Our stay at the hotel included a three course meal so I intended to use it to its fullest.

Starter was scallops, saffron orzo pasta, chorizo, chive & black ink tuile.

Already WAY fancier than I would ever order.

Main was duck breast, duck leg croquette, fondant potato, beetroot purée, carrot, orange & cherry jus.

Now that's just laughable. I don't know what half of tham means.

Dessert was Sticky Toffee Pudding with butterscotch sauce & vanilla ice cream.

Finally something my speed!

And I had some of the dessert my wife couldn't finish. Chocolate & chilli mousse with honeycomb & raspberry sorbet.

The best £120 I didn't spend!

Seriously, though, I think that's what the locals would call guid scran. Hope you enjoy your stay. Try a single malt.

My latest Philly cheesesteak wrap order narrowly missed the free shipping threshold so I added a bottle of honey jalapeño sriracha to the basket to tip it over the limit. Test driving it with this vegetarian pak choi ramen I found in the bottom of the fridge.

[EDIT] The burn is there but it has a slow attack phase.

My wife and I stopped into a whisky shop just outside Edinburgh Castle on our first day because they had a free sample sign. It was only about 15ml but the nectar whiskey did a beautiful job of warming me up. This hotel has a whisky flight tasting you can sign up for but I doubt I'll be doing that.

The scallops were 22, duck 28 and pudding 8. My wife's soup 9, chicken 26, mousse 9 and drink 12.

For an early morning snack, I just finished eating some leftover pancakes from Golden Corral. We usually buy them in bulk and freeze them for the week. And I ate some sausage patties. I'm full, now I can go to sleep for a while.

They have a rotating menu but of the regulars, Chicken & Chorizo is a solid first pick I'd say.

Carnizone and Philly are pretty great if you like to splurge. Pulled pork and The Donald are okay. Unfortunately the open-fire roasted garlic chicken sold out as that was head and shoulders above the rest.

What was this like? It sounds amazing.

It's a sponge cake that's drenched in a sauce that according to the description was butterscotch but to our US taste buds is more bitter than our butterscotch. More like, not surprisingly, our toffee.

All of that was hot so when you plop the ice cream on, it starts to melt.

What's not to love?

You're most welcome, it was magic to meet up with you guys today - and quite the coincidence that we could meet in exactly the place I was planning to meet my mate for lunch tomorrow too; he has a cold so he has had to cancel! I hope the rest of your culinary experiences in Scotland are good ones - might want to steer clear of the deep-fried Mars bars though! 😅

I ordered a Deluxe Domino's for lunch and was good. But what elevated it was a teaspoon of garlic-infused olive oil. Yum!

Yesterday I had a nice breakfast, lots of coffee and a vegan brisket sandwich, which which was great but too saucy.

That beer was a local Oktoberfest themed one, which was honestly one of the best beers I’ve had in some time!
