Gran Turismo 5 Online Service Maintenance June 18

Amid all the GT6 excitement at E3 last week, Polyphony Digital quietly announced a new online service maintenance notice for Gran Turismo 5, scheduled June 18, 2013, between the hours of 03:00 and 05:00 GMT/UTC (click here to convert this to your local time).

As many will recall, new game updates are often released during such maintenance periods, although this is certainly not guaranteed.

It is, of course, unlikely that GT5 will see any significant new features or functionality added or changed in any such updates, with the full release of Gran Turismo 6 now no more than six months away.

Holy crap, thanks for that update, I’d have had no idea had I not read everything already posted prior, including the article and links attached!

    2. tpark103

Cool appreciate the heads up. Sometimes once things happen and we get disappointed nobody says anything. Since I’m so far from home I have know idea what’s going on. So again Niyologist thanks..

  1. KamperAssassin

I’m sure this update has something to do with the server’s kicking unnecessarily plus probably a fix for the sarthe 0.00.000 time on the leaderboard

  2. SavageEvil

Perhaps that blasted Corvette 2014 with ability to tune the damned thing…right now it’s good for normal drives and little else as I can’t get much performance out of it with all that weight in it. Also would be sweet if we got to take that damn targa off the zebra printed prototype, I would love to zoom around in that thing with that paint scheme. Heck that should be a paint scheme to apply to any car.

    1. DITCHLINE

They did on the last update hope fully they will let the hybrids back in GT5 is played out with modding

    2. sangdude82

Ppl wouldnt havrto hackto customize the cars.. Should be able to do it from the start.. If ppl wana go at the speed of the sound… I suggest the, to go play a flight simulator instead..

  3. Progress823

Please let this update kill the excessive horsepower hacks….I don’t care if someone has a 1,000hp Supra, but 80,000hp is just stupid.

    1. infamousphil

I get great satisfaction out of kicking those hack jobs out of HighPerformanceStreet. It’s like I’m a god or somethin’.

    2. PepeMickey

A 1,000 hp supra is just as bad as a 6554236780 hp redbull in my eyes. I enjoy kicking and reporting them.

    3. infamousphil

My bad, I wasn’t finished. You see… I let them get good and comfy. Let em drag up and down Mulsanne and the Nurburg stretch. I watch em crash and burn, bounce off invisible barriers, … have their fun, then starting in a first come first kick basis, kick one. I watch and listen to the confusion of their homies leaving unannounced. Where he go? Oh, he went to get another tune. Ha ha ha. Not a clue.

I say nothing. Just get back on track. Get in a practice lap or two. Make a comment or two… ‘ready up.’ The real hard headed, usually the last one left. I time it perfectly. Wait til the instant they hit a barrier, then poof. Aaahhaha, Teeehehe. It’s like they’ve died and gone to … Funniest thing i ever see on GT.

  4. mikeymc92

hopefully they will eliminate all of the hacked cars once and for all. plus terminate any ps3 accounts associated with them

    1. TeamCZRRacing

That would be a bit mean, not to mention that it’s possible – probable, even – that the system would detect a TON of false positives. It would be more of a pain than it’s worth.

  5. Quakebass

The biggest thing that could come would be an update with minor bug fixes. I don’t see why anyone would expect more. It’d be pointless to add content – it’d just take away from the upcoming sequel due in about 5 or so months.

    1. biftizmo

not if the DLC was GT6^ comparable…i dont see my spa track not unusable in gt6..why not? and i don’t mined if the bring out Spa with night and day at sum point when gt6 is out..i ll still buy it…and that goes for any premium Plus cars the bring out too..

    2. Pit Crew

Agreed QuakeBass. Just like the last one, it’ll be server maintenance, including more clamping down on the Modded cars, nothing More.

    3. biftizmo

agreed possibly just a hacker fix and bugs ..but because its not long to GT6 release is not enough reason to say its not dlc for sure……what about academy prizes? is it going to be a long wait to receive them?…will there be none?…or will we have them in gt5? or will we have to wait until gt6 comes out?…as it is a GT6 version of the academy..this leaves lots of other questions not considered ,if its just a bug fix as you say?

