If GT5 really takes the RBR route, they better provide a tutorial as awesome as the one found in RBR otherwise I think most would give up even veteran Sim racers :)
Scandinavian flick FTW

To make the WRC part of the game as good as possible, PD should as many others here say learn from RBR.
The physics for that game were outstanding, and are very accurate to reality.
In the previous GT games, the cars have felt too heavy and with a lack of grip on the loose, so hopefully they can cure this.

GUYS!!!!! maybe we can create our own point to point rally stages with the track creator rumor!!!!! omg... that would be amazing... and infinite amount of rally stages to drive on, maybe even mix dirt and tarmac..

I had forgotten that wind, I hope this is coming, I know that arcade racer at e3 was no gran turismo, but making tracks looked really fun/

I am so excited for this game! Between WRC and NASCAR, there's gonna be so much to do.

This is something that has never been in a sim game this style as far as I'm aware of. Another first from PD and the GT series.

(I'm talking about from the beginning also not by user mods.)
You can already race against real life racing drivers in iRacing for over a year now, so it wouldn't be a first.

I debated buying CM dirt 2 on release but this has made me change my mind, Role on release day.

I so hope we get all the big Group B cars included:

All 3 evolutions of the Audi Quattro (A2, Sport, S1)
Peugeot 205 T16
Lancia 037 and Delta S4
Ford RS200
MG/Austin Rover Metro 6R4
Renault R5 Maxi Turbo
Opel Manta 400
Mazda RX-7
Citroen BX-4TC

Wonder how the WRC races will work online. Is it gonna be a time trail like with some of the online races on GT5P or are people gonna be on the track at the same time?

I think they should do it however its done in real life. I know I saw 2 cars on the course at the same time in the trailer but if that's not realistic it shouldn't be that way.

If you join a rally race and its just a time trial where you can't see the other cars but are competing against them for the best time in a stage that would be fine with me.

Anybody knowledgeable of the WRC want to chime in on whether or not multiple cars are allowed anywhere near each other during a stage?

Actually cars are on track at the same time - generally (I think) 3 minutes apart...

Has any one been able to watch any WRC races to see or get an idea of what cars may or may notbe in GT5.

From the looks of things (so far), Only the Citroen C4, Ford Focus, Suzuki SX4 and the Subaru WRX from the 2008 season.

Right now, the main WRC cars at the Citroen C4 and the Ford Focus, both of which are visible in the trailer. We've also seen the Subaru Impreza and Suzuki SX4, even though neither marque is competing this year. It's likely GT5 would also contain other WRC cars as it has done in the past, like the Peugeot 206 and 306, Citroen Xsara, Toyota Corolla, Mitsubishi Lancer and so on. I can't think of any that wouldn't be in; the Ford Focus has been the only one that has really been missing from the series until now. Even though one appeared in GT2, it was pretty generic owing to Codemasters having the rights to the Colin McRae franchise.

I also noticed that with the exception of the priveteer Lancer and impreza, all the cars are hatchbacks. Wonder why.

Don't forget the WRC cars from GTHD. They're graphicly the same quality as the GT5P cars, so I'd say they're confirmed for GT5 as well. ;)

  • '95 Toyota Celica GT-FOUR Rally Car

Good point, I forgot all about those cars.

I mentioned online in another thread and this is were it could shine.

PD could do a weekly event were you complete 8 stages online with car restrictions or whatever they want. Each stage would be added together and you would get the final time like in a real WRC event.
Hopefully It would have live sector splits against you nearest competitor,or the rally leader, you could do all sorts with it.

You could even have it were everyone enters a event and like real rally waits a certain time before they go,meaning you would all be going around cleaning the track for the last driver.like I said the potential use of the licence (not that's needed for online rally) is huge, plus GTTV would instantly benefit from this licence.

Also anyone think that PD could use track data and research materials from the Ps2 games that evo studios used and update them for 5?

Was GT HD all thatand would we get all the cars from HD?

Because everybody uses hatchbacks as they're the best thing to use, as they're shorter and more agile.

And I believe the plan was orignally to carry the cars over to Super-2000 regulations. Not sure what's happeneing there.

Actually it's because hatchbacks are the best selling cars, after all the manufacturers are only in it to sell cars. What was the old adage? Win on Sunday Sell on Monday.

I suppose homologation requirements would have a lot to do with it as well. But I'd like to see some more Group B cars in the mix as well: I felt the Lancia 037, MG Metro 6R4 and Audi Quattro E2 were all really glaring omssions from GT4.

wrc got to the point where being too sideways will only hurt your times.so that is not good for cars with a longer wheel base like the 07 impreza sedan, they are back heavy so tend to sway out to much in the corner. so in 08 subaru made a last ditch effort to be successful in the wrc by changing the impreza to a hatch which probably didnt go as well as they thought it would lol...

Not just to do with that though. One of the reasons Solberg and Atkinson were looking forward to the hatch Impreza was becasue of the increased agilty it would bring.

As much as I love the inclusion of the WRC license, I really hope that we also have rallies that are open all cars new and old, From WRC spec cars to slightly modified prodution cars like this:

I wonder if PD will use an existing game engine for this, maybe the neon engine from Dirt or something completely new.

Obviously they wouldn't use the 'Neon' engine from DiRT. They'd most likely use their existing engine and change physics accordingly. Doesn't seem right for them to use a completely different engine for rally - just a matter of changing the course type's effect on the car ie. gravel, snow etc (just like dry and wet) and the characteristics of handling the cars, eg. during handbrake turns, and other extraneous effects.

No way. They will use the same engine. You can see it from E32009 trailer. The same effects and rendering. PD doesn't have to use other engine. They need add damage, nice driving model for rally game and weater effects. I think that talking pilot will be nice. GT5 need to have some human factor in game.

2010 will be a sort of transitional period with legacy-WRC's still allowed and from 2011 the new rules will apply, with 1.6l-Turbos.
