Gran Turismo 5 Now Available at Some French Retailers

Reports are coming in from France that several local retailers, in an attempt to snag extra sales, have already started selling Gran Turismo 5 – much to Sony’s chagrin. Above, you’ll find a video from GTPlanet reader Pablo, who provides evidence of his copy (along with a receipt) purchased from FNAC Bellecour in Lyon, France. Others report in our forums that Micromania have also started placing the game on store shelves. Good luck tracking down an early copy of your own!

    1. 2 more days...

      @Vitzio
Not likely. Sony France gave the approval, it’s not like the game isn’t leaked allready, and it’s only a few days early. Just a minor glitch in a big fiasco, nothing to fuss over.

@Tripotou…the basic mistrust that is pervasive in French society rationalizes this kind of untrustworthy behavior.

Kind of like ‘I don’t trust others so they’re fools for trusting me. I can act in a disingenuous way because that’s how I expect others to act’.

In that scenario it becomes ‘every man for himself’. The net effect is a lowering of concern for the common good at the expense of personal gain.

Then again ‘Every generalization is untrue.’

Just whiling my time away in Taiwan on business waiting to return to the US Wednesday night early enough to pick up my CE edition before the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

I am disappointed Paris did not make the track list as I lived in France for a couple of years and enjoyed that bit through the Place de Concorde.

BTW…just had a mild earthquake in Taipei. I’m on the sixth floor and so it was ‘interesting’ feeling the building moving back an forth. Thought for a moment it was just what I ate for dinner…pretty spicy stuff! Pretty common occurrence, earthquake in Taiwan.

  2. Cobolt60

I bet you granger games in the UK are selling it early too. I got GTPSP a few days early from there. The guy selling me it just smiled when I mentioned the release date.

  3. Luke

This is really driving me crazy, just like the time with Mass Effect 2.
I rarely pre-order games, and when i do, i/we always seem to be the last persons to play the game :(

  4. Kennyr33

Sweden has also got it at some stores :) i got it yesterday! :) 10 hours playing, but have to fix my real car today so will only be a few hours today :(

    1. Tripotiou

Glad we dont have You in France, LOL law socety that Why we have it before everyboday dont cry you are going to have it in a couples of day. Be patient. BTW the game is a mazing ;)

    1. TheTekator

      Not really.

I totally agreed that, there is no game worth 70 euros (approx. 90$ or 60£)
But, supermarkets are also selling it, and, at it’s “correct” price, 55euros (approx. 70$ or 45£)

  5. Falango

Well this retailer is gonna get screwed over really well. Why try to get extra sales early? The only people that know are really the hardcore fans, that had pre-orders, or were going to buy it anyway. Not worth the risk.

  6. BubbleBelly542

At least we know they can’t delay it anymore. It’s kinda “out there” now. Or they could and people would be playing prologue and a half

      Honchie translation:
Damn! those who drink antifreeze, the bastards (an attempt to describe chain smokers) have gotten their first copies.

      fredyellowstone transalation:
Not too certain to understand your sentence.
      But nice try.

I think that if any country’s retailers were not going to abide by a commitment to do as they had promised, France’s would be either at or near the top of the list.

Malgre cette faiblesse je ne les aime moins.

    @GT’ireland

No mate, there’s no law against any retailer selling a game before it’s official release date, it’s all above board unless the retailer in question actually has a contract in place with Sony stating that they won’t sell their products before the official release date, only then does it become a legal matter. However Sony can introduce sanctions against the offending stores that break their rules (i.e not provide them with any future games, not sell them to the company at cost price, not ship the game to them until release day etc). The stores in France that are doing this are running the risk of damaging their business in the future, that’s why most retailers play it by the book when it comes to situations like this.

  8. canadasux

yeah, screw sony; their chagrin is well deserved and earned. it’s just a shame such douchebag retailers don’t operate in the states.

  9. AGNT009

I’ll be calling my local Gamestop Monday morning to find out if they’ve secretly been given the ok to release Monday. Crossing fingers my fingers, and will try to grease their fingers as well, lol. Its like a weak dam trying to hold back a huge river, the 24th release date isnt strong enough to hold back the copies coming into the stores, putting intense pressure on the retailers to let the GT5 waters flow baby!

