GT5 Online Service Maintenance Coming July 16th

Polyphony Digital has announced maintenance for Gran Turismo 5’s online services next week, starting Tuesday, July 16, at 03:00 GMT/UTC (convert to your local time here) and lasting approximately two hours.

Software updates for the game are usually released during these types of maintenance periods, although this is certainly not guaranteed.

Say bye bye to hybrids again for now!

    It’s a fact… Pull’em out and they reset.
And to the numbnut who wants to flippen complain about ppl having hybrids gfys!
I don’t have 25,000hp cars but I very much enjoy my 1000hp Mits GTO or my slammed Supra and my white Nismo 350z Ztune!

  2. tpark103

Stinking maintenance!! I don’t get a chance to get on to often. I just got kicked off. I hope this is good.

    1. mistersafeway

Weather anywhere glitch, but there’s more to it than that, which I don’t think should be discussed. People ALWAYS make YT vids which gets it removed from the game. Hopefully they’ll only remove the offending part, if anything.

  3. fatkid

Doubt that it will be anything but an maintenance update. Otherwise I think it will just be an update to synch prizes from the GT academy demo when the competition ends, or to put GT6 videos on the GT5 store.

  4. Andyc709292

My gut feel is they’ll use it to roll out something they need to bulk test for GT6 – that might be as simple as the rollout mechanism (given the fubar from PS3 update recently) or perhaps something more interesting.
Sounds dull, but as a software dev manager it’s what I’d be doing – lowest risk for GT6 by testing on us old goats. Though we may never see it – it could be something that only GT6 test crew see. As if you think about it, somehow they need to globally test lag etc for GT6 before launch…

    1. Quakebass

And they can do that in the PD offices. They don’t need to do it through GT6 or otherwise -they can do all of they’re testing in-office. It’s nothing to to do with global connection, they can merely limit how much data comes into a system to test low-connection reactions.

  5. 2012GT325

If anything, PD should/would/may be switching servers because of lower traffic/demand for GT5. Because, honestly, I wouldn’t want them working on improving, releasing updates for GT5 when GT6 is only months away from release. All their focus needs to be on the next chapter and we should get an expanded demo (more cars/tracks) of GT6.

    1. Amac500

I disagree, I extend to keep playing in GT5 until the release of GT6, so I hope the servers stay open.

    2. ScotteDawg

Sorry mate, I feel the same as Amac500 on this!
PD’s focus is where it’s meant to be and if that means we’re going to get updates for GT5 then that’s what will happen!
As for servers, GT6 is going to need a better one than GT5’s!! The GT5 server could not handle the amount of traffic, even WITH regular maintenance updates!

    3. Pit Crew

PD knows what they’re doing. Online traffic is still hefty enough to warrant keeping the GT5 servers stable. Its alot of legit online racing leagues (WRS being 1) that depend on those servers to do what they do, and ultimately these leagues could also have a race schedule that will take them into November 2013 very close to GT6s launch.

GT5 Prologues servers where kept going for almost a year after GT5 launched.

    4. z71L28

No!, hopefully PD will keep releasing updates for Gt5. Everyone is still on Gt5, Gt6 ain’t here yet. I’ll be on Gt5 even after the release of Gt6. I’am very satisfied with Gt5, PD is foucsing in ereas that didn’t need attension graphics, physics engine. Going to research Gt6 for a couple of mounths before decideing on making the swich, Also wana take it for a spin first.

    5. Quakebass

GT5 servers will stay open for YEARS after GT6 is launched, just as GT5 Prologue’s did.

I can pretty much guarantee that the racing leagues will move up to GT6, Pit Crew.

    6. Pit Crew

Im sure they will too. What I mean is that some leagues will want to finish their GT5 schedules before GT6 launches, and shutting down or not maintaining the GT5 servers during that time is unfair. Im in a league and we are booked till December 2013.

  6. L2D_J-kirb_

I think it’s great that they told us the dates they plan on interrupting my tandem sesh. Also people won’t be yelling “psn is down..

  7. smokinocala

Either or us that dont cheat should get a reward for not accepting ppl offers of bribes so i would shut up. Not me, i report them only because i believe in fair and realistic races
Sorry to complain but it’s crazy

  8. smokinocala

All the hacks, will they be gone. Please tell me that on July 16 2013 I won’t have to race my reg hours of tune time car vs ppl who cheat the system. They all should have some kinda penalty for the amount of bs they creat.

