Some very neat weather has come through in the last week. Lots of sunshine with unstable afternoon air...spring! It's been flirting with 60 the last couple days. Today was very odd. There were lots of very menacing clouds that failed to impress in terms of rain or wind. On the way home, I spotted some very cool clouds, then ran outside to snap some pictures:

This frontal cloud was horse-shoe shaped, wrapping around the sky, leaving the sun to shine in the middle. Very strange indeed, as the main front had passed a couple hours before. It also stayed stationary for a while, then fizzled out. I'm guessing that strong westerly upper-level winds poured some cool air over the Olympic Mountains, which met the warmer air coming up from the south and created a mini-front. I've never seen anything like it!

Look just above the two tall trees, and you'll see some undulatus clouds.
Very rare around here, as the local topography usually kills the downdrafts and shears that form these wavy clouds. All in all, some very neat stuff happening on the leeward side of the Olympics today

Last week, I came home, opened my window, and saw one of the most breathtaking things I've ever seen: a full rainbow. Sadly, the middle part fizzled before I could take a picture, but here are the two ends:
