That's got to be the worst livery I have ever seen. Then again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Here's a more pleasing design:tup::

That's one sexy mclaren you got there .

Imagine that:

No liveries for me, just a silver or black McLaren F1.

Finally, PD and the best supercar collide.

If we only get the F1, I am still going to put a wing on it through GT Auto and call it the LM.:p

Yeah! And then we can fit Fiat 500 rims and call it the LM500 :)

Yeah! And then we can fit Fiat 500 rims and call it the LM500 :)

Then reduce weight and call it "LM500 Superleggera" to annoy some people on this forum ;)

Back on topic, the roadcar will be a beast to drive, really, really looking forward to it! And don't even get me started on the LM! :)

Here's some great reading on the GTR short tail

-> ...
Not to be picky but thats actually the non-running 'Clinic Model' used for the first official presentation of the F1 in Monaco way back when. This was built before any of the prototypes (XP1-5) were.
^ Yes, I'm aware of that. But just like other concept cars that were featured in past GT series, some of them were a non-running models. ;)

What about Caparo T1?
They were designed and engineered by the same team who built Mclaren F1.

Sorry off topic. Should I make a new thread?
^ Um...no. :indiff:

couldn't find a link so here's what i have on my hard drive. it's pretty much a copy paste from the original.

To this day, the NSX is still a car that is near and dear to my heart. I put 75,000 Km on my NSX over the course of six or seven years.
^ Wow! I didn't know that the legendary NSX was an inspiration on the creation of the Mac F1!

After all of this... watch them have only the one you see there and the one from GT4... I love the Mclaren F1 road car... but I fail to see how this is a BIG deal. I'm more impressed on how GT5 will turn out being as a final product. The look and feel of the menus, races and everything. But, its nice to see the Mclaren f1 road car finally in GT.

Seeing as Polyphony seem to be up to date on the newest cars (ZR1, 458, Spec-V, SLS), I'm a bit positive the MP4-12C should make its way in.

Well i cant speak for everyone but for me the mclaren was and still is the definitive hyper car, but purely for perfection and personally captured my imagination.

The top speed of 240 and stunning looks made it a poster on my wall for over a decade and started my love for fast cars. Its not hard to see that the car was decades ahead of its time, gorgeous looks still being copied today from a time when the only things being made were dire.

Often me a choice between the mac and a veyron and the keys to the over sized passat will never be touched.

I'm sure Ron will have had a word to make sure it's in!

Can't wait to drive this beauty:

Yeah there's no proof that the F1 LM will be in the game.

All we know is they have the original roadcar in. Oh and GT4/PSP has the FINA GTR from 1997.

Would be quite nice to collect all three road versions.

I dont understand why people would be concerned about the '90's tyres and brakes', its unlikely that any still being driven would still have the same factory fit parts, every car on the road has the same options of ultra grippy modern tyres even if its a old montego. Infact tye rubber has a use by date, normally around 5 years so any mclaren on the road will probably have the same boots on it as a supercar leaving the factory today.

Same with brakes, hit the pedal hard enough and they lock asides from the fade characteristics of newer materials the old brakes are still just as effective, and presuming the macca has had a pads and disc change in the past decade then it could also be running the exact same third party brakes as any other super car.

Well you have to consider that 99% of these cars still have only their delivery miles, or least, not very much more. They hardly get driven and when they do, it's only for a short while. (In fact, one recently set on fire because it had been left sitting for six months and probably not properly maintained). I'd wager also that there aren't many tire and brake manufacturers that make the exact size the F1 requires, and as such most will have their original tires and brakes.

As far as I know, there aren't very many F1's that have been modified by their owners to make them better. The one that sticks in my mind is this one:

flemkealloys.jpg

He has spent a fair amount of time and money on improving his F1 and if you search 'Pistonheads' and 'Flemke' on Google (or another search engine of your choice, you'll find several threads about his experiences).

In fact here is a track test of his car by renowned car magazine EVO at Bedford Autodrome here in the UK.

http://www.evo.co.uk/videos/trackdayvideos/204326/mclaren_f1.html

As you can see from the text under the video, the owner has shared his view on the car:

"May I remind you that the chassis stinks, it has no downforce, and the brakes don't work. But it's got a good engine!"

So I think that clears that up.

