it. You will love it.

I got joy from it because they did a great job at making you just despise that guy by the end of the game, I also pulled out the semi auto shotgun after the showdown and emptied it into his brain. After done with that fun I was like, I'm going to get his brother and wife now, screw this. Went right up to the camp site and it was gone that fast! lol, same goes for the cabin, nobody there either, looks like his brother and wife were happy and ran off together....:dopey:

Ahhhhh, that sucks more than normal because Alpha Protocol looks so freaking bad. Bad graphics, bad game mechanics, just has bad smeared all over it. As far as RDR replay value, I would say it has more than any other game I have seen besides good racing games like Gran Turismo ( I still play GT3!). I usually am pretty much done with a game after I finish the story line and all that, but this game has a ton of side things to do like hunting challenges and all that I'm not 100 percent done with the game even though I am done with the main story. So there is that and the multiplayer is huge and open because it has its own challenges to complete just like single player as well. I have yet to play an actual online game type like FFA or other game types they have yet. I was trying to do some of the challenges they have in free roam but everyone acts like D heads and just wants to shoot you non stop instead of working with you to do challenges. I don't know how people act on PS3 but people that play on 360 are such douche bags for the most part:crazy: So now when someone shoots me I will equip my sniper rifle up on a hill and just spawn trap the living hell out of that person who killed me for no reason until they rage quit:dopey: It is super easy to do if you are up high and have the sniper rifle because they can't even come close to shooting you and the spawn system is a complete turd and respawns you in the same spots right around where you died every single time you respawn, well within shooting range for me with my sniper rifle everytime basically. So if you are trying seriously to do the online challenges just do a private match because people acting like jerks make it hard to do sometimes.

When I met said persons brother he got attacked by wolves when I left, and I did not turn back to save him from the pack of 5. I doubt he got that happy ending on my game .

As said, trying to do some challenges online isn't a great idea in public, unless you don't mind having AA on easy (casual) settings so you can quickly fight back but some people will stop at nothing. I for one find a much bigger fun factor when playing in expert targeting mode, particularly hunts and hideouts, so when it comes to doing some (most) of those I go private with a buddy or two and we take them down that way, they last longer and are much more challenging. I've said this to my friends about other games, but I love the feeling of vulnerability and auto-aim makes any confrontation a doddle against AI, animal or human, so getting rid of that option makes challenges longer and more rewarding. Similarly I don't mind doing hideout after hideout on expert, with a friend anyway, because it never feels easy and I enjoy having a real shootout from cover where you can't stick your head out like a loon for to long.

Can't do that, you will lose the draw if you try.

I have noticed through the game that some of the showdowns you can't disarm certain people, no matter how perfect you do it you will lose the draw:ouch: I guess its because the cut scene has to be a certain way. They should have just made another cut scene where John would disarm them and then go in for a up close and personal kill! Speaking of which, has anyone hogtied someone and then pulled out the hunting knife and held the left trigger on the person while they are on the ground and then knifed? I did it for the first time yesterday about 30 mins before I finished the game and he bends down and slits the throat of the hogtied person! lol

Yeah, part of the reason I am not real fond of the Duelling system.

Haha, I have never seen that and will have to give it a try. Infact the only close quarters kill moves I have seen is the from behind throat slit and handgun in the stomach shot. Is there any others with different weapons?

Shotgun have one too.

I believe all the weapons do. I know on the repeater you can shoot them from under the chin up and out and if you get them close from behind you stick the barrel to the base of the skull and blow the back of their head up and out:tup: I was just like wow when I found out the knife deal when they are tied up on the ground. I was just messing around and got the knife out thinking I would be just be swiping around in the air with it and then he bent down and cut his throat! hahaha

With pistols you stick the gun in their chest and pull the trigger, so I, like breakpoint, believe all guns bar the sniper rifles have "execution" moves :)

I was hoping to play Red Dead in HD on my new PC monitor (supports 1080p)... but Red Dead looks like crap on it. Bad Company 2 looks fine on it, and that's 720p just like RDR is; yet RDR looks ghastly. It looks like it's been scaled up from 480p to 720 and running at 25Hz not 60 :grumpy:

Try putting a round in each knee with dead eye (not with a too powerful gun mind). Sets them up nicely for an up-close execution animation ;)

There was a list on the gamespot forums of unique features people have found; I found out a few cool things from the list such as being able to jump onto your horse directly from the first floor balcony etc.

I went back to find it and paste the info here, but couldn't find the thread... :(

Thats strange because I play only on my pc monitor and mine looks beyond great. I have my 360 hooked into the monitor via vga cord that is made for 360 and have everything set to 1080 and it actually looks better than my mates 54" 1080 plasma. I bought the monitor for playing my game on only, its a widescreen 22 inch and I got it for 110.00 bucks! Good deal for sure:tup:

Damn, I can't wait to hogtie somebody, drag them to some hunting grounds, pour bait on them, and then sit back and watch the show!

Just made it to Mexico, I must say thus far the story has been good but rather easy. Other than a glitch I have only had to try 1 mission more than once.

Also, if you want to know how much I hunt, I have a tad over $3,000 right now and haven't traded in the 3 gold bars I've found yet.

If you're not already on expert, change your settings to it and you'll get more challenge though I wouldn't call it flat out difficult.

I have my PS3 connected to my monitor via HDMI, and I'm using the default settings for both console and monitor - GT5P and MW2 run in 1080p and look amazing and BC2 runs in 720p and looks great, so it's not a monitor issue :grumpy:

There were issues surrounding the PS3 version of RDR and the resolution it renders at, you might be experiencing those somewhat? The 360 version is noticably sharper and contains more detail over the PS3 version (for some reason) but it's a fantastic looking game for me, it easily stands up against MW2 and the like.

I think I've discovered why - my monitor doesn't seem to do 720p too well, as it has a native resolution of 1080p. GTA4 runs at a native 720p, Red Dead does too and they both look a bit low-res and jerky (no idea why BC2 looks fine though). Turn off 720p/1080i and play GTA4 or Red Dead on a 1080p screen and you should see what I'm going on about.

Funny, I bought this particular monitor (BenQ E2220HD) because it had 1080p and HDMI input... yet I get better visuals for most of my PS3 games on my SD television, because they downscale to the TV's native resolution of 576i :grumpy: GT5P looks amazing on it though (being natively 1080p), so I will be enjoying GT5 in high-definition :D
