Will GT Series ever get the option for a full Livery Creator?

I want "our" Gran Turismo to completely dominate the genre, this has the potential...let this be one of our key steps.

Omg!! Nail on the head right there!! It's almost poetic :)

I too want our GT to dominate the genre, across all platforms.

I think the most frustrating thing is that most of the pieces necessary to do so are right in front of us (I'm sort of grouping GT5&6 together for this point). At this point, we need a few essential tools, and the freedom to start putting these pieces together in the way which best suites our own individual styles of play.

It's not fairy magic that laid out the "Community Assisted" framework for pCARS. It's a void in the genre, and if you look at PC gaming over the last 20 years, it's the future.

I know that Project CARS gets a lot of attention around here, and I understand why, as it seems like what Forza, Shift and Grid want to accomplish, while being more hardcore. I'm still not quite sure what to make of it, and won't until I play it, but the potential is there for a PC sim game that's a pleasure to dig into and use all the features. A Livery Editor that includes a decal maker tool? How cool is that?

I'm still too addicted to Gran Turismo to not be a little unsure of how much I'll like P CARS, and I'd much rather GT7 be what P CARS wants to be on a console. But we'll see what happens with both games.

I thought I'd mention again that people have to LIKE the original post or it doesn't count as a vote. Liking our posts in these threads is great by me, but be sure and Like the first post in the thread.

Pretty much exactly where I stand at this point. Patiently awaiting this fall :nervous:

Just my own thoughts, but if Kaz actually looks past the question in the subject line and looks at the OP's, having Forza videos in there is an automatic fail. They never have and never will compare themselves to other games, in Kaz's mind GT stands alone. Just asking for a livery editor is more than enough IMO. If it were me I'd set him up with an out too. I'd flesh out the subject line within the OP by saying, "Most of us realize that the PS3 is stretched to the limit and it's not likely we'll see a Livery Editor for GT6, but is it something you're working on for GT7?"

If you pitch the setup underhanded, he's much more likely to hit it out of the park.

Imagine if there was a livery marketplace, players can create liveries and put them on the market, people buy the livery for 50 cents and the author gets 40 cents as a credit for PS store/buying others liveries.
Great idea, there's nothing like the free market to bring out the absolute best quality work and I'd be more than happy to pay for it to have near unique, high quality liveries.

I agree. Or we pay with credits of GT6 or trading feature comes back.
What is the point to pay with game credits? Everyone just glitch or grind with X-cars for credits.

Real money gives incentive for players to make amazing liveries. If you don't wish to buy PS store credits make some of your own livery and sell it then you can also buy the high quality.
Or just download the other ones people give for free.

Actually, Forza uses in-game credits for buying cars, liveries, everything, and it works really well. While you could pay with PSN bucks or real money for a livery or set of decals, I'd prefer the virtual kind.

Last night, my autocrossing relative came over for a GT6 session, as he doesn't have the time to set up his racing rig and get it yet. He spent way too much time trying to tame the Team Phoenix Audi R8, but then did some racing. The race was actually pretty cool with a field of fairly beefy GT-Rs, McLarens, R8 race cars at Grand Valley, and they put up a good fight. The replay was panoramic, and I was nagged by my desire to see this in the form of GT7, with maybe 24 cars on track, or more, and all of them dressed up in FIA GT liveries and racing plaques. And the bots all aggressive through every bit of the race, not just the vicinity of his car or up ahead. And yes, sound lovers, with meaner engine notes as they passed the cameras. And with my car dressed up in a livery I designed for it. It almost made the race anticlimactic.

I know the future ends up coming to us in due time, but it can't get here soon enough for me.

In FM3 and 4 multiplayer I saw at least 4 times offensive liveries (insults, racism, swastikas).

If there will be a completely free livery editor for online (I don't think so), I hope it will be possible to report these things....and of course the users should get what they deserve.

Yes.

You do know, though, that within an hour of the editor going live there would be a porn car, a "pony" car, and a marijuana car all at large in the wild. The only way to prevent that kind of thing from happening would be to set up an approval system and prevent unapproved liveries from being used online... but that could also stop attempts to restore missing sponsorships censored or removed to keep the ESRB & PAC happy (alcohol, tobacco) or because of a licensing agreement (i.e. the Phillips Autoradio sticker on the Renault 5 Maxi Turbo rally car, which went missing after GT4 probably for that reason).

Forza must have a better economy. In GT a few credits are worth nothing after a couple of play sessions. (unless you make liveries cost 5 million)

This is already all over microphone, in room names or in the chat.

I think people need to be less sensitive to people who put crap on their car.
Even in real life I see number plate swear words, or people with offensive stickers. I think they are losers but I don't think they should be banned from having that on their car or lose their license.

IMO an approval system is very bad idea, because with millions of players this is impossible and you're creation will never get through the system.

IMO a user voting system is a better idea. After 6 people have voted your livery "very offensive or adult material", the livery is banned from use online.

I'm flogging the proverbial dead horse here, but GT NEEEEEEDS this feature! I could be wrong, but I could have sworn I read somewhere that Kaz said something along the lines of "We would love to include a livery editor in Gran Turismo, but we are not sure if it is possible to do so with the capabilities of the PS3." Don't even try to tell us things like that when Forza is just as sophisticated, and includes a livery editor!

Well, it's hard to have a worse one than GT's :P. But I believe the livery setup has been changed in FM5 - I don't think you can set your own prices for your liveries anymore.

Yep.

I still say one of the easiest possible solutions is to just have a check box in the menu that says "Disable custom liveries". People who want the usual GT identi-car approach could check that, go online, and never have to worry.

That's the same idea in reverse; you could have a bad race and everybody in the race, being bitter, could vote your livery off the game.

In all my time playing FM4 online, I never saw an offensive livery in a race. There might be some that pop up in the marketplace, but a simple Report button can solve that. LittleBigPlanet has a similar feature, as does Forza itself.

There should be as few barriers in place as possible for folks wanting to get their creations in the game. If they're done poorly, the masses will sort that out, and you'll see the results if you can view liveries for a specific car sorted by downloads - again, like Forza. Allowing us to sort the results by a few parameters - and crucially, by a specific member if we see fit - would help immensely in this.

This tread/question for Kaz is wasted. The graphic engine and ram is already pushed to the limit for gt6, so loading this extra into online lobbys will for shure /crash/freeze up the ps3 (specialy on Mount Panorama) framerates will suffer to + more sound glitches.
For GT7 the hardware will cope

Custom liveries are not very intensive on a system, just FYI. I've never EVER seen any performance impact in any game from using a custom skin on a car. Not a one.

Also keep in mind the question says GT Series. This means it applies to future iterations of Gran Turismo, too.

Mod Nation Racers is a great example of this on the PS3 IMO. It has a pretty extensive customization area where you can customize you character, their clothes, and the karts, including custom painting and creating your own liveries.
