Dont forget most important part - how GT5 is different with GT4 -

answer - GT4 did not get updates, GT5 is only 2 months out, It have 2 updates already, It will have next update in this weekend. and Updates will be here for some time for sure, This game will expand and be fixed, hope in a good way.

we live in PS3 age now.. now all games are released unfinished (90% for sure) and later get updates.. modern age lets developers to continue work on teire projects.

That just means you got a half-baked game.
Sorry, I don't consider that a formula for "greatness".

Online racing... ? Open lobbies are s**t, but if you race with friends it's much more fun than anything else...

This has little to do with "the game" IMO.
All you need to "play online" is cars, tracks, and physics.
Although this is halfbaked as well.

Patching games is considered a bad thing actually. The good ol' console videogames were all of a better quality, with the fact they could not update the game if something is messed up.

There's a game called The Witcher, it had many bugs upon release. the v1.5 update fixed every issue in the game, which turned out to be one of the best RPG's ever.

The same could happen with GT5, if PD puts in enough effort.

And that marks my 700th post,

I'm a casual player, but I've played through most of GT2 except the endurance races. I skipped GT3, and bought GT4... didn't play as much of it because I got tired of doing the licenses. I was very happy to see that it was not mandatory in GT5. I think the game is good... do I think it is perfect no, but I feel the good out weigh the bad. My main issue with the game is the UI. Although I realize that the UI has never been great, and that each game had it's problems.

Can I just get a check list of tuner parts that I can check to buy and then have a check if I want them installed... then at the bottom have a total with a buy/install button? Can wheels, wings, and race upgrade be added to the tuner page? Can we get rid of the corny music, and not so great animations of the car wash, oil change, engine rebuild, and chassis maintenance removed to make room for other things? I do realize the later is a staple of the series, and puts that Japanese quirkiness into the game. Also you need to be able to remove music genres in one click.... not the half hour it takes to remove every song genre you don't want song by song.

Sure I could go on, but with a game this expansive there will be some issues... but over all I feel the game is great... still not a tuners dream... but pretty much as close as the other GT games I've played. This time though I don't have to do those damn license tests... and that is golden.

This all is of course my opinion, and I do realize it will differ from others opinions.

Great game, just lacks some stuff.
Didn't live up to the hype but that's what happens when you over hype something.

Haha remeber the trailer, especially this one? I still get chils from wacthing it.

You got the feeling this game was going to be like some majour crazy EPIC event of the decade. It would be the grand unified theory of sim games and every every aspect asscociated with cars and racing nailed down.
But instead you only got about 1/50th of what you expcted.

Sometimes even just the failed promise of little things can have a huge impact on how let down you feel.

Especially when you have been promised it beforehand, I beleive its reffered to as indian giving in america

E.g Just the simple few seconds in the E3 trailer when I saw the top gear test track, that great scene with WRX and EVO with a regular driver (pressumably you) in the blue lancer car chasing the stig around, my mind imagined dozens of these type of fun track days, autocross, events, chasing around the stig in a variety of challenges, taking turns in online mode, possibly even SHOOTING a top gear episode type challanges etc

Heck I even imagined doing a normal race on the top gear test track online with your friends and BOOM the stig just comes drifting out from the side and joins the race.
I dont think PD will ever do this kind of spontenuity, but no matter how ridiculous and childish it sounds, if they actually did it, every would love it!

I also imagined full proper WRC, with tons of proper rally tracks, Nascar, kart events, i.e proper actual events and carrer modes, not just load up a track from the data file, set some AI and go, which is bassically 99% of what GT5 is.

Just played the first 3 seconds of it and already got the chills :D
The Stig didn't even properly feature in the game :(
I would have loved some WRC and karting Championships, but we need more events in general.
Your post actually makes me sad :(

This poll is simply setting up for a fanboys vs. haters grudge-match.

Only TWO choices eh? You either hate EVERYTHING, or you love EVERYTHING...

Life is a bit more complicated than that.

LOVE the physics... HATE the game.

Can I vote for BOTH? ;)

I have to vote great game, simply because I have played several hundred hours and if it was a complete disappointment I would have removed it from the PS3 after a week. My PS3 is working on 2 full months without shutting off once....damn you pd for making me get 40/40 and taking 100,000 miles to do it lmao

It's both. Best (console) racer, but a big disappointment in relation to the expectations generated by development.

it hasnt made massive progrees from previous GT titles considering the 5 years in development. but non the less at the same time im still enjoying the game. so both really.:)

I, also, am looking for the "Both" option in the poll.

