I made a Turkish liver dish called Arnavut cigeri, despite having never tried liver before.

Turns out I don't like liver.

Liver and other offals are one of those foods (Brussel Sprouts being the most famous example) that some people are just genetically disposed to hate the taste or even smell of. Even the thought of eating or smelling liver is enough to set off my gag reflexes.

*raises hand*

Unfortunately, I married someone that likes brussel sprouts and makes them somewhat regularly. At least she's not a liver fan like my parents.

@TheCracker It wasn't so much the taste and smell as such for me - it looked like it was going to be very tasty, but it was extremely disappointing... and that was after following Rick Stein's method for preparing it. As an aficionado of all things kebab-like, it was a serious let down... and this is coming from someone who tried to make his own donner meat which didn't turn out very well, but it was still edible. The lamb's liver ended up going straight in the bin :(

Egg roll with raw spinach, roasted pine nuts, creamy cheese and ham.

And a beer.

I made yogurt over the weekend using the yogurt function on my new Instant Pot. This morning I mixed it with blueberries and honey and then added a granola cereal mix on top.

This was my first time making my own yogurt. It tastes much better than store bought and for the first time ever I enjoyed eating just plain, unsweetened yogurt.

I just fried up some nice pork and made sandwiches but unfortunately I under-seasoned it. I'm always scared to add too much seasoning in case I over do it but my sandwich just tasted like pork.

Had this behemoth when I went to the movies to watch star trek beyond
twix bar for scale.
A 600ml bottle of coke is just taller.
The thing is so big that I had to keep it in the seat next to me as it was too big to fit in the cup holders in the seats.

One thing confused me about the movie.

What was with the picture of the classic star trek cast

Jalapeno cheddar Cheetos. I know they been around for a while, but I never tried them.

They're pretty good, which is nice to know since I have 10 more bags at home.

I LOVE those damn things. So much better than regular Cheetos.

In an effort to circumvent my self-imposed ban on drinking Gallo White Grenache on a weeknight (because a bottle will last me all of 45 minutes), I bought this instead - safe in the knowledge that I don't really drink white wine and it will go nicely with my dinner (salmon and new potatoes) on a hot, sticky evening here in Scotland (no, really...). Just my luck that it turns out to be bloody delicious and it will probably last me all of 45 minutes. Oh well :p

Base Camp Brewing Co. "Ultra Gnar Gnar."
12 ounce can poured into a 20 ounce snifter glass

Pours a dark hazy Amber leaving an inch of fluffy white head that dissipates quickly. Heavy lacing on the glass.
Aroma: restrained hop notes. Tropical fruit and maybe some grapefruit hinted at. More malt forward than expected for an IPA.
Taste: much less interesting than it smells. Lemony with a resinous coating on the tongue. More sweet than bitter.
Overall: slightly disappointed in this one. Base Camp makes some freaking outstanding beers and I'm sad that this just isn't on par with there other efforts. I'd rate it an 83-85 out of 100. Drinkable but forgettable.
Cheers

Bought these on a whim walking through Walmart tonight.

I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. There is an definitely an undertone of BBQ flavor which I was surprised about and then there just enough aftertaste heat to tingle. I am a fan.

I bought the Greek tzatziki and was unimpressed. Not much different from a ranch chip. I have an unopened bag of Szechuan chicken at home to try too.

A breakfast shake.

Because I have a really sensitive stomach, I have to get nutrients from somewhere. So I make my own shakes with a Ninja Bullet blender:
  • One tablespoon of cacao powder
  • One tablespoon of cacao nibs
  • One tablespoon of amaranth
  • One tablespoon of maca powder
  • Three tablespoons of black chia seeds
  • A handful of toasted, shaved coconut
  • A handful of pitted dates
  • 400ml of full-cream milk
  • 200ml of unsweetened almond milk
It's incredibly filling, which is the point - one of these will keep me going until dinner.

Are those little cilantro flecks?
