If it is like dirt rally.. you need to direct connect it to the PS4 with a USB cable.
Thanks for the reply! Will try this. However, for me on Dirt Rally it worked plugged directly into the console and on the TM website it says that this is possible in 4 as well. Guess they need to change that then!

I'm relishing stuff being cheaper on PC now I've got something very capable of actually playing top-level games. That's why I'm getting Dirt 4 for mine. Will see what it's like once I'm back from work.

So I've been driving the Alpine A110 and the Opel Kadett, and as a pair they seem to highlight the weirdness of the physics. The Kadett tends to understeer quite a bit, which I had simply attributed to the "grippy" gravel physics, but then I drove the A110, and the sum influence of its RR layout seems to be an uncanny ability to rotate, even on throttle at times when the front wheels should be unloaded. I was able to mitigate punitive oversteer with some tuning, but it still never understeers like the Kadett.

Yet both cars are damn fun to drive. :) "Simcade" or whatever one wants to call it, I can't say the physics are a disappointment. Overall the driving experience is very, very good.

Ditto, but I hope it's done better than Spain is in this game. Although I love the idea of a good tarmac rally, it's easily my least favorite in Dirt 4. The road width and tarmac quality never seems to change, so everything ends up feeling very samey and dull. Same goes for the lack of trackside scenery aside from a guardrail here and there. It almost reminds me of the stage editor in V-Rally from way back in the day.

FWIW I don't get this feeling as much from other locations. Loving Wales so far because of the progression from hilltops to deep, lush forests. But that seems to be more of an outlier.
I've only tried a couple stages in Spain so far. Wales is definitely my favorite location at this point. I did the current weekly event rally at Wales in the Kadett tonight, and the rally and car were fantastic. 👍 Australia seemed a little same-y at first, but it keeps surprising me with interesting scenery and devious corners. Michigan sometimes spits out fantastic stages, but other times it seems the most monotonous of them all (but remains fun to drive), unless Spain is worse. I also still have to check out Sweden.

The Kadett is a complete dog to drive, extremely understeery. The Alpine wants to kill you everytime you release the throttle. I did manage to dial most of that out with stiffer front springs though.

For me, the best example of how truly great D4 can be is the M3 in Dirtfish. That is just pure joy!

Very early impressions - loving the even more in-depth stuff in Rally mode....but the water splash effect on the windscreen, what have they done to that?! It looked excellent in Dirt Rally - anyone think it looks worse in this?

It was £44.99 for me on Steam. I thought I'd better snap it up before Brexit and the plummeting value of Sterling made the price go up even more, lol :)

Flying through the Austrailian outback with Nicky Grist in your ear so reminds me of the first PS1 Colin McRae game hehe.

Does anyone know if staffing certain engineers etc changes the base setup of the vehicles or anything else ? Read somewhere that it could effect this

Just ordered both DiRT Rally and DiRT 4. Looking forward to checking these out. Haven't played a proper rally game since CMR3 about 12 years ago and completely skipped the PS3 era Codemasters games.

I played quite a bit of CMR3 back in the day with a controller; probably as much as GT4 and some Nascar and F1 games at the time. For some reason my racing time on the PS3 was easily dominated by GT5 & 6, but so far the PS4 era racing games have become more appealing recently...

Two things that I've found I really like after a few hours playing.

1) Building a team is awesome. I bought an R2 Adam as soon as I could afford it and it's made doing races even more fun. Although some of the sponsor targets seem a tad off (mainly winning events with a severely undeveloped car).

2) DiRT Academy is a brilliant addition for talent less noobs like myself. I was worried at first they were going to be annoying challenges like GT licenses but was insanely pleased to see they're just a short lesson followed by a practice session with the only goal being to try whatever it is until you are comfortable.

On a side-note, is there anywhere that you can see stats like miles driven and events won?

Only with the cars you buy brand new. Just press R1 to see its stats on the car select screen.

Shame we cant erase the old stats on the used cars :/

Oh for those on PC with a Nvidia graphics card, make sure you download the latest drivers as they're specifically made for Dirt 4.

