I honestly think they’ll revise the engines even further with the final release… I mean, in the E3 demo, the engines still sounded like they did in Prologue, yet now, we’re hearing a vast improvement. I think we can expect sounds that will be ever closer to that of Forza or GTR with the final release. Part of me hopes that’s so…

    1. Vulcao

Closer to Forza and GTR? Who told you that PD’s goal is to have a similar sound to those games? Or maybe you consider the sound of those games the standard of quality.

Keep this in mind: the best engine sound is not the most noisy one, but the most realistic. Some cars do have a smooth engine sound.

  2. ALex

    @ yazeedksa911

LOL “man , there driving 200 mph but i just dont feel like it”
YOU CLEARLY HAVE NEVER DRIVEN A CAR that fast. its not a giant blur and speed lined everywhere . what ur watching represents Real life simulated physics. not some effect strapped ontop

“in nfs shift , if i drove 120 mph , i fell lije im flying
they sure got it right , hope PD well get it right”

PD have already got it right. your just a 12 year old fool who has never actually driven a car.

why not just keep playing NFS-shift . it clearly suits your age..

    1. yazeedksa911

i dont want a fight here
so keep the good manners , i didnt say anything to ya
i can see whos the 12 years old now

  3. ALex

i gotta say . Australians V8 super cars are ten times more exciting then Nascar on every level. even the British touring cars are more exciting earlier in this page somebody had a comment referring to Jacques Villeneuve at Road America Nascar race on you tube. i gotta say i watched the whole thing… it was hardly Nascar at all. what u where watching mate like it or lump it . was pretty much how v8 super cars have EVERY race….

  4. zeek1597

sorry im dumb. But 205 is still fast in a race, maby qualifying its good, but your tires were and you get slower.

  5. yazeedksa911

man , there driving 200 mph but i just dont feel like it
    this really suuuuuuuuck
in nfs shift , if i drove 120 mph , i fell lije im flying
they sure got it right , hope PD well get it right

    1. J-KiLLA24

well what ALex is saying is that this is how it would really “feel” if you were driving in real life at 200+mph. PD got that “sense of speed” since GT4.

  6. Vulcao

I have just watched a video from a cam inside a real NASCAR car. The sound is exactly the same, except for GT5 being more “noisy” (for those who play electric guitar, “fuzzy” would be the perfect term). Alba, or someone, said the volume on the TV was set on maximum, which probably made the sound go out of the clip. That may have caused the fuzz effect.

PS: I don’t know how to play the electric guitar.

  7. Earth

Yes they were hitting 330 kph (205mph) at Indy this past month.

However I noticed he made one corner without dropping below 280 kph (174 mph). This is too fast, the real pole lap at Indy he dropped all the way to 270kph (168 mpn). Denur was on R3 tires so thats probably why. With R2 or R1 tires the cornering speeds will probably more closely match the real cars.

    1. Big Ron

It looks a bit, that some driving aids are active or he really used R3 tires (I´ve never known, what they are good for, cause they are really unrealistic). The car handles way too insensitive and straight. Maybe it is a reason for the fast lap times and fast cornering.

  8. Big Ron

I beat, not every car in the game will sound as good as the NASCAR cars. Not even all Premium Cars.

Also noticed, that the car is very fast on the straights. Do they reach 330km/h in Indy?

  9. Earth

Carbonfibre, Indianapolis is about as smooth as a track can be. It has no bumps. But, GT does need to work on their bump simulations. Daytona is notoriously bumpy especially in 3 and 4 where you can see the black marks where the tires leave the ground and then come back into contact with it. Yet that was not felt or seen in GT5P’s Daytona.

Denur was doing a good job with no sound and first time in NASCAR. In order to keep up with the AI he would have to use the whole track and nearly hit the walls on corner exits. As it were he was driving safe and giving 5-10 feet on corner exit.

    1. Carbonfibre

From what I’ve been reading I was hoping for a near iRacing level of difficulty when it came to NASCAR physics. This is amplified by good track bumps to stop the experience being completely sterile all the way round. Even if the bumps aren’t accurate I think they need to be there.
The vehicle physics themselves don’t have to be iRacing good ether but you can’t be so bad as to have NASCAR being stupidly easy because that WILL be boring.

