Forza Motorsport 6 Garage: Blue Oval Week

lime-rock-park

Another week, another batch of cars announced for Forza Motorsport 6 en route to its September 15th release. This time, Turn 10 has focused on one of the standout marques in automotive history, with at least one car from each decade between 1940 and today. Before we get into those, though, let’s take a moment to focus on the new track reveal. Lime Rock is a new track to the series, a tight, rolling 1.5 mile ribbon in New England. It’s brutally narrow, with blind turns, downhill braking zones, and off-camber turns mixed in for good measure. It will be quite a handful for some of the quicker cars in the game.

2-zakspeed-racing-capri-turbo

Speaking of quick cars, here’s one: the Zakspeed Capri Turbo of 1981. A tiny 1.4L engine hides underneath that impossibly low hood, pumping 380 horsepower to the rear wheels, in a vehicle weighing only 790kg. The carbon-kevlar bodywork barely stood higher than the road car’s door line, and if you thought giant rims were a modern day trend, take a look at those 19-inch rims on the back. Will you tame it?

ford-boss-302

A more familiar face, the 1969 Boss 302 is nonetheless a similarly-successful motorsports car in Ford’s extensive stable. Built to dominate Trans-Am racing at the end of the decade, this Mustang was considered, at the time, to be the best-handling Ford the company had ever made. The 302 was a rarity on the streets, with less than 2000 being produced, but that won’t stop you in the game, now will it?

As always, there are more cars than these two being revealed this week. Say hello to the remaining 39, over half of which are built by Ford (not a surprise considering the heavy Ford links the game is promising):

  • 1978 Ford Mustang II King Cobra
  • 1966 Ford Country Squire

It’s so good to see that every single racing game (doesn’t matter if is arcade, simulate, semi-simulate etc) is getting an update and day after day and I did not see with GT. Please, dont say because PP is occupied with GT7. GT had good updates along GT6? Shure! But where the hell are the dawn nice cars which I just saw launch in other games? Whats up with the new update where every dawn single race fan game was waiting for GT6 after the last server off???? WHERE PD, WHERE!

    1. infamousphil

Yeah, GT totally failed in the ‘new’ super/exotic car lineup updates (super/exotics being prefered over normal cars). VGTs are close but not the same as what’s actually out there. Advantage FM.

  2. shawtyoner

LIME ROCK!!! I love it, couldn’t be happier with this being one of the new tracks. Hope they have the old layout included as well.

  3. infamousphil

I want to be impressed. I need to be impressed. But l won’t be impressed. But not before l see a full and final release report of FM6… or any other racer for that matter. I sooo dislike to be teased and still am miffed that a course creator hasn’t been realised for GT6 yet. But this ain’t about GT.

Roads America and Atlanta, Sebring and Indianapolis and now The Rock… what else can you expect from a US version of a Japanese origial. Oooh yeah, l know!… Dynamic time and weather?! Haaahaha

LOL, all teasing and rib nudging aside, these racing titles will get it together someday… hopefully ;)

Bore off… No this isn’t GT and no Forza doesn’t need dynamic weather.. It would be nice but isn’t essential in my book.. As for a STABLE framerate, well that’s a MUST! All nudges aside ;P

    2. nocturnalgrey

@skidmark – Forza NEEDS dynamic weather, and to be honest, it’s a joke that the sixth version of this franchise still has to yet to offer it. But, hey… it’s got “puddles”

      All nudging aside. ;)

    3. infamousphil

Thanks NocturnalGrey. Someday dynamic time and weather on EVERY CIRCUIT will be as normal as collision damage and idiotic drivers.

Cain’t wait to see knuckleheads having to pony up credits to get their busted up

    4. infamousphil

… whips repaired after slamming into a wall and reinstating drivers license after failing to pay their wreckless driving citation fines. Then we can start the neck cranking while cruising by an accident scene and waving good ridance to the ambulantory patients as they are loaded up for transport.

Yup… FM and GT should be that REAListic before the end of their XBone and PS4 life cycles. PERIOD…. no excuses Turn10 and PD ;)

    5. imported_skidmark

@nocturnalgrey why does it NEED dynamic weather? And why does it NEED dynamic time of day?. It’s a circuit racer that rarely goes above 7 laps online in a short track and 3 on the bigger tracks.. It would be a waste of resources making a dynamic weather system that still hits 60fps at 1080p.. Why? Because it would online make sense in a 24hr race.

Not one single company has gone to the lenghts t10 have with there puddles so I don’t see where your going with that one.

Oh and can you name a single racing sim that has dynamic weather and time of day that runs at a LOCKED 60fps at 1080p res? NOPE thought not.. You do make me laugh ?

    6. nocturnalgrey

@ skidmark – Why does it need dynamic time and weather implementation? Did you really just ask that question? To put this into context…

Why do racing games need qualification and grid starts…
Why do racing games need cockpit views…
Why do racing games need damage modeling…

You tell me that dynamic weather and time is a waste of resources yet praise T10’s application of aforementioned resources to the creation of “great lengths” puddles?

I have spent several hundred dollars on Forza over the years and I have yet to happy (same with GT). You’ll have to forgive me if I don’t get excited over “puddles”.

  4. RobbiefromBC

Reading cars off this list alone makes me want to buy an xbone and FM6… That Capri and Cortina, very tempting…

  5. ildd

can anyone give me a reason not to preorder the console bundle? Because this car list is absolutely insane.

    1. SlipZtrEm

      1. Silly sound effects on the console.
      2. Pre-ordering the digital version – at least, the Ultimate one – let’s you play it 10 days before release. Pricier since it includes the Season Pass, but the FH2 car packs have been great quality, so I’m hopeful for FM6’s.

    2. ildd

So far the sound effects have been the only thing telling me “no,” but I’m really hoping there’s an option to turn them off.

  6. MannYhAvitZ

Oh man!…. I guess I will have to cheat on my PS4 on September 15 and so on after that. Great year for Racing games…

  7. MMX

The variety in that car list is awesome, almost makes me wish I had a xbox. Be nice if PD would take note here.

    1. Magic Ayrton

What’s PD? – This looks so tempting.. just needs a really convincing hardcore physics engine now.

    2. sailworksman

FM series is getting better and better. I have worn out my 458 Italia wheel on FM5 and still play FM 2-4 with the old xbox wheel. It’s a series in my mind that is underrated, but I think that’s changing. Turn10 is racing to the top.

  8. GT5 Level 41

Ever find yourself wishing all driving games were multi platform? I’ve made my bed with the PS4 and I’m just going to have to lie in it.

    1. Magic Ayrton

I haven’t bought either.. there is something ‘fairly wrong’ with both GT and Forza imo.. just waiting for it to be fixed!!

    2. GT5 Level 41

I’m happy with my 4. I just don’t want to maintain two accounts/systems/peripherals/etc… Like I did with the 3 and Xbox. Spent more time keeping up with all that crap than enjoying my games. Passwords, fees, user ID’s, online personality. Just too much…

  9. acedition333

I have to say, this is looking to be a great game. Too bad I’m not an XBox fan. I’m hoping for a “Breakthrough” in the next Gran Turismo game.
