Swap discs, mod chip?

yeah a lot of times crossing can cause some interference. i have seen instances where critical wires were crossed and nothing worked at all, then they were sorted out and everything worked fine. the insulation in kynar is next to nothing and its best to run short and straight wires. and avoid crossing over any chips. on the dms site, on the FAQ section i belive it is.. there are a few tips on installation which should be noted, and it explains some wires which should not be crossed, etc. later-
 
Just recieved my GT4 Japanese V. this morning. Well I guess it is true that you can't use a slide card to play this import game. what bummer.

Well I'll buy a US ver. then swap japanese disk into the U.S case and return it back and get another GT4, US version. 👍 Saying that hey you guys gave me the wrong disk.
 
ewitspaul, if this is your first time doing some soder work, it might not be a good idea to try with a PS2. i've already lost one after having some soder fall under the chips and some other stuff was poorly done by my roomate. my other roomate that knows a lot about sodering but after looking at the pics on where to soder, he told me i better pay a guy to do this that knows how to soder PS2s. he told me that the points where to soder is very small and very close to heat sensitive components. i too was hoping that the swap disk would work, but after reading this thread, modchips are the way to go. can anybody really confirm that hd loader advance and work with dvd9s? i thought there weren't. i'm probably just going to wait two more months to the US version. i've waited this long and two more months doesn't seem to be a big deal.
 
I got GT4 from Play-Asia today, but sadly my modchip wont arrive untill next week. I tried with swap-magic and it said "Insert bigger TOC cd", so if I burn the swap-magic cd on a DVD9, wouldn't it work?

Hmm, are you sure you're not using the wrong swap magic disc? (i.e. the one for CDs?)

If not it makes me wonder if it would work if I put Champions of Norrath in there and then change. I think that game might be bigger than GT4.
 
I am sure i used the dvd one, first it said "Disc is not PS2 compatible" or something like that, then when i took the GT4 dvd out it said "Insert bigger TOC disc"

MGS2 Substance (dual layer) original disk does not boot when I use the swap magic disks. I say it does not work untill proven otherwise.

I want to know if i order GT4 can i play the game on my ps2 I have a sniper chip which is 2 years old and my ps2 is 2 years old too. I can play all type of ps2 games (PAL and NTSC). So is it possible that i can play GT4 on my ps2 ????

I agree, especially with the comment of swapmagic themselves, but I was wondering because I had never seen the Swap Magic disc ask for a bigger TOC file before. This system normally asksyou to insert an original disc with a bigger TOC file than the import or copy you want to play, and then you insert thatcopy after. But I do consider the chances unlikely, just wondered about it.
 
Hmm so no swap magic, bummer just ordered a fliptop with swap magic 3.3. I wanted to order GT4, guess ill have to wait. There are different Swap Magic Versions, which one have you used to test if GT4 works ?? I have a guy saying he uses Swapmagic 3.3 and that it works.

did you try a google search for specs of your chip ? ...but it is likely that if your chip plays backups, and original imports it will do dvd 9's. do you own and dvd 9's ? even if it's not an import, just run your chip in import ps2 mode or whatever it is for you, with a dvd9 in and if it works for that then it works for gt4. dont hold me to it, but it should 👍 later-

Anyone using a Messiah 2 mod chip? Or does anyone know if that'll work? I don't think I have any DVD9 games so I don't know if mine can play them. My PS2's a 35001 model.

which chip are you doing ? good luck witht he rest of it !! remember.. clean your tip every time you solder something, so there is no extra solder that can splash anywhere. if soldering on chip legs, try putting a razor blade between the leg you are soldering and the next, so you don't bridge the chip legs, and scrape and flux (very tiny bit and very carefully) the points on the board !! and also.. don't leave your iron ont he board for tooooo long :D, enjoy !

I am doing a Matrix Infinity into a V7 PS2. 18 wires total, I just finished the four hardest ones (the ones that go right to the pins on a chip.) The soldering itself isn't that bad, it's making these tiny little jumper wires and trying to get them to the exact length that I want them (as short as possible.) The wire I am using is so fine that I can only strip it with my teeth. :dopey:



I need to break for lunch now, but it won't be much longer at this point...

Do you have a Japanese PS2 or an American PS2?
 
for everyone who uses swap magic, i have confirmed that you can use their new disc which is Swap Magic 3 (or v. 3.3) and it is compatible with DVD9 so you can play GT4, i'm ordering mine now
 
Ok man sounds good, but need proof i can get GT4 here for 55 euro within a day but the time to decide if i want it is limited :S:S (auction)

...are you sure? I got an e-mail from them saying that it won't work. If you want I can foward it to you so you can take a look yourself. I'd have to see some proof if your version of SM3.3 works with GT4.