  10. DrTrouserPlank

My favourite bit was where he turned left, then went straight then went left again. For a minute I thought he was going to turn right but then I remembered that he couldn’t.

Looking forward to racing some normal cars anyway.

  11. NBH

I don’t want to get my hopes up about the sound. To me the microphone is clearly being overloaded which is making the engine sound this way. If you listen very carefully you can hear music in the background and this sounds distorted too.

  12. BubbaLsL

I also have GT5 pre-ordered and have my G27 waiting to turn some laps with it, but it seems that most videos I see of GT5 only have 8 racers on the screen at a time. I am sure this is just because it is set up that way, but I really hope the 16 they promised is in most (I know some tracks aren’t made for that many, but in this Nascar video there should be the promised 16 on track). Still I very excited for November to role around.

  13. nuno cardoso

i will like to ear the sound of the pagani zonda and my favorite sound car on gt4
    the mazda 787B
pls put this car on the game

    1. Bernd

The 787B was one of my favorites in GT4 because of it’s sound. To this very day, the 787 is the loudest car driving at LeMans EVER ! As far as I know, it’s successor, the FURAI, will also be in GT5 :-)

  14. Carbonfibre

This should be PD’s strong point; very limited rev range to deal with and no looping issues to worry about.

The illusion is being completely undone by the gear changes though. There are no bumps whatsoever, and sound remains flat throughout the course. Off throttle doesn’t sound particularly appetizing ether. So it still has exactly the same problems as all the sounds in GT5 have, but this was the best sample effort yet.

Not talking about sound for once, the bumps you can see are not from the road surface, but canned cockpit shake effects. Taking for granted this was normal physics difficulty in this video, it was bound to be boring because it’s completely removed the on edge fear and sensitivity NASCAR should have.

  15. smthrlr

Boy are they plugging this NASCAR license. But try as they may, even PD seems to have trouble making NASCAR exciting–I was seriously bored with that vid.

  16. Guidzit

I’m thinking about one thing… Worrying me !

The sounds have now been improved (that’s great!), but will this improvement be also available for non-Premium cars ?! :(

    1. Matt123456

On the post the other day it showed some of the screens from the tuning menus and there was something saying how you could change the sound of your car by buying certain parts so id imagine thats for all cars. :D

  17. Kenny

Regarding this most recent video, sure sounds like the nice rumble of a V8 to me! Lets all keep in mind that I’m sure the audio will sound even better in our own homes. I think PD is going to blow up with the sales of GT5! To bad they aren’t publicly traded! 11/2/2010, can’t wait to lose sleep!!

  18. Kenny

I really can’t wait to play this game! Playseats and G27 is the perfect set up! Even playing GT5P never gets boring and the game experience is great!! Will be even better with GT5…I’ve never really wanted time to fly before…but I’d gladly give up the next 2 months to get my mitts on this game!! Anyway, I’ll be waiting with the commoners. Peace!

  19. OneIsDifferent

Listened the video again at home with better audio and I have to say it is better than the average sounds in GT BUT. They are just too low pitched I think, sounding a little like they’d run on diesel or something. Rumble is there pretty good but can’t really get the feeling that there’s this high revving NASCAR V8 in that car. The sound in the video is also adequate so can’t really blame it for how it sounds. Still room for improvements in my opinion, but like I’ve said, quite a lot made already.

    1. McSmith

I always wonder why people love nascar so much, and especially why so many people on gtplanet sound like they think it’s fun. Those races are going to be really really boring. And if you want to get 100% completion you’ll have to do nascar races:( The game could probably be released a lot earlier if they let out all the nascar stuff…

    2. rocketcaron

Pure ignorance McSmith. Nascar on ovals is boring to watch on tv, I will agree to that. But if PD did it right, it will be loads of fun drafting with 16 peoples for 25-30laps!

By the way, something that could change your mind about Nascar; go check Jacques Villeneuve at Road America this year on Youtube.

  20. Craigles

Cockpit view is far far to quiet. It sounds like a rx8 in gt4 (in the cockpit) love the noise in chase cam though

    1. Paulo

I would love if he slowed down and came to a stop and feathered the throttle, just to see how that thing sounds in the lower RPM range.

  21. dearlybeloved

@twinsparks24… u r absolutely right. the ‘stickers’ are digital. I did not notice that until you mentioned it. I have the EX503 and I wish that it included that little feature. Still the game is sounding good even with all the ambient noise being shoved around.

