GT Sport Daily Races: Spirit of Race

We have another set of Daily Races to occupy us over the next week in GT Sport, and there’s something of a Japanese focus. Two of the combinations feature real-world Japanese circuits and cars, while the third takes us away to a fictional European location.

Race A is one of the all-Japanese events. The race takes place on the Tsukuba Circuit, a short track with four (or five, if you’re not brave enough) braking points, well known for its time attack events. You’ll be taking it on with a highly regarded car the likes of which you’d only find from a Japanese manufacturer: the Mazda RX-7.

This rotary-engined car comes from Japan’s “gentleman’s agreement” era, a period in which the major manufacturers essentially prevented a costly horsepower war by an unspoken deal to keep their flagship models at no more than 280PS (276hp). The RX-7 is one such model, with even this 2002 car limited to just 276hp from its 1.3-liter, turbocharged twin-rotor. It’s yours for the duration of this five-lap race.

Race C also heads to Japan, and the more world famous Suzuka Circuit. Suzuka has been home to the F1 Japanese Grand Prix for over 30 years (bar two races at Fuji), and is a staple of the Super GT calendar. That’s exactly what you’ll be doing this week, with a free choice of any of the six Gr.2 cars in the game for this ten-lap race.

You’ll need to be aware of the tire regulations this week though. Players may use medium and soft tires during the race, but the medium tires are a mandatory option. That means you’ll need to use the mediums for at least one lap during the race, or you’ll face a post-race penalty of a minute. Of course you’re free to use the medium tire throughout, switch from medium to soft, or switch from soft to medium.

Last on this week’s race menu is a Gr.3 event at Alsace Village. This is a simple enough event, consisting of four laps around the fictional French course in your choice of Gr.3 race car.

These three races will run through to Monday, November 16, when another new set of three will replace them.
