Zanardi's Italian, and was an ex-F1 driver, so should be listed in the category of F1 drivers who went to the States and did well in ChampCar, rather than as being someone who went from ChampCar to F1. When he went to F1 for the second time, he joined a team at the base of the downturn.
Same goes for Montoya, who was sent over to the States to gain experience, and look at what he's doing in F1 now.
When Mansell went over, he went to the best team with the best car, whereas Andretti went to McLaren, who were in deep trouble at the time. Also, Andretti wasn't prepared to live the F1 life, so with 3-4 transatlantic flights a week, it wasn't surprising that his performance was substandard. If you want to look at ChampCar drivers making a success in F1, you're really only talking about Jacques Villeneuve, but then he did join Williams, who were top of the pile at the time.
Personally, I like watching ChampCar racing, because I think the single seaters on ovals are awesome. Their drivers are much braver too, unlike the pampered jessies in F1! I've watched a few Nascar races, and I'm sorry, but they're duller than ditchwater. I don't get it at all.
On driving standards, I live in the UK, and most drivers think that the moment they pass their License test, that's when they stop learning about driving. And the UK L-test equips you for British roads like B-1 equips you for the Grand Valley Enduro in GT3!
The worst drivers I've exerienced are the Greeks, both in their native land and in the UK. Overtaking on blind bends, doing 50-60mph in a 30mph zone, past a school, smoking and using a cellphone while driving, driving drunk etc.
And as for GT3, I think nationality has sack all to do with ability. The question is, in my opinion, mince. I've enjoyed reading the replies though!
Hope I haven't offended too many people!