    4. Quakebass

Considering that the Academy is in GT6, I don’t see how gifts would come in GT5… Plus, I’d bet GT6 will be out sometime in November, a little more than 4 months until the full game is out. It isn’t TOO much of a wait…

    5. ScotteDawg

Not much of a wait for GT6 but if PD have any “left overs” for GT5, why not put them up as DLC? PD and Sony could still make a fair bit of cash out of us GT5 faithful..
That money they make could go towards these ‘breakthroughs’ Kaz mentioned for GT6!

  6. Ingenting87

Ok, so i know its prob just gonna be a standard maintenance, but please let it be an update to make engine swaps possible :)

I so badly want to put a 2jz in a S13 or S14. They really could use a power boost for drifting.

Its not that i dont like the ca18 and sr20, they are great engines.

But 400 bhp in a fully tuned S13 or S14 is simply just unrealistic.

    1. ScotteDawg

The possibility of engine swaps bring implemented into GT5 is equal to there being streakers added!

      NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!!

    2. sangdude82

If the engine swapping is coming to GT, it will be on GT6. So, let’s wait and see what happens.

    3. Amac500

I doubt engine swapping will happen period because the manufacturers added to the game are trying to sell their product as well. For example, GM has an in-house rule that nothing can beat the Corvette, so I doubt they would be okay with engines getting popped around making a GM car quicker then the Corvette in the game. Plus if it happens it deffinently shouldn’t be a slap-dash thing where you can just change any engine. They would need have the size if the engine bay taken into account in each car because it would just be stupid to be dropping V12’s in Fiat 500’s. It needs to stay realistic in that regard, and swapping engines isn’t even as simple as everybody seems to think it is. Just because it fits in the car doesn’t mean that you can do it. If you don’t make other upgrades to accommodate your new power then your just going to destroy your drivetrain, not to mention that a larger engine will also effect your weight distribution, shocks, and suspension. So at the end of the day just slapping in engine changes isn’t very Gran Turismo because they probably can’t do it realistically.

    4. TeamCZRRacing

@Amac500 I hope there is engine swapping in GT6. I’m not a hacker, but I do think it would be a good system to have in there, as long as they were reasonable about it like Slightly Mad Studios was with Shift 2. For example, the game would allow you to take the standard 3-rotor 13B-DEI engine from a Mazda FC3S RX-7 for a 4-rotor engine with more power, but you won’t be able to swap in, say, the R26B engine from a 787B, nor would you be able to take an engine from another manufacturer. It would provide a few more extra horsepower and provide a bit more customization without being unbalanced.

  7. marktyper

All I can say is that I learned how to drive because of GT5. My first wheel was DFGT and upgraded to G27. Now it’s been 6 months since i’ve learned to drice manual for real. Haha and yes i’m damn serious . Cheers PD! However i’m more looking forward for The Crew and DriveClub .

I know in the past 2 nights I’ve been in 2 rooms that have crashed, 3 in the last 4 days. Server maintanance required

    1. sailworksman

Last night, my screen went black twice in the middle of races. Server purge I’m sure, that’s what it is.

  9. nissankidd85

lol its to stop all you weak racers from “hacking” or “modding” your cars *evil laugh*

    1. GTHEAD87

I have to say, modding cars to be lower is cool but making a fiat 500 with veyron specs, thats not so cool.

    2. Shock_Gee

Let’s hope so! Hacks are still doing their thing and are blatant about it as well knowing Polyphany Digital will do nothing more about it! For me, Gran Turismo 5 is ruined and GT6 will suffer the same fate being released on the PS3 consoles. Hacks (cheaters) suck!

    3. mikeymc92

eliminate all of the hacked cars once and for all. plus terminate any ps3 accounts associated with them

  10. richiem2282

ther servers lately have been brutal, constantly kicking and been kicked from the servers, hopefully this’ll sort it out and we’ll be back to normal once again.