Great game overall, but doesn't live up to everyone's (including mine) expectations. Hype kills if you don't deliver.

Would have voted 'somewhat of a disappointment' if it had been an option

Same here. I had to vote complete disappointment instead. It is closer to disappointment than a great game for me. I have been with the series since GT1 so I know what GT5 should have been and what we got, ain't it. No need to go into detail about it, though. This isn't the thread for that.

lol. if GT5 a disappointment to some of you, what on earth are you doing here? trying to find some same minded folks and tell the world you dont like it? :)

You must remember that this whole site is for Racing Fans/Gamers in general. It just so happens that GT5 is such in which the good and the bad will be discussed.

All I can say to those that think it's a great game:
They must have never played GT4.

Exactly my point. In which I had to vote accordingly. GT4 ruled for its time.

Agreed. But I suppose this is a personal pole so I would have to say it was definitely a disappoinment given the hype and given what it could have been.

Disappointment for me

Easy question. Did it disappoint you or is it a great deal: yes or no

This is a terrible poll. The reason is that you have two extremes as the only options. This isn't realistic. Most of us are probably somewhere in between the two.

Using me as an example, I generally enjoy the game a lot, and it's been basically the only thing I've played since it came out (my wife threatens to make the disc vanish), but it still fell short in a lot of areas. So, I feel that the game is a bit of a disappointment in that it completely fumbled in several ways but in general it's still a really good game.

But here's the real test: Have you played it nearly every day since it came out? I have. More than 2.5 months now, and I've played nearly every single day. I'd call that pretty fekkin' great.

...and here is your real answer. I started out at midnight Nov 24th with GT5. Played for a week straight since I was on vacation. Played another week straight after my vacation when I got home from work. Since then were the updates, the Seasonal Events and ultimately my lack of interest. I probably play GT5 about 1-2 nights a week for about 1-2 hrs now. If I am not GTing it up, I am playing F1 2010 or LBP2.

Poll: Do you love your friends more than your whole family combined
or
Do your friends totally suck and you wish you could beat them all with wifle ball bats until they pass out?

Loaded questions are fun but ultimately useless...

The real sad thing is that even with the crazy false dichotomy in the poll, 50 people have voted total dissapointment vs the 100 that voted otherwise... especially consdiering there are likely a lot of dissapointed users who simply don't come here anymore.

It is not a great game or a disappointment. It is a GOOD game with a great deal of unrealized potential. The online mode is nowhere near as addictive as say COD, and the lack of quality cars as premiums is a major issue for me.

After six years of development, promises, and delays I expected more...

I'm sorry, but in my opinion the poll is very very biased. On the one hand, you give a modest choice in "great game" and you counter it with a choice thats so ridiculous like "complete disappointment." And so that leaves people like me who still think its a good game, but a huge disappointment, with no viable choice.

It may be disappointment for the 5 years of waiting or for what we were expecting to be...
but for me, from GT1 to GT5, GT is all about racing, on the track there is and wont be any other game to even get close to GT5, and at the end of the day what matters the most in a racing game is the driving/racing experience.
Great Game.

This is a terrible poll. The reason is that you have two extremes as the only options. This isn't realistic. Most of us are probably somewhere in between the two.

I disagree I think having two extremes means you have to actually make a choice. No one cares about the people sitting on the fence, its the extremist that usually cause the most trouble.

Make a choice: You like chocolate, or you get murdered. I may not like chocolate, but I certainly don't want to get murdered.
This poll is an absolutely useless measure of basically anything because it only deals in absolutes, and very few people actually hold absolute opinions about anything.

No one cares about the people sitting on the fence, its the extremist that usually cause the most trouble.
And yet it is the people who take the middle ground that are usually catered to.

EDIT. most important for GT is physics.. they are mind blowing! It seem many forget about them,
I've never forgotten about them. It is just that the fact of the matter is that they aren't anywhere near good enough to justify throwing the rest of the game to the wolves.
And by that I mean that even if the rest of the game was up to snuff, the physics themselves would merely be adequate compared to some other games. Not amazing. Not "mind blowing." Adequate.

I feel like I've voted in a million of these types of polls since the game launched.
In any case, the game didn't completely live up to my expectations but I am still playing and enjoying it so I guess I'll have to vote for 'great'.

to me, it's a great game when compared to the third party competition (read: shift and other games like it, not the FM games), but it's a major disappointment when compared to what it was hyped up to be.

if there were an option for that, it would be what I would vote for.

Still a great game but needs heaps more content. especially for aspec, im talking another 1000 races or something

He's got a point; Osama bin Laden is definitely no fence-sitter!
