Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges: GT-R Factor

The Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges continue in their regular cycle, with a fresh set of five events becoming available to players worldwide as of midnight Friday morning in your own time zone.

Weekly Challenges are a bonus game mode, becoming available once you’ve completed the GT Cafe career. They comprise five events — four from existing World Circuits races, and a fifth “special event” created just for the week — which you can find in a special, green box in the World Map, World Circuits and individual track selections. As well as offering the usual rewards for completing the races, there’s bonus prizes the more you check off during the week.

For the latest set of challenges we begin with a simple Sunday Cup race at Tokyo Expressway Central Clockwise. It’s a two-lap race open to any road car of any kind (with a suggested Performance Point value of 380PP for a fair race) and worth 27,000cr for victory.

Unusually, Fishermans Ranch hosts the next race in a rare appearance of a loose-surface event. It’s just a single lap of the long and undulating circuit in the Japanese 4WD Challenge 600, although there’s quite a list of limitations. You’ll need an all-wheel drive road or tuned car from a Japanese brand and with Dirt Tires fitted, but there’s no cap on tuning. With 30,000cr on offer for winning the race, we wouldn’t go overboard.

Monza hosts the next race, in the Evolution Meeting series. This is open to roadgoing examples of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (but not the fictional Gr.B Road Car) and in any state of tune, with the four-lap sprint worth 70,000cr for victory.

Our Special Event is up next this week and it’s a bit of a monster. On the surface of it this Nissan Skyline one-make isn’t too different from the GT-R Cup event that already — aside from excluding R35s — but you’re going to need a serious tune to keep up here; 700PP just won’t cut it compared to the rabbit car at the front, never mind catching it in the four-lap run around Grand Valley Highway-1. You’ll probably spend more than the 82,000cr winner’s prize on parts to be competitive…

Another unusual appearance comes in our final race, in the Gr.1 Prototype Series at Road Atlanta. This is one of a very small handful of timed races in World Circuits, with a 30-minute limit rather than a lap counter. You can enter anything — a Gr.1 isn’t needed, despite the name — so long as it’s below the 950PP cap and has Racing Tires. Watch out for high fuel consumption if you want the 320,000cr for winning.

For this week’s bonuses we have a mixed bag, starting with the Six-Star (Parts) Ticket for finishing any one of the five events. Complete three and you’ll earn a 150,000cr ticket, which you’ll need to redeem from your Garage’s Gifts to claim the face value. Finally there’s a Six-Star (Car) Ticket if you complete the full set, offering any Brand Central car (including Invitation cars) worth 500,000cr or more.

You’ll need to have completed GT Cafe Menu Book 39 and watched the ending movie in order to have access to the Weekly Challenges. The events update at midnight local time on Friday mornings, so we’d expect the next set on the morning of Friday September 26.
