InsideSimRacing Gamescom 2010 GT5 Video Coverage Preview

As I mentioned earlier, GTPlanet teamed up with InsideSimRacing to provide comprehensive coverage of GT5 at Gamescom 2010 (which turned out to be quite a job!). We covered the announcements as they happened – now the ISR team is sorting through over 80GB of material to include for their upcoming GT5 and Gamescom special features. Watch for a quick preview in the latest episode (posted above) around the 28:00 mark, or take a look at a few of these screenshots from their footage below.

I thought I was the only one that was thinking that for a second, Liam. This dude is truly putting on a sick display of this game’s potential. This is definitely the gameplay video I’ve been waiting for(that early Viper ACR was pretty good too).

  1. Super_Colossal

You know, GTSeries Maniac, I agree. GT4 was awesome, the best for the PS2. And GT5 will be the best on the PS3! I bet it bothers you, like it does me, how many people have standards so high that GT5 may not even satisfy them. What will then?!

  2. GTSeries Maniac

I cannot wait, yes the jag looks overpowered but maybe there is a quick tune on this demo. The wind effect blows me out of the water :D
Day and night, red dust after the taillights,1000+ cars, standard cars look amazing,i mean we didn’t have cockpit in gt4,still best racing game till gt5 is out :D
In november 3rd I will JIZZ IN MY PANTS!!!

  3. magic ayrton

Well, Big Ron, if you can make a better game we’d sure like to see it.. In the meantime take your beef up with Kazunori, not me!!

  4. Peewee737

@angel and @bernd. You guys made the most important comments. The oohs and aaahs are all wonderfull. I think it all looks great too…
But the speed is way too high!!!! Remember, the straight is uphill as well. 320 km/hr?!?!?
The internet says that the Jag can only do 287km/hr. For a ‘real driving simulator’ I think the speed difference is disappointing….

    1. Magic Ayrton

You don’t realise that in this demo you can probably alter the horspower in quick tune! Maybe it has 650!

    2. Big Ron

      @Magic Ayrton
There is always someone, who finds excuses to justify the errors of PD.

Never saw a “quick tuning” option in the demos.
The fact is, that the ´66 Lemans cars are way too overpowered here, the Jaguar defenitly was running only 160mph (259km/h).

It will not be the only car way too fast on straights, happened in early titles, too.

  5. tvensky

not bad :) this time I liked all video.. a bit for PC users more (for me PC is for work not for gaming).. but not bad at all :) its good that other people count days left till GT5, thanks guys!! ;)

  6. RedBabuin

GTR 3 will be realeased in 2011…. if GT5 keep things arcade… I wont spend my time… I know what I should play.

    1. Magic Ayrton

GTR3? GTR3??? What the hell? Graphics on GT5 are the best you can get anywhere!!

Why come on here posting stuff about PC games?? Pffffffft

  7. rocketcaron

This is still lacking for Gran Turismo. What I would call the drivetrain effect. When you shift gear mid corner or do sloppy downshift in a bended turn entry.

The cars in GT dont feel like they are affected until they break traction. Its kinda hard to explain but some other sims do this better.

Hey, thats nitpicking… but these games lives and dies by these details.

    1. magic ayrton

It’s still just a game right?? I mean real cars grip right up until the point they lose grip… some break away progressively like a Mazda MX5 for example.. and a 350Z.. but others, maybe on slicks or sticky tyres will break away just like that.. So let’s play the game and comment on here after eh?

    2. DrTrouserPlank

Are we certain that we are judging the game on simulation physics with aids disabled?

As astounding as I find it, apparently some people don’t play GT as a full sim and use the “arcade” settings; maybe leading to your conclusion on the video. I have watched the video but without sound so if they specified realism settings then I’m not party to that.

    3. rocketcaron

As I said, nitpicking, This game will be awesome, no worry there. Just mentionning a detail. This a discussion board right? We could just all shut up and wait for the game but how fun would that be?

  8. rocketcaron

This is going to set the standard for graphics for YEAAAARRRSSS to come. I mean nobody’s going to come close to it for A WHILE!

This is shaping up to be fantastic.

But a 1966 Jaguar could never be shifted that quick. This thing shifts like it had a dogbox, they should put some delay to make it more reallife.

    1. realtedtostig

I just cant stand that stupid ‘bumber cam’ i mean like wtf? cockpitview has a more realistic feeling. drive with it. either that or hood cam.

    2. tvensky

Totally disagree. Bumper cam is way more easy to drive and feel all your car’s handling. Steering wheel still got a delay on a wheel spin, this couse me to crash too much. and I cant turn my head in cock pit and ist very restricted view, maybe this will change with the new addition of head tracking, but still delay is what disturbs me (It is on GT5:Prologe)

    3. gNNY

he’s using the “stupid bumper cam” because his monitor at home that he uses to race is way to small. If he’d use cockpit view there would hardly be any space left for the actual road and his lap times would go way down.

But he’d accept donations for a bigger screen anytime :)

  9. wakenabeb

I wonder if anyone has said anything about this, but how are PD handling the figure-of-8 of the top gear track? Will it be left open and cars hit each other if they are crossing paths?

