Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges: Rogue Squadron

A fresh set of five new Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges are becoming available to players around the world, as local clocks tick past midnight into Friday, featuring some of Update 1.61’s new content in a bit of an unusual-looking week.

Weekly Challenges can be considered a bonus game mode, comprising five races that refresh each Friday morning. Four are drawn from existing events in “World Circuits”, with a fifth “Special Event” created just for that week (which is, in many cases, a pity that it disappears once the week is over). You’ll receive bonus prizes, in addition to the credits you win from the races themselves, that increase in value corresponding to how many of the races you complete.

Usually there’s a spread of race rewards, from events worth low-20s to low-100s of thousands of credits, but this week we’re starting in one of the least lucrative races of them all in the Sunday Cup Classic. This race only requires a road car, and takes place over two laps of the Goodwood Circuit for a paltry 5,000cr.

We’ve got two races awarding 35,000cr this week, including our Special Event. You might need to listen to something exciting during the four-lap race of the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in this event for the new Nissan Qashqai as its electric soundtrack — with a variable compression 1.5-liter gasoline engine droning away to generate the electricity — not the most exciting. There’s no restrictions other than the car, but then again it can’t be tweaked all that extensively either.

The second 35,000cr event is in the Lightweight K Cup at Autodrome Lago Maggiore East End Reverse. It’s a weird layout and a seven-lap race that requires any of the seven kei cars in the game using Comfort Soft tires and at no greater than 400PP, which can make for a challenging race.

Our penultimate event is a running of the brand new Race of Turbo Sportscars race at Fuji International Speedway, requiring cars tuned no higher than 700PP and equipped with a turbocharged engine. You’ll need something with legs to keep up on the long pit straight here, but otherwise it’s a relatively comfortable race for the 90,000cr on offer.

It’s a bit of a leap up in prize money to the next race which is, unsurprisingly, a World Touring Car event. However it’s the WTC600 race at Tokyo Expressway East Clockwise, one of the fan-favorite events for high payouts given that it earns 550,000cr for around the 25 minutes it takes to run. You can use any car of any kind at no more than 600PP for the race, but nitrous is prohibited and watch out for high tire wear and changing weather.

The bonus rewards are jiggling about this week. There’s a Six-Star Parts roulette ticket for completing any one race, a 150,000cr ticket (which you’ll need to redeem to earn the cash) for finishing any three, and the clean sweep is worth a Six-Star Car ticket which can award any Brand Central car (including Invitation-only cars) worth 500,000cr or more.

You’ll need to have completed GT Cafe Menu Book 39 and watched the ending movie in order to have access to the Weekly Challenges. The events update at midnight local time on Friday mornings, so we’d expect the next set on the morning of Friday August 8.
