The Australian guy and his (stolen) retail copy of GT5. Legit or fake ?

If it is NOT real, hats off to the person as it looks very convincing.

I can't wait to see how you feel when you pop open your GT5 case and have that disc stare you in the face

even if it is a legit copy of the game it could be locked down so that it only works with a version of the firmware that has not been released yet.

It's Sony's marketing ploy IMO. I'll even bet that they're the ones responsible for leaking that disk.

Doubt it. Although it has gained a lot of expsoure but no one at Sony is smart enough to pull off something like that

Hmm, I don't want to believe it, but I have to admit, it looks pretty legit.

EDIT: Sorry I didn't realize it was by an Australian, no it's definitely fake.

Sounds like someone wants to start up some Aussie/N.Z. rivalry. :sly:

i think he works at this factory. or has high authority in the factory. so he can just take the games he wants. because you guys are saying that he has a lot of big games before they are released

Surely if it requires certain firmware to run, then it will be on the disc. In other words, you disconnect the PS3 from the internet, put the disc in, install the firmware, and enjoy. :)

@ploopsy
What happens then to those gamers that don't have internet access?
How many people that own a PS3 don't have internet access? Even if the console is not connected to the internet they can download the firmware on any computer, put it on a usb pen drive and then install it on the PS3. Voila :)

Some games have the firmware on the disc. So it updates that way. Has been for a long time AFAIK

I love my ps3 and I got a g25 for it but I don't have broadband. I live about 2000 feet from a cAble line so I can't physically get highspeed Internet. Man dial up sucks... I'm posting this from m y iPhone

I hope it's the old 3.41SDK version and it get's "leaked" in other ways too. Suck Fony.

If the firmware is on the disk then if one were to steal the disk it wouldn't be an issue because the firmware would be on the disk. The only way that theory would work is if there is a second install disk that the thief failed to realize and thus, only stole the play disk.

It's a neat story, true or not, but until he starts posting info on the game that's all it is. With the release date nearing, weeks away if my guess is right, I don't see it as a big issue one way or the other.

edit: I see the point you're making now. I'm aware of this but my point is if the firmware issue was going to prevent him from being able to play the game that must mean the firmware isn't on the disc but download only. That was the point of my post.

Exactly why? Aside from the pushed back release date on GT5 which, if my theory is correct, is Kaz's fault more than anything. I say fault but if he felt there were issues that needed addressing before release and they still get it out for the holiday season I have no real complaints. Has Sony knackered up anything else that I am unaware of?

Although I am a little perturbed at the lack of information they have been giving us lately. To be fair to them, however, most of us at GTplanet follow the GT5 newsreal day to day and as much as I would like some new story to read every day, that just isn't feasible.

Suck Fony.

I didn't think this thread could get any lower, but you managed too take it there.

Mods, seriously, lock this thread. It is beyond embarrassing at this point.

I am sure he means he wants it to have an older firmware so it can be pirated onto JB PS3s.

The thread is valid (that disc is a big deal) it's just been ruined by spam by people who have nothing relevent to post.

The news thread in particular is getting spammed and needs some intervention tho.

Exactly I agree. I don't want to see this thread put down, but just look at it like a injured cute animal that isn't going too survive. You would put it out of its misery for its own good so it doesn't suffer anymore.

So you and others deserve the game for free.. why?

I've only just noticed Australia is spelt wrong in the thread title

Even the orriginal post the pic came from looks like it's staged.
First a trollbait statement about it not being pressed currently, followed by a few vauge hints, followed quickly with a third party ”he's got street cred“ supporting post. Then all goes sillent. Probablly because he goes off to photoshop it.
Naturrally, the next day, when he has his fake ready, there is another guick exchange, where his supporting poster just happens to be present. I guess he waits by the comp all night just watching the thread, for moral support or something.
The guy waits a few hours to see if anyone is buying it, and when it appears not, he posts the pic, along with some bs explaining why that's all he has for proof, promises more later, and promptly dissapears when the whole thing goes viral, and gets out of his control.
Nevermind all of the other flaws mentioned, the absolute biggest flaw is that he used the prduct number for an old game, and not 98114 (gt5), or 98272 (gt5CE), has listed by sony (got those from their sonystyle site.).
Regardless of what the real disk looks like, that alone shows his is not a working copy.