    1. acevt06

i just want to know if they are still trying to get porche.. Are they??? Huh why are they being so ******* stubborn.

    2. terminator363

I have a feeling we might be surprised at TGS or the release, remember the ‘Ring documentery thing, they said “Sabine Schmitz is racing in a Porsche” (PD needs a liscens to say that, don’t they????)

    3. tommy

They wouldn’t need a license to say the word Porsche in a video. The license would only be needed to feature anything about Porsche in their game.
Im hopeing they get it, I really want a damn Carrera GT.
But im sure if your just looking for the Porsche in terms of look they’ll probably have Ruf, any time a company cant get Porsche they usually go to Ruf.

      @Gulyo
      Stop with the trolling.

    4. magic ayrton

Porsche have lost the Plot, too stuck up their own A*****s for this game, when actually they should be kissing pd’s arse to get into it!!!

    5. Bernd

I’m fine with RUF, except we won’t get the legendary race-cars, like the 917 or 956. The Carrera GT also is one of my dream-cars :-)

  22. David (PSN: KopparbergDave)

    *ever

P.S. I do love the camera shake, really adds to the immersion I think, but I’m worried it’s only going to be for the cockpit cam… I use the ‘bumper’ cam which is actually about identically placed to the cockpit cam but minus the car interior. I really hope the camera shake is on this view as well. Maybe even an option to turn it on and off would be cool.

  23. David (PSN: KopparbergDave)

I think the reason he couldn’t keep up was because he was only aver at about 3/4 full throttle, look at the accelerator indicator on the bottom right!

  24. R35-Vspec

Man it’s been a while since I’ve heard the GT countdown (3,2,1 START) sound. It brings back the memories !!

  25. tommy

Holy damn, just listen to those tires squeal. Anyone else notice this or were you to busy listening to the engine?
    Those tire sounds are fantastic.

  26. Cyclo

My Playseat Evolution should arrive next week. Prologue and F1 2010 should quench my racing thirst until November. :)

    1. reece22345

no they’re stuck on the screen – a random invisible guy is just fading them in and out and changing where the sticker is on the tv.

What a stupid question, of course they’re digital. And super annoying.

  27. Magic Ayrton

This seems to sound real good considering the sound source (music in background reduced etc..)

I thought the Ferrari at Monza sounded awful though, especially at low revs.. Really hope that they have sorted proper turbo bov sound and the whooshing you get when you accelerate hard with a big turbo.. lag etc..

    Still can’t wait though :D

3D rolling road would be a good idea too!!

  28. Mr Frappy

Sounds very good I have to say, a bit “rough” through my crappy PC speakers, but I guess that’s a good thing, right?!

The only thing I didn’t like about what I saw there was the huge gap that opened up which seemed impossible to close.

    1. Denur

I noticed the same. In the first two corners I lost over 2 seconds on the pack ahead (first time in a NASCAR, so had to learn the car’s behaviour), and the next sectors I kept losing a few tenth of a second per sector. That is probably due to both lack of slipstream and taking bad driving lines.

    2. Mr Frappy

Yeah, I guess once you get used to the car and are able to get moderately close, slipstreaming will take effect and you’ll be able to progress.

    3. iLex

It looks challenging indeed, which is cool. Although if GT5 is anything like GT4, I’d say some simple tuning will ‘fix’ that.

    4. dalejrfanfreak

Well he was racing on Professional, with no assists, and he couldn’t tune the car so can’t say I’m surprised he couldn’t keep up with the leaders. Plus on the first lap he was in 4th gear in turn 1 and it hurt his exit.

  29. GTP_african_kat

Unfortunatly still needs work. The street cars need the most work – the bottom of the rev range sounds nice – the top sounds too ‘computer generated’ and the limiters need work. Electronic limiters sound more ‘violent’ and sound the same even in higher gears. In GT the limiter ‘slows down’ when u limit in the higher gears. They’ve had a long time to do this so it seems they just arent very good in this area. I’m a GT fanatic but i’ll admit that Forza has better engine sound replication.

    1. Magic Ayrton

Forza 2 had better engine sound.. no wind sound though which I love in GT5… I think that the sounds onboard are realistic, but the Honda NSX type R in Gran turismo 5 Prologue is a HUGE dissapointment.. sounded similiar but with a cheese grater sound added.

