Has anyone else(In the UK) heard about the police now issuing 3 penalty points and a £60 fine if you're caught driving around with snow on your roof?. I don't know if it's true but I was told that my local radio station annouced it earlier and i've seen it on a few other forums myself.
And what happens to the snow on your roof after it's melted a bit, and you brake?

Before you set off, you should knock the snow off the car, not just scrape a bit of the window so you can see out.

That's a dumb law. The best I can think of is that it'll all come crashing down on your windshield if you somehow are able to come to a sudden stop. That happened to my buddy once. Probably not the best scenario.

I'm already bored of front wheel drive in the snow. My snow tires also apparently have tons of grip most of the time. That's pretty sweet.

You know how some people talked about the now then becoming an icy layer with more snow on top? On the interstate, at 70mph, those can come flying up in the air to land on or near whichever unfortunate soul is behind you. Trust me, it isn't fun to be the guy in back watching this flipping sheet of ice in the air ahead of you.

Not sure if that is why they are ticketing people, but it seems the most likely reason. That or having it slide on to your windshield can create a vision hazard. I dunno.

Personally, I have never understood why someone who has to do interstate driving wants to have the extra drag on their car. Do both of us a favor and knock that crap off.

It's not as bad as the guys that clean off just a small porthole for them to see out the front with. They can't see you beside them and then when they get up to speed they create their own zone of white out conditions 50 feet behind their car.

Here in Surrey we are just getting our first proper dosing of snow (we live in the western side of Surrey where we haven't had any up untill now) looks like no school tommorow. If that is the case i will give a more detailed report then since I'm on my iPod at the moment.

It's now December in Colorado and The only snow I have seen is just enough to cover the grass....srsly?!

Here in NY today all I had to deal with was some heavy rain. The gusts were powerful enough that the wind was shaking my car. I don't blame the wind, I don't really like my car.

It's 2 degrees Celsius in Grand Falls-Windsor, the closest (15 km out) weather station to here. So it's 2 degrees here in Botwood. That's 35 degrees Fahrenheit to you Americans/Imperial users.

And it isn't snowing, just raining. We did get a cover of snow one morning and had a snowstorm yesterday night but the snow went away pretty fast.

It looks like we are going to have a white Christmas this year. Luckily I already installed my winter tires.

It's more than likely true, instead of going after the idiots driving like muppets in this weather they go after people who forgot to scrape their roof off for an easy £60. 3 penalty points is ridiculous too, I'd love to see how many people are going to court over it instead of taking the points.

That is not a bad law at all. Especially when you are doing 45 -50 on snowy highway, and some idiot didn't take the extra 5 minutes to clear off the roof. It could going flying on or worse, through the windshield. I always clear my car off completely of snow and ice because I don't want to cause or be in accident just because I was lazy.

Now for the weather report... Chance of Flurries today and tomorrow, but tomorrow night, the snow rolls into the Circle City for most of Saturday.

So this is what the UK and Ireland currently looks like from space:

It went down to -13C last night, and apparently it's going to rain tomorrow.

Hi guys , it snowed here in Surrey wednesday-thursday night, we have had today and yesterday off school, here is a video of me testing out my go kart in the snow this afternoon, it was really icy (its been nearly 2 days since it snowed).

Turn up the volume and enjoy.

One of the cons of being a Postie: Me leaving the house at 6AM and it being -8°C. :(

Its been below zero constantly for about 2 weeks now and its been bitterly cold at night down in the -10 to -15's which is probably the coldest its ever been. Its also becoming apparent to me that UK houses arnt really built for such extreme prolonged weather and regardless of how well insulated they are it still doesn't feel that cozy.

On another note, this was pretty funny to hear on the news... :sly: Silly people!

Robin.

About three inches of snow on the ground. Good thing too, as it ended my wife's crazy idea to go to Cincinnati tonight just for the zoo's Christmas lights show. Now it is a GT5 day...as soon as the Kentucky game is over.

-14 :nervous: I just checked the forecast for Glasgow and it has changed since I checked it earlier... it now says heavy snow tomorrow, and persistent cold... it could be a long winter!

Here it's about 30 and the lake effect has started. So we have 4 or 5 inches of snow on the ground. And apparently snow plows take the day off on Sunday?

Heavy snow as promised this morning... more misery for commuters :indiff: Luckily, I ain't a commuter and I'm loving it :dopey:

Hehe!
Waited for half an hour at the bus stop for the school bus this morning... It didn't come. I'm now sitting in my room playing GT.
Apparently hardly anyone in school and there is no work getting done.
Also, I've heard that the M8 is at a standstill...
:p

EDIT: Just read metcheck.com's forecast.
Due for -15 tonight... If that is true I am buying a one way ticket to go live with my Uncle and Auntie in Aus-land :D

Liverpool still has had virtually no snow (see green bit of UK in weigert's post above) and any we did have melted over the weekend in the rain. Unfortunately that has now frozen into sheet ice everywhere and it's very foggy! Not bad enough to excuse getting into work though :(

The ice was terrible here too, esp. on Friday. I almost went A over T about three times - once out on the balcony at work, 8 storeys up :scared:

The snow here is beautiful, but very badly timed... the last time it snowed this heavily, it was pretty much overnight and hence people woke up to it, and were able to either stay at home or go to work without the car. This morning, it only really started snowing properly at about 9 am, and so now there will be a whole lot of people stuck at work instead of being stuck at home... And, the snow is as heavy as it was the last time, but this time it is falling on already icy surfaces... yay for living within walking distance of work!

I nearly went A over T in Princes Street about 5 times on Friday... Then I finally did