    1. HuskyGT

      +1

And the more content they keep for GT6, the better. this update will only fix minor issues, you’ll see. And it’s probably just for the online portion of the game, or probably what others suggest which is preparing the file transfer system.

    1. TeamCZRRacing

No. That would mean that PD would have to take away staff from GT6 to produce further content updates to GT5. It would be counterproductive. Small updates like this one, on the other hand, don’t take long at all for a studio like PD to produce or publish. :)

  9. lldantell

i hope this would fix the glitch in the lobbies when someone is in first and the leaderboard shows last

  10. bigburt82

I think it will be the prize DLC bonus from GR Academy – Silverstone circuit for GT5 and maybe a couple of cars.

    1. TeamCZRRacing

@100111 It could be that they’re adding the necessary files for the Academy prizes in the update, but making it so that they don’t unlock until the Academy is over. It’s more or less the same thing they did with GT5’s DLC in order to reduce the download size.

    2. 100111

@ teamcz sure the academy isn’t over for aother 15 days so lots of time to do that mate, an reminder last years gta an how long it was before we got the cars. An plus I mite not get anything till gt6 from it is aother thing to

    3. Pit Crew

^Last years was so long, because of the amount of reward cars (8). It took 2 months to receive them all plus the suit. In any case it more then likely only maintenance for the fragile GT5 servers, maybe trying to brick the SPL finally…which should have been done 2 2 months back when they attempted to brick hackers, which took an extra month…

  11. HuskyGT

Online fixes. now that I finally find some fun playing online in free roam rooms, the thing start kicking everybody out like every ten minutes. It’s a pain having to go back and look for the room again.

    1. HuskyGT

I bet it’s going to be a “Fix of minor issues” thing. It makes sense. PD shouldn’t even be worrying about GT5 anymore, yet they still are to its last days.

    2. another_jakhole

Unfortunately, I remember something about Kaz saying that PD is focusing on GT6, and have moved on from GT5. I wouldn’t expect any update that brings something, least of all a Spec 3 update. I was sure we would get one, but that was only based on GT5 Prologue.

    1. AcenSpades

That would be nice, i would hate to start over my massive collection of cars. Some that i still do not have, like that very rare MB CLK LM GTR.

    2. Quigz125

Yea or all those $20million cars and those rare cars like Lancia Stratos. (I think those are rare, at least that’s what they said on Top Gear lol.

    3. HuskyGT

That will ruin the fun, for me at least. But I definitely would love the ability to transfer all my DLC paint chips if possible. I only used like two of those XD

    4. Pit Crew

If so, which I doubt I hope it’s optional. Plus how would PD conform the 2 different Physics and graphics models to work or look properly?

    1. HuskyGT

Yes, I’m in love with that car! And what an amazing picture indeed.

Not many people like the F40 because of the handling, but I would say the car has character. It took me like two days worth of tuning to finally make it drivable. It’s now as gentle as it can be even with ABS off.

    2. infamousphil

I too dig the F40. It’s especially gratifying to win a race with it. I get all kinds of chatter when I bring one of the two onto the track.

    3. infamousphil

OMT, it’s always better to take pictures with the sun at your back. You get a better image of the subject(s). The image does, however, give you a real sense of speed.

    4. HuskyGT

I don’t know how these people get these awesome pictures. I’ve played around for hours with the shutter speed, panning modes, filters and although I manage a similar effect, it’s never this smooth.

  12. smskeeter23

Ok I’ll be the first to say it “DLC DLC DLC I want X”

There now nobody else has to come in here and say it.

    1. infamousphil

I for one wouldn’t mind an update. Don’t care what it is. If we get a new car or track, …hooray!. Whatever. The maintenance must be for something positive. It’s that they don’t bother to tell us why or for what that gets us up in a tizzy.

    2. Nelsonatormjn16

I really hope its new DLC because we all been waiting for that new NSX concept haven´t we? maybe they could add that car into the game and those two tracks which was seattle and apricot hill thats been in the trailer for the new NSX, i hope these will come to gt5, like we been waiting too long for that NSX and they haven´t put it into the game.

    3. Nelsonatormjn16

I think the same way that we should get the car and the two tracks and then we can have a nice ending to gt5, we can´t be bothered to ask if we can get willow springs any way, we all know that´s going to be in gt6.