The car weighs barely 1.1t a tad lighter then a new ford fiesta, with NA power delivery a drag ratio of .32 and a pretty high tech chassis, even now i cant understand the thinking of modern cars being able to run rings around it.

Times change, technologies get better, it's simple evolution.

Plus you've got take into account that the F1 was never supposed to be track car to begin It has soft suspension so it rolls a fair bit in corners.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7Azl-drqMk

You'll see at the end of this video really, and it's a pretty good watch either way. 👍

I have just been reading through the tech data and asides from missing a few of the electronic control systems (which are banned in just about all forms of motor racing anyway) there is pretty much no difference between the mclarens set up of suspensions and size of wheels/tyres then most supercars, in fact its weight distribution would make it more stable then most modern heavier machines.

See above really for the suspension and so on.

Actually, there are quite a few McLarens pushing well over delivery miles. However, many of them are sent back to McLaren for service where they essentially become like new again.

As for modifications, the only official one is the LM Kit offered by McLaren themselves. A few folks do have it though.

Not very many though.

Out of the 64 original road cars, I can't imagine too many of them have more than 1000 miles. If it was over 10 I'd be very, very surprised.

There are quite a few with the High Downforce Kit (or as you said, the LM kit) applied, but again, I'd be very surprised if many of them got driven too much.

.

By now if any still had there original tyres then they would be dangerous to drive as the tyres life is finite (5-7 years is normally the max) and should always be printed on the sidewall, expect to see this brought in for MOT's within the next couple of years and the sizes themselves aren't that special anymore, the speed rating may be be trickier but i would be very very surprised if the tyres you could get today for the mclaren would be worse then any other supercars as they come from the same makers and made from the same compound.

Same with brakes, its not the shape its the compound, you can have discs made to order from anything you want, there's a company 3 miles from me who will make you a set of ceramics if you can provide the size or a template again the pad manufactures will still make to order and will simply apply there most modern compound just like any other car made.

As for the other points you made then fair enough i cant debate on those, except that the car was designed to be downforce neutral, it does however use assisted ground effect this made the motoring news back when the car was released and produced many articles barely any more intelligent the 'mclaren f1 has no downforce lol lol !!!! lol' something that has sadly stuck with the car and is remembered more as a design flaw then the feature it actually was.

Its also worth noting that even the downforce neutral model doesnt perform to badly at all on the grip tests.

(shamelessly stolen from wiki)

Cornering

* When performing the lateral acceleration exercise around a 200 ft (61 m) skidpad (for testing some aspects of cornering performance), the standard F1 machine achieves 0.86 G; compared to 0.99 G for the Saleen S7, 1.01 G for the Ferrari Enzo and 1.15 G for the Koenigsegg CC (all post year 2000 vehicles).[14][27]
* The standard F1 can perform the slalom exercise at 64.5 miles per hour (103.8 km/h).[27]

Braking

* The standard McLaren F1 performs the 60-0 mph brake exercise in 2.8 seconds, coming to a full halt in 127 ft (39 m), compared to 125 ft (38 m) for the Saleen S7, 109 ft (33 m) for the Ferrari Enzo and 105 ft (32 m) for the Koenigsegg CC (all post year 2000 vehicles)

If anyone has any figures for the winged versions i would be very grateful.

-> Hmm, is it me or there is no love for the M6 GT (aka. the 1st McLaren super car):

I can't wait for some gameplay of the F1. Even though I don't really use the interior view, I want to see the cock-pit in all its glory.

I remember when the F1 was reviewed (not sure by whom), but then engine was so loud you couldn't hear the man talk. Cannot wait to hear it! PD seems to have improved the sound.

Were you thinking of Tiff when he drove the LM? The cockpit in the F1 is just fine for talking; it was supposed to be.

in the picture of the gameplay w/the McLaren F1 in it, it looks like the GT version with that ugly ass roof scoop.that would suck if just like Forza 3, the only McLaren F1 road car is the GT edition. It may be fun to drive but it's so much uglier in my opinion but I think if they're going to have the MP4-12C, they'll probably have all edition of the F1. I like the F1 LM best for the game bcuz it's faster but in real life I'd rather have the standard F1 bcuz of the interior. the F1 LM's interior is too stripped down for me to enjoy
