The level up/credit/xp system in this game is broken

I am at level 22 of Spec A. I did not pass the "Like the wind" and "Championship". So, I repeatedly did them until I passed them. I don't think I need to grind to next level because my skills suck. LOL

It definitely is inefficient. It forces you to do races over countless times just to level up. It feels like a chore and not something you want to do to level up. I did the Indy race on Like the Wind at least 50 times. and same with the Indy race in the American Championship.

JMO but the level up system in GT5 is a pretty obvious ploy to stall the player through the game, in an effort to compensate for the lack of events.

Otherwise it would be over very quick.

A very disappointing, subpar, and uncharacterestic method to be employed by PD.

Didn't think I would ever see something like that in a GT game.

Lots and lots of relevant points

Not a lot to disagree with there, Arrow 👍.

I am a huge GT fan and have been since the release of GT1. Until I defected to playing LOTRO for the past 18 months I played GT pretty much most nights to some extent, so Lord knows how many thousands of hours that is . Mostly that would be working on tuning cars, the aspect of the game that appeals to me even more than the actual driving, so much so that I taught myself the principles of setting cars up for real (I'm an engineer, what can I say :O).

So, what people are referring to as 'grinding' doesn't bother me in the slightest other than being locked out of accessing events higher up the tree for longer than I need to be.

As Mr. Serious has been trying to get across earlier (and not really being understood by some I felt), all the GT games have had constraints on 'progress'. But those constraints did not feel like purely arbitrary 'chains' like the XP/level system does. Having to have the right licence, the right car and completing the earlier race series worked fine without being an aggrivation.

PD/SONY have shot themselves in the foot with this release, partially because they tried to cram too much into the game that ate into their 'creative resources' budget and meant that vital things got scant attention over eye-candy. The same thing trying to have too many 'forms' of motorsport in the game. It's called Gran Turismo after all. Karting, Rally, F1 stylee and frikking NASCAR events are not GT (which is, as you can gather, my favourite form of motorsport :D).

My only hope that as this is the first DLC-able GT, we shall see things get fixed over time that should really have been done up front.

Oh, one real peevy rant ... ONE Aston Martin, four Lotuses, two TVR's and 15 billion NASCAR/Skyline/etc variants! Are you having a laugh :faints:

The problem with the xp-system is that it only tells how much free time you've got and not your skill-level.

You can be an exellent driver but still won't be able to enjoy the 24h Nurburing-race.

I don't care about Screen tearing, shadows, standard cars, online, track # of anything except for this broken credit mess.

A spec has boring events so I want to be able to do arcade so i can choose my car and track etc. But no matter how much time i put into the game i won't make money doing arcade so I have to do the boring grinding of A spec and the even longer b spec.

Just make arcade pay rewards, sell cars for full price, remove the "500,000 credits for repair chassis regidity".
I won't complain about anything else.
I'm not a troller or a complainer.
This is an important thread and
unlike other things this is actually
game breaking

Yes, prices are really absurd. especially when compared with the earnings ...

Playing through the same events over and over and over again is a HUGE problem, I'm not tired of the gameplay, I'm tired of how PD wants me to play..

I must agree, on level 20 in B spec and running the same race over and over to just make it to level 21 :(

yep, when I buyed GT5 i hoped the brand new events will be like real racing, with some intro movies showing cars and tracks Im going to race on, people in pits, everything is moving, alot of motion and stuff going on... but what I can see for now is just - enter race then - race - exit race - enter race - exit race - everything is DEAD... etc. not so fun at all, but the game is just pure awesome.. graphics and physics are pure awesomeness, I love to drive my favorites and play with my friends online and offline.

PS- Im level 26, in the end of the game in endurance races there are actually some movement and stuff going on on the track and spectetors with tents etc.. but it's too late for me since I finished game allmost 80%..

Just did the 4 hour Roadster event in A-spec. Horrible, horrible, horrible, Tsukuba is the worst track and the car couldn't even drift. And when the rae ended, I didn't even get enough xp to get to level 27! What a waste, at least it's done now, and I'll never have to race that terrible event again. Expect in B-spec :ouch:

Hmm.. So any convertable can be used in this race?

I've been stuck at lvl 22 for almost 2 weeks and i have no motivation to go any further. I refuse to do 7-10 laps against dead A.I. for little to no credit/xp. Its boring, period! I'll just wait for an update that allows us to download completed game saves (hopefully) or an online credit system.

Whats the point of doing license tests if xp are whats separates the tiers of races? Are they going to be used to separate online racing? if so then they're way too easy, the GT5:P licenses/test were a lot better. The special events earn you way more xp/credit than racing and golding some of them actually requires skill; so whats the incentive to race if you're receiving 1/4 of the xp/credit for doing/spending 6-7x the amount of work/time? It feels like you're being punished for leveling up too fast.

/end rant

I just did the first endurance race in B-Spec and was shocked at the rewards: 27,300 cr and about 70000 exp and a no good car.
Ok, so i did it once just to finish the game, but why should i ever bother with this race again when i can easily do races like schwarzwald B for the same amount of time and experience but ten times the money???
B-Spec Races take double the amount of time and usually get you half the money - where's the logic in that?
This is just deeply flawed in my opinion. 👎

I hardly play GT5, probably put in about 20hours since I bought it (bought a PS3 just for GT5 as well).

I can't bring myself to play for 100hours to not even get anywhere near owning all the cars or maximum level. Especially when I cannot back up my save and it's 100% completely and utterly lost if anything happens to the PS3.

If I could back up the save, I could probably stomach the grind, but I certainly would never reach 100% like in previous GT's.

The other thing that really grates is the paint system and the limitations you have to endure for no valid reason other than making you grind even more. You can't even preview the paint effect before you use it for the first and only time.

I'm level 26 and it's almost like a chore, it really is. I can't sell these completely useless cars they give me, that have nothing to do with the event I just finished. I love racing, I just don't love doing the same event like 30+ times, I can't even do the classic race car event because any classic race car is like 10 million or even 20 million, and when I buy one from the used car lot, I get smoked. This game is pretty flawed in some aspects, I really hope Kaz does something about this.

Then GT5 isnt for you, go play WOW or something
Or they could just fix the damn problem so it isn't an issue with GT5 in the first place. 👍
Because, you know, being dismissive towards people expressing opinions about something that is obviously a problem with the game really makes you look as clever as you were clearly attempting to look.

But seriously, in what way does that statement make any sense to you anyways? People have a problem with the poorly done grind-happy level system in GT5. So naturally, your witty response is to tell them to shut up and go play an MMO. What. So, what, they can do something they don't enjoy doing (namely, grinding) in some other game? I hope I'm not the only one who sees that the train of thought must have derailed somewhere.

Because you clearly prefer to think of the game as a grind, instead of racing and enjoying the racing.

Not that hard was it 👍

there is no point in arguing, having to do the same race 20+ times is GRINDING. I used to be a gt5 fanboy honestly, this game is meh. great game but damn somethings need to be fixed, and I'm not going to blindly tell people that they're wrong, or to go play another game when it is so clearly evident that this game has problems.
