Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges: Now That’s Magic

With the Spec III update arriving today, players can also get a first look at the latest iteration of the Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges, available from midnight Friday morning in your local time zone.

In fact the change isn’t all that big, with the general format remaining the same: five events you’ll need to complete during a seven-day window with bonus rewards for doing so. Really, it’s just a rejig of what event types are included in the five — no longer being just races.

Mission Challenges and Time Trials are now among the events eligible for the Weekly Challenges — and that makes its debut with this week’s Special Event which is a “One-Lap Magic” Mission created just for this week.

Otherwise it’s as you were for this bonus game mode, which offers a quick way to rack up close to a million credits (in coin and in-kind) each week and is available to players who’ve finished the main GT Cafe career.

Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges – December Week 1 Events

One-Lap Magic – Watkins Glen

Oddly, there’s no credit reward at all for the first non-race event in the Weekly Challenges, but then again there’s no outlay either. Update: A one-time 40,000cr prize pot has since been added, comprising 8,000cr for a third-place finish, a further 12,000cr for second, and another 20,000cr for victory. You’ll be taking part in a One-Lap Magic event in the Corvette CX.R VGT, where you’ll set off after a bunch of other Corvettes and try to beat them all to the finish line despite your significant time disadvantage.

European FR Challenge 550 – Autodrome Lago Maggiore

A more standard event awaits next, with a round of the European FR Challenge 550. If you’re familiar with this type of event, you’ll know the number isn’t a restriction but a suggested Performance Point (PP) value for a fair race. Or, as all you need is a front-engined, rear-wheel drive road car from a European brand, you can always just go overpowered and smash the five laps at the East course of Autodrome Lago Maggiore for the 40,000cr reward.

Silvia Sisters – Deep Forest Raceway

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Silvia Sisters, which you will need to unlock if you haven’t already. This event requires you to use one of a selection of Nissan Silvia road car models — including the 180SX and SilEighty — for a three lap race of the reverse Deep Forest Raceway course. The AI cars are usually wearing a range of fruity tunes and engine swaps, so you might need to fight fire with fire for this one if you want the 45,000cr reward.

Japanese FF Challenge 450 – Blue Moon Bay

A brand-new event in the Spec III update is up in the Weekly Challenges at the first opportunity, with a four-lap race at Blue Moon Bay Speedway Infield A in the Japanese FF Challenge 450. Per the earlier Euro event, the 450 is a suggestion only, as you just need a front-wheel drive car from Japan for this event that offers a 50,000cr prize for first place.

World Touring Car 800 – Yas Marina Circuit

Another brand-new event, and also a traditional Weekly finisher, comes up in the last slot. That’s the new World Touring Car 800 race at the new Yas Marina Circuit. It’s a ten-lap race, with your opponents being Gr.3 cars but you can use any car of any type up to an 800PP limit so long as it’s on Racing tires. As usual there’s some steep multipliers — especially for tire wear — so you’ll need to drive sympathetically if you want the 200,000cr prize for winning.

Weekly Challenges award bonuses for completing one, three, and five events, in the form of tickets. You’ll need to redeem the tickets from your Garage’s Gifts to claim the prizes, and for the third week in a row we have a full set of credit tickets.

Regulars will know what that means: a 100,000cr ticket for finishing any one event, a 200,000cr ticket for clearing any three, and the 500,000cr ticket for checking off all five.

You’ll need to have completed GT Cafe Menu Book 39 and watched the ending movie in order to have access to the Weekly Challenges. The events update at midnight local time on Friday mornings, so we’d expect the next set — and with a new look — on the morning of Friday December 12.
