The real reason why Top Gear was pulled from Discovery...

Something's not right. Looking at the search I did, almost every single discovery-owned channel is airing Top Gear. And last night all they were showing was stuff about China. If it aired last night (and Vipfreak's reaction confirms that it did) can anyone tell me what time it aired if you live in eastern time?

Here's a news flash, they can't really go off road, especially the RWD model he tested (Mud puddles are hardly "off road")... Loving ones country is great (I love the US)... However, loving it to the point of being blinded to anything else is moronic...

Yes, a lot of stupid Americans think such things, just like a lot of stupid British people also think such things... I do not generalise to such a degree because it just makes you seem ignorant...

I'm sorry you hate the original show so much, but a lot of us here love it, myself included... An Americanized version could be a good thing, but if History teaches us anything, it will fail miserably, or just be unwatcheable to those that loved the original...

;)

Probably they will **** it up by putting any rapper in there to either talk about cars or present the show.

Top Gear will be showing on Thursday night on Discovery Channel. At 7, 8, 10, and 11 they'll be showing reruns. The 9 PM episode is the new American one. :)

I think I'll rename this thread "Top Gear USA" after Thursday night.

EDIT: The new episode wasn't the new American Top Gear, but the last of the repackaged British version.

I caught the Toyota pickup episode on the Discovery Science channel. I put that on DVD when it reran the next day. It was crazy that the Lamborghini Murcielago couldn't shake the EVO FQ300(or 400?). I hope the Top Gear episodes do continue to show on the regular Discovery channel on a weekly basis after tonight.

Genrally American's might like it more because it won't feature Brit humour, I doubt we'll find it very funny. Clarkson said TopGear is shown all over the world, Germany, Russia, Japan, but the only place they had to re-edit the show and re-do some scenes was for the US.

There are tons of Americans that appreciate Top Gear's British humor. There are tons of Americans that enjoy British humor in general (Monty Python, a host of shows on PBS). This is just a classic case of a network underestimating and pandering to their audience.

Once again, we wind up with entertainment so bland the ad breaks are more interesting. Coincidence? I think not. ;)

I don't think it's aired yet.

Unless you meant the chopped up edited version they used to show. That was alright. Nothing special, though.

I wasn't sure from his last sentence if he was saying the new American one was rubbish or not.

You can be bvest of TopGear dvd's here, basically feature's the highlights of the season.

"American Top Gear", please god, no! I love the UK Top Gear because of the British humor, and the variety of autos that I dont get to experience in the states. I just buy the dvds of Top Gear and Fifth Gear, I picked up a NTSC/PAL dvd player cheap somewhere, and watch the real Stig whenever I want.

Also, if you live in the US and love the show, subscribe to Top Gear magazine. I get it here for about $175US, a year, well worth every penny! Much more content per issue that most american mags.

Still no updates? I'm looking forward to this, and the Discovery website is useless...

175 a year? God damn, TG can suck it for that much.

That is steep, that's twice what we pay for each issue month by month, let a lone as a subscriber . I imagine that that's a typo and not the actual price.

Hahahaha  I would really love to see the americanised top gear, im sure it would be really entertaining, no doubt jeremy will have plenty to say about this!

This doesn't really have to do with Top Gear on Discovery Channel, but I did a search for "Top Gear" and this is the most recent thread on the subject so here goes...

I've been catching up with last year's episodes on BBC America and BBC VOD. So far I'm up to episode #73 (Series 8:7 - 23 July 2006).

As always, the "challenges" have been the most entertaining again so far. I especially liked the convertible people carrier, amphibious vehicle conversions, and the absolutely brilliant comedy sketch that was "caravan holiday in Dorset".

Any way, I doubt I'll have time to watch all the remaining episodes, so from Episode #74 through the last episode, #82, which of them would you recommend the most?

Thanks.

Actually this is the most recent thread about Top Gear, and the one used for general Top Gear chat.

Thanks! Didn't see that... maybe because the title has Top Gear combined as one word?

I'll copy my post there, thanks again!