  11. HarVee

Meh. What’s the point in updating & maintaining GT5 still with GT6 right around the corner?

    (Pun not intended.)

    1. mr_pepps

@harvee Is it your understanding that online racing on gt5 will cease once gt6 is released?
      I doubt it.
It’d be a pr fail to shut down straight away without understanding how many gt5 users worldwide remain.

I still think there’s a little more for gt5 over the coming 6 months.

    2. Quakebass

^ If by “a little more for GT5”, you mean “regular server maintenance”, then yeah, I’d agree. Since when has a game had continued DLC after it’s sequel was released?

    3. HarVee

I never said they should close the servers down. I said they should stop updating and maintaining them. There is a difference.

    4. Amac500

They need to maintain it because we are still playing Gran Turismo 5 and I’d rather not see my online racing run amok with server crashes and hackers.

    5. mr_pepps

      @harvee True true, I misunderstood.
@quake I’m holding out for something other than server maint’ – at least until Christmas. Ever the optomist :)
@amac Agreed – don’t leave gt5 to the mercy of the hackers.

  12. 2012GT325

I have hardly played GT5 in the last 6 months (due to school/work/etc), but am eagerly waiting for July 2 release of GT6 Demo.

I know that Sony doesn’t want to hurt their credibility by announcing a release date and then missing it, but it would be better for them if they gave a release date for their upcoming products (PS4, GT6, etc). One of the reasons why the Xbone might be selling at all right now may be due to the fact that they have a set release date where as PS4’s “holiday 2013” seems further away (even thought November/December are very close).

    1. Hentis

Play gt5 most days and still really enjoy playing it.
A release date for PS4 will be either the second or third week of November with GT6 possibly shipping early November or dare I say it early December. If not it will be next year. I am looking forward to July 2nd and will have to wait and see what the online maintenance will bring!

    2. kazach

I havent played Gt5 for over a year… No plans on buying Gt6 so far from what I’ve seen. I think Project Cars will be nice.

  13. Danny280zxturbo

I hope this update will take the hack away for good and also take those extra parts away…..

    1. Starciller

They need to keep the extra parts. With GT6 coming later this year I think they should be focusing more on GT6 than their outgoing game.

    2. lspredator

The entra parts is has always been in gt5, We have just not Been Abel to open it up before, so i realy dont understand why you want to take They away, when it is in the game

    1. HuskyGT

Still my daily routine of doing four laps in the Nurburgring 24H with time and weather. Never get bored of it.

    2. MeanElf

Still plenty of lobbies online too – I have let GT5 slip recently, what with two games I wanted to play having come out, but I still manage to call in for an hour or so every other day.

    3. TokoTurismo

Ahhh SlowIn, FastOut. I see GRID 2 bored you already hmm? Well pfft, of course it will even with good engine sounds, it still won’t succeed. Guess you still care for the GT series and yes, people still play GT5. :)

    4. ScotteDawg

I play GT5 daily! Most of my time is spent racing with one group of people, though I do go to other rooms with other ‘friends’ and race them from time to time! Haven’t got bored of GT5 yet and, even when the GT6 demo comes out, I will still play GT5 until the full version of GT6 is released…

@infamousphil – I didn’t know that the old Buick could be sent!

    5. infamousphil

IDK either, Scotty. Should have kept it when l had it. Got rid of it cuz my garage count was too big… at that time. Up to 1060 now, but processing speed much better now. Made no changes myself. Maybe an improvement during a maintenance cycle.

    6. Tvensky

GT5 and GTA4 are the only games on my PS3 I still play, everything else is sold, traded or gifted….

