As observed by PlayStation LifeStyle, Gran Turismo 5 suddenly became very popular after the game’s official release date announcement last Friday. Within 24 hours, the standard version of the game topped Amazon.com’s video game “Movers & Shakers” list with a 1,300% increase in sales rank. The more expensive GT5 Collector’s Edition came second on the list, with an 823% increase, followed by the 160GB PlayStation 3 console with a 236% increase. Impressive numbers, to say the least!
With “Black Friday” and the busiest holiday shopping weekend of the year just days after GT5’s release, demand for the game should be very high. You can nab a $10 video games credit on Amazon if you pre-order with them – or, if you don’t trust your local delivery man – you can also take advantage of GameStop’s online pre-order with in-store pickup (you can also pre-order online at Best Buy and pick up your copy of the game when doors open on the 24th).

I have a question which refers to the car list…i hope you don’t mind guys…i was thinking and came to the point…haven’t TOP GEAR and PD worked together? because the list is utterly strange…how the hell did they miss some good proper cars like ford RS or Bentley? god damn…just a conclusion
and the sierra cosworth road car or RS turbos,at least there is a renault 5 turbo in the list thought.shame about the bentleys and porches

Bought my ps3 months before prologue came out, 40gb Fat,… had it replaced under warranty a few weeks after I got it because the disk drive broke, but the new one is still good.. still running well. Must be over 3 years old.
Hope GT5 sells very well as I admire Kazunori a great deal.. and I want him to concentrate on GT6!!

Bought my ps3 back in 07 just for GT5 and god of war 3 as well but mainly GT5. On my second ps3 and been babying it because it’s about to go through torture.
When you read those percentages, it seems to me that PD/SONY sure know the power of delays and Amazon must be absolutely loving these figures. Let’s see if GT5 sells more than 5.6 million copies in the first week when compared to Black Ops.

Well apparently it is but with the numbers of 100,000 shipped it does not seem that way. Signature on the other hand i can see going quickly it might look like its not doing well but infact i think it is game station say they have a number of pre-orders for signature and they also said they think standard will sell out on day 1.

the first gran turismo made me get a playstation in the first place so in a way if it wasnt for gran turismo i may have been an xbox owner….likely not though as sony are superior in every way,ive only owned sony products,their the best..cant wait for the online challenge.

lol i got black ops cuz i was tired of waiting for gt5, then 3 days later, a release date. go figure.. i really hope gt5 does better though, but on the other hand black ops is very good, so i dont know. my only problem now is finding enough money to get gt5. i blew all of it on my g27 and black ops…
If you guys are expecting for GT5 to outsell black ops that will be very complicated. Yes I think GT5 will sell very well. The only reason why COD games sell so well is because they are MULTI-PLATFORM games. GT5 is an exclusive only available for the ps3. COD is for ps3, xbox 360, wii, nintendo ds etc. I don’t think it’s impossible for GT5 to outsell black ops but it won’t be easy though.
I just hope GT5 outsells nfs hot pursuit in USA. I know it will outsell it overall but USA is full of a bunch of douchebags that don’t play racing games anymore so the least I can hope for is that GT5 will at least outsell that. plus worldwide I’m hoping for gt5 to outsell mw2 and mw1 as far as ps3 sales. obviously it won’t oout sell mw2 on all platforms. 20 million is a lot

I dont see what the big deal about COD:BO. It looked to be a carbon copy of MW2, I havnt and may never buy it. For those of you wanting the CE of GT5, you can thank the disappointing car and track list for that. Many downgraded to standard edition after that. I had SD preordered to begin with. Im really surprised the game preoders took off, cause everyone you talked to were disappointed with their lists. For the casual fan, Im surprised they dont want for reader reviews, then buy it. It will be good, no doubt, but there a lot of epic losses already it seems. Last one or two games we had NASCAR config at Sears Point, then they give us the cars, and take away that track!? That hurt alot. Theres probably still millions more people waiting to see how they game really is before they buy it. And if the people who buy day one arent happy after a few hours and days with the game, it will be the sales shock heard round the world. The franchise is literally riding on GT5. If this isnt epic, their status as king of the kill is over. GT6 wont be in high demand. And COD 20 will be able to kick its but with ease. The other thing that can kill this game is servers. If they suck, its ALL over. I find it hard to believe that they KNOW their servers will be slammed 24/7 for the next year, but yet they wont do anything to get more DLC money from us? We know PD and Sony are idiots on many levels, I can just see them giving us crappy servers after the 2nd year, citing no income to keep them up. Well, who’s fault was that?

There have only been 41 million PS3’s sold WORLDWIDE… So are you saying that 50% of PS3 users will buy GT5 to match MW2? I highly doubt that.
If Mario Kart is considered a racing game, it will take roughly 60% of PS3 users to achieve this. It will outsell Forza 3 (3 million units) most likely, but you’re insane.
Forza 3 represented about 15% of XBOX users.
Mario Kart represented about 31% of Wii users.
To say that GT5 will be bought on half of PS3s is extremely unlikely.

@themule Mario Kart is considered a racing GAME, even though it isn’t a racing sim. GT5 very well may be the top racing sim of this generation, but I doubt it will outsell GT3.

My statistics are up to date according to VGChartz.
So at 40 million consoles over 4 years, that’s 10M/year. That’s still 35M behind Nintendo… While I agree it will sell many PS3 consoles, it’s not going to be enough to sell 10M more…
Even if it DID sell 10M more consoles, it would still have to sell 1 copy for roughly 40-50% of all PS3 owners… So I don’t see it catching up to MW2 or Mario Kart any time soon… Is my logic wrong?

I hope I’m wrong about it, but I don’t think I will be. Sadly, crappy casual games (or massively over-hyped COD games) often outsell good hardcore/enthusiast games.