Whats the difference between driving in your team in career,or just choosing an already available car? I already did a few cups in career before i even got to the team building menus...

As a driver for a team, you get less payout but repairs and parts are gratis

Owning the team you get most all payout aside from staff fees and repairs etc

Been playing this on Sim mode with a DS4 just about non-stop since the PS4 finished downloading it, and I've got to say, this could be.. no, it *is* the best rally game since Richard Burns Rally, if not the best ever.

Pros:
  • The sheer amount of content: yes, it may only have 5 locations, but they're all very different and have at least a billion stages each. Car list is not bad either - you don't really feel the lack of proper WRC cars at all.
  • Marshalls at the start line will interact with you: if there's a delay, you'll actually need to wait a few moments. If they say to watch out for weather, there's likely a very foggy patch on the stage.
  • Hazards on the stage: animals crossing the road, cars littering the track, weather changes mid-stage etc. - and, much like the stages themselves, this is never the same twice.
  • Damage: can happen either through fault of your own or just as an occational mechanical error.
  • Rally news ticker thingy: gives the event so much more life. Yet to see spectators actually run onto the stage or start line sensors being manipulated by bad weather, but still!
  • Team building: seriously. This is Motorsport Manager levels of detail.
  • Nicky Grist as your co-driver: much nostalgia can be had, particularly if you happen to own the Focus as well.
  • The car handles just how you'd expect on the different surfaces.
Cons:
  • Unable to select tyre compound: this is the one major issue I have with this. There's a certain satisfaction in Richard Burns Rally to be at the service park before a stage combo consisting of one dry and one wet stage, taking a gamble on tyre choice either way and see it pay off.

TL;DR the very best of Evolution Studios' WRC games and Richard Burns Rally paired with team management from Motorsport Manager and an infinite number of stages.

The King may be dead, but the new King might just be better in pretty much every single way.

Rally Cross was the biggest draw for me for Dirt 4 - and im glad theyve added little bits to it! The collision noises sound really beefy now, very realistic which is a big improvement...the races are tense and chaotic, and its some of the best AI racing on any console imo.

Also,in one of my first races at Lyddon Hill,an AI car retired with a blown engine in the middle of the track,i narrowly avoided him but his teammate went straight into him, haha - i LOVE little details like this, makes it so much more life like and its something Pcars and Assetto badly misses.

Thank you for that, I was going to say the graphics on the PC are poorly optimized but I'm guessing the drivers fix that somewhat.

Glad to see so many are enjoying the game so far. I cant get enough, even sneaking a race or a few runs on a challenge before work lol.

Also if your looking for more players to add to your list to compare times or a guy who seldom races online but always try to keep it clean, send me a psn friend request. slatanic1

What are the red question marks that come up on the on-screen pace notes? Im sure Nicky muttered something but couldnt make it out...

Also, it would be nice if we could replay a community event with the times just not counting after the first run
At the end of each stage, on the menu with the "rate the stage" option, there's a option to save the stage. You should be able to then try it offline.

Guys can anyone tell me if the replays are proper and full, without cutting back to car camera views etc..I nearly bought it but cancelled because of this, I hated it in dirt rally aswell, you just get to a good bit of the replay action then it would cut to stupid onboard camera views..and you miss it all.

Anybody know, please.

Not sure yet i have only watched a bit of replay. I must say though i dont really understand this point of view, that a few have stated. I love watching good replays as much as anyone but have never changed my mind on a racing game because of the lack of or not to my preferance style of replays.

My little privateer Pug. Feels good, sounds good. Some b-hole puckering now and again as well

@rik, far as I can tell it does not stay on "television" broadcast style view. I think the heli view will though have to double check

Can confirm, the Nvida drivers greatly improve the graphic optimization on the PC, it no longer looks fuzzy.

I just checked and the tv is a no go but the chopper view can be permanent

You oughta grab a copy regardless , it's good fun 👍

I may have killed a group of spectators during today's Group B event.

I just tried it and it does indeed work, I wish I would have known that when I ran the Mini stage as it was a fun one.