    1. Bernd

Perhaps the cars turn transparent, like in GT5p-online. I’d like to see a bridge there, even if it’s not like the original track

  10. GTbyPlaystation

Cool, a little more information in this video. It seems you are able to choose how close up you want the map to be and whether you want it to rotate or stay static.
Check out 9:44 of the second video.

  11. heymoa

OK don’t get me wrong I am counting the days and what ever the final product turns out to be I’m sure it will be amazing….. but…. 3 things bug me watching the jag going round the ring. 1st is it looks like traction control is mandatory when on the grass gravel traps etc just like it is in GT5P, is it too much to ask to turn it off? 2nd the steering wheel in the cockpit view isn’t moving enough compared to the corners. 3rd not the 1st time I have mentioned it but I’m hoping someone listens to me :P but the gear change animation is too slow! Please get rid of the predictive gear change animation and change when we press the button don’t try and think for us :P

    1. Angel

      6:02 2nd video -> Top spped of the XJ13: 320 km/h. (200 mph)
I think PD and KY have overestimated the power of this car…

    2. heymoa

“Nor should anyone doubt the potential of its unique 502bhp, 5-litre V12 engine. During early testing in 1966, it lapped the MIRA test track at over 161mph (259 km/h), establishing a lap record in the hands of Norman Dewis, Jaguar’s legendary test driver, despite the car still being in the development stages”

      http://www.jdht.com/JDHT/html/Trust/jdht_collection/1966JAGUARXJ13.html

yes I think you might be right, but then the car was never fully finished or raced so who knows.

    3. Bernd

I just googled for it: The V12 engine’s max. output was 502 HP, just enough for 259 km/h, which is roughly 160 mph

  12. Magic Ayrton

I agree with you about ISR Iceman zidane (top post) they were just sucking up to Forza 3… Forza 2 is better and thats without cockpits!

Second video.. check out the bump and consequent Suspension movement… PERFECTION!! roll on 3rd Nov.

  13. Craigles

That AI looked quite hard and he was driving well (apart from the spins) But if you spun in passed gt games you would of still been in contention to win the race.

  14. DrTrouserPlank

Still a bit like driving on ice at low speeds on the grass which is sad to see as it’s just a bit too overdone. 1500kg cars don’t swap ends on grass at the slightest touch of the throttle regardless of their power.

This is GT’s one weakness. It’s physics engine is really built around it’s high speed performance with the slower speed physics seemingly tacked on in a slightly inaccurate manner.

    1. Mr Frappy

You are contradicting yourself a bit here. If the high speed physics are so good, why does the car spin out unrealistically on the grass at high speeds?

    2. DrTrouserPlank

Because cars that don’t have significant loading when traveling at high speed and get a wheel on the grass are bound to spin or at least get a bit slippery. That’s certainly a more likely reaction than something spinning like a top from stationary.

  15. BlakeC

Amazing sense of speed in the Jag heading round the Green Hell, looks like it’s right on the ragged edge the while way round

    1. Mr Frappy

Not quite true GTbyP, and it also depends on how you pedantic you are being about it:

      ≈27:59 = Start of segment
      ≈28:26 = First mention of GT5
≈28:39 = First mention of GTPlanet
≈28:57 = Start of actual video coverage of GT5

Looking forward to their full coverage though, will be nice to debate the starting point of that too! lol

  16. alba

Yeah, the segment is way too short for an half an hour episode. You guys should wait for the next one with all the footage and what not. This was just the introduction before Kazunori’s keynote.

    1. Neal

Exactly, Andreas does say there will be more in the next episode with Mark and Andrew after the breakout session!

      Good work Andreas

    2. Mr Frappy

Well, to be fair it is just a short segment in amongst many others to set the scene for a more in-depth feature.

    3. gNNY

I sat through the whole press conference and all they had was the release date for Europe. That was disappointing :) But trying out GT5 firt hand later was cool.

By the way, the guy you see in the background is a crew member who starts to tear the rig down. I stayed till they kicked me out of the venue. *hehe*

    1. IronM@sk

Well if you watched the whole thing just for the GT stuff then you would be a spud. It clearly says “around the 28:00 mark” for the footage.

    2. gNNY

well, it was just a preview, after all. The recap of the breakout session will have more information on GT5. Although, if you’ve read the write-up by Famine and Venari already you probably won’t learn much new there either.

  17. Alex

i think he should have explained how toscana looked in 3d with no driving line better. he should explain if the 3d makes driving more realistic etc. a bit bland

    1. gNNY

3D looked better because the dirt that gets tossed up from the other car looks pretty cool. And since an offroad track at night with low beams is rather challenging, turning off the driving line just makes it even more interesting. That’s why Toscana was so special. IMHO

    1. ICEMAN_ZIDANE

yeah man , 67 days for me now :D that will be just awesome
1.More gt 5 Gamescom videos = much more better :D i can’t wait for the game
2.ISR omg , 1-2 years ago i thought ISR was a good cahnnel in youtube and i thought they know the differences betwwen a sim , a arcade game and a arcade game with a touch of sim but after the videos and the comments abour Forza 3 i know they ISR knows nothing about SIM games , that is the reason why i will never watch more ISR videos