You know, some places carry those old school credit card stampers when their computers go down. Perhaps my local Gamestop can be persuaded to change the date on the stamper to Wednesday, stamp it Monday, and run it through computers Wednesday. Moohoohaahaa [Dr_Evil_pinky_to_lip_face]

  10. Foxiol

If game don´t say nothing to me this monday about the Signature edition, i have one place that is plus €5 and i´ll get it for sure.I need all and i have the money so…one more day!!!

  11. AGNT009

WHAT THE HELL BOBBY! Damn it, Sony needs to just release the hounds now, and let the US retailers sell it on Monday! Cause I’ll be off that day :) Oh well, the French better start whipping out some great info on the game…checky bastards!

  12. Foxiol

Oh man…the only place that i forgot to see online for my pre-order was this store here at Spain and they ship free and -15€…$·”$”·$…i have my preorder at GAME but i have no news until monday…(is for Signature Edition).

    1. Foxiol

o forgot to tell that in that store is out of stock…and is not like in france, they will sell it the 24th. Spain sucks…vive la France!

    1. pablosh01280

Call me whatever you want. you’d better learn to spell correctly.

A dutch bag is a bag from Holland. Just to let you know.

    1. Tripotiou

I don’t think Sony can but the other stores yes because is not fair for does shop who doesn’t have the game so people who did order the game are going to go buy it at the store who had it.

  13. Grafpt

I work at Best Buy and it isn’t “Illegal” The store could just be fined thousands of dollars. I wish they could hold my money and just ring it up on Wed :(

    1. Charles

Yup, I remember when Modern Warfare was released….Wal Mart had them on the shelf and selling them and the cashiers had no clue what so ever that the release was the next day. Most of the bigger chains here in the U.S the people are clueless in the video game department.

  14. seinfeld

with GT4 I was lucky got it 2 days early, chick scanned it, I was playing dumb, she asked where did you get this from, I said it was on the shelf over there (a shelf that the employees use to transport things) but who am I to distinguish between shelves she typed a code, and gave it too me, I was so cheering

    1. TheTekator

Please, say nothing about france, because my country (yes, I’m french) is far behind anything you can believe ;)

To clarify, it’s Sony France, who gave a green light to ONE huge retailer with who there were troubles in the past (the biggest video games retailer who isn’t selling PSP Go for example)
Then, it has became knew over the internet, and, as every retailer (worldwide) did received the game, any store which is near from the previous quoted one, deceided to sell the game.
But, Sony Worldwide, flammed Sony France yesterday, and, some small retailer stopped selling the game.

BTW, when I called my supermarket, they told me : “XXX (name of the retailer who had exclusivity) is selling it, we’re also. Anyway, Sony has NEVER communicate with us, after 3 years late, then, the day we get the game, we’re selling it, no matters the official release date”.

But, please, do not envy us, French people, mostly about video games ;)

  15. Woggster

Damn you France! i want my copy.

Just to let everyone know, they had GT5 at Autosalon (modified car show) in Sydney. Can anyone confirm if it was the full version?

  16. takumisensei

You can say 80% of French Retailers have receive the game now. I buy it yesterday ^^.

I saw the game in 7 shops this week end in my small town ^^

  17. GT5Crush

Geezz makes me want it even more!! i work at a electronics/gaming store in the caribbean an we’re getting gt5 on the 25th!! just can’t friggin wait….been into it for 12 damn years!!

  18. syaieya

I’m rather disappointed with the instruction manuals these days. I’d like a little more than just 3 pieces of paper slapped together. GT4’s was fantastic, it added weight to the entire package. Maybe they’re using it as a way to promote the apex book or something.

    1. TruenoGuy86

its always like that with euro versions of sony published/developed games, thats why my sony games r region 1 US, u will notice the page difference and colours unlike PAL black&white less pages but sometimes PAL gets awesome non-standard editions like gt5 signature and heavy rain infamous special editions which aren’t available in the US.

    1. mario

    1. fastattacktuff

      @GT’ireland Of course it’s ILLEGAL!
Employees of video game stores who sell the game early all go to prison. But not to some white-collar resort prison. No, no, no. They are going to federal POUND ME IN THE ASS prison.

    2. Godmoc

I hate FNAC. They don´t care about the costumer. All they want is our money. They should be punished.

      Please don´t buy anything there.

    3. tyl0r_r

it’s not illegal to sell them because once they store buys them they are the property of the store and they can do what they want with them. the only thing is that it could potentially piss off sony enough to damage the relationship between store and company.