GT online is still full and always fun… and I drive it there time to time.. with my g27 the races feel like championships.. (if there are no kids at lobby!…)

the only problem I have with it is lack of tracks.. I know every corner of GT game.. and thats a bit overplayed..
cars… well I only driven about 30 % of them…. and about 10% I know how to drive good.. everything else.. I have to learn.. so the amount of content in GT5 in the end is enormous…

still, cant wait for GT6…. also I hope that there will be something on PS4 from PD… so solng without a gt game on ps3 was a big mistake.. hope not going to happen with GT7…

    7. Master_gamer438

GT6 has been confirmed for PS3 & PS4, I found out in a lobby. I find out everything GT related here. And no where could I find this info until I googled it & Kaz himself announced it @ E3.

    8. Master_gamer438

And nearly 4 years? GT5 was released Nov. 24th 2010, I sat outside for my midnight release copy, making Nov 24th 2013 3 years, we are nearing 3 years….no where near 4.

    9. SlowInFastOut

yeah @Toko GRID 2 blows, which is why i renewed my iRacing account recently :) much better and more realistic racing than GT5, the only thing it lacks is a huge number of cars.

    10. Quakebass

      @Master_gamer438…

Uhh… It hasn’t REALLY been confirmed. Kaz only stated that a PS4 port MAY happen “LATER” – so, nowhere NEAR the PS3 launch.

Direct quote from Kaz: “I think a PS4 version will appear naturally. We won’t keep you waiting too long, but it won’t be too soon either.”

  14. sonic378

I hope it it kills the hacks/mods permanently. Barely any realistic ones out there just crazy HP out there.

    1. smskeeter23

That’s because almost the only “hacks” that work anymore is the HP modifier. So really the current state is actually worse now IMO.

    2. infamousphil

A friend has a wickedly dropped 86, FT or something like that… not that I appreciate that sort of thing.

    1. Saisoku

I think the 1000hp Supra is realistic, ever watch TX2K? I prefer the secret parts. Just my thing.

    2. ScotteDawg

I think they do that to all serious platers of GT5! Just like the ‘trolls’ who come in here, the hacks are just a bunch of wondertards with nothing better to do than spoil everyone’s fun!

  15. HuskyGT

Yes! We’re getting DLC! It would be awesome to have the new Mercedes SLS GT3, or maybe Silverstone. Probably never going to happen in GT.

No seriously guys. Are you really expecting something new in GT5 when GT6 is only months away?

    1. smskeeter23

I think “IF” this is an update to the game it will be the very last one. My guess is that it probably is in fact ONLY server maintanence.

    2. ScotteDawg

Y’know Husky, it would be in Sony’s and PD’s best interest to offer us something in the way of DLC! As you said, GT6 is only a few months away, but while we’re waiting for that, why should Sony and PD not try to make some more money out of us?
In all honesty, PD could do with the extra cash to be able to make these “breakthroughs” they want to make before the release of GT6

  16. smskeeter23

Who knows, it’s remotley possible (albeit not likely) that they’ll release one or two of the new tracks for paid DLC to pocket a little more cash before GT6? Just sayin… “if” they have GT5 compatible stuff laying around why not release a couple more pieces of DLC.

Thats what I would do. Milk every last penny I could out of it.

    1. smskeeter23

I should’ve also mentioned cars not just tracks. There are a couple we KNOW are hidden (5G, JPflag, etc) either in the game or possibly exist somewhere else. Roll those out basically for no cost to PD and cash in a buck a piece.

    2. infamousphil

Updated cars from standard to premium is more likely… if they bother to touch 5 at all. But l’m truly hoping they release those stealth and other special cars l missed out on while procrastinating 4 years ago.

    3. smskeeter23

I would be just fine with updated models. I don’t use standards often at all because whenever I drive I like to keep the option open for photomode and I don’t really have time to clean up standards. Also some of the ones I do drive are rendered so horribly it’s just not even worth it.

Stealth/Special: Without a doubt it would make some people upset but the game is at end of life now so it’s not like we’ve had them while the other people did. They won’t be using them after this (unless there is an import function) but still they have been exclusive cars. And we would still be paying for them anyway. Personally I don’t see the issue. I wouldn’t be PO’ed about it if I had paid for them up front and they now released them.