  30. Keyz13

anyone complaining about sound probably doesn’t know how to hold an oversteer in a 160 mph corner. GT4 sounded awesome! Cause the sound told me what the car was doing.

  31. RobGroove

I’d like to see a little contact between the cars, I wonder if anyone managed to keep up with the pack. Also there’s only 8 cars?????????

    1. Bernd

Yeah, I noticed that too. Despite driving between 270-300 km/h most of the time he couldn’t catch up. That was some serious AI

    2. fruit.eater

yes 8 cars in this demo, we have already seen 16 nascar field before, use your head stop being dumb 16 cars on track is confirmed for multiplayer too

    3. dalejrfanfreak

Hey Fruit.Eater, he’s not being dumb, a lot of the footage showing 16 cars on the track is either from Prologue or from B-Spec mode videos. If it’s all been confirmed why don’t you show us some NEW gameplay videos showing someone racing in a-spec mode in a 16 car field. Confirmation from the gaming media is also welcome. All the footage I saw from Gamescom and E3 showed only 8 car fields.

    4. fruit.eater

that was gameplay, a replay of GAMEPLAY, not a premade trailer or computer generated movie, it was GAMEPLAY.

    5. iLex

The video could very well be a B-spec replay.

Why B-spec would allow for 16 cars and A-spec only for half of that is beyond me, though.

  32. SEIDO463

It sounds better than I expected.
Also the camera shake is looking good too.

Looking forward to hearing some other cars.
Mostly a rexy…DIRT 2 really got the sound down
    for the WRX.

    1. Mr Frappy

@fruit.eater, yes, we have seen 16 cars on track, but only in Prologue. The cars in Prologue, while nice looking and with cockpits, are not the same quality as the premium models.

So, we have yet to see 16 premium cars on track. I would have thought that a big oval like that would have had the full 16 on track because look how empty it is otherwise. Maybe there is a limitation, and 16 really is only for the standard cars. I hope not.

    2. fruit.eater

im not gonna argue, i already posted a video of a replay of ACTUAL GAMEPLAY of 16 premium cars on track. GT5 info says online: 16 players. Prologue had 16 cars which are basically a tiny bit less detailed than GT5 premiums. If you want we can exchange info and make a bet about it, im willing to throw $100 down.

    3. Bosnianblood10

dude relax … this is not even a real demo yet. If they got full license to NASCAR that means they will have all the cars on the track once the real version comes. They just want it to show it on the gamescom. graphics and physics. you can say this is beta version of gt … this is gonna be amazing game im telling you sounds and everything. they will have everything that forza has and more ….. lot moreeeeee

  33. Bobert!

What the eff? Are you guys serious?

Engine sounds are still lacking! Please go search ‘onboard NASCAR’ and you’ll see what im talking about… what a disappointment.

I wish someone would ask Kaz directly why the sounds in GT sucks… has it ever been asked before? i wanna see a video..

    1. GTbyPlaystation

      Calm down dude…
This is being filmed from a camera. You know how hard it is to record sound with all those distractions and people talking in the background. The sound is bad because of the recording by the camera.

    2. context

This was actually recorded with a direct connection I believe. Apparently the sound of the cars was altered and boosted to make it more up front, because the music was not able to be turned off or turned down.

    3. Yaycandy69

Well its a Nascar…..Car. We can live with crappy Nascar engine sounds. EA Sports had crappier engine sounds. At least PD made a huge improvement with the Nascars then what EA did with them

    4. ithis

      @Bobert!
I just did what you said. went and watched a few onboard nascar videos. The sound is exactly the same (for me) except for the tire sounds, which were not there in the real thing, or much less pronounced. If anything, a couple of videos I saw had worse, more muffed sounds than in GT.

    5. Bobert!

Check out iRacing’s NASCAR COT. They have the sound pretty good :) i wish PD was atleast this close. And also search some videos with radio chatter from the driver, you can get the some idea on what it actually sound from the drivers point of view.

    6. Geo_212

They are still lacking, but not too much. The only problem is that it’s too muffled in the cockpit view. If they “cleared” up the sound and added some attack to it, they’d be spot-on.

  34. OneIsDifferent

The engine sounds in this video have improved miles and miles from where they started! Good job from the developers. Though, I’m still afraid that cars like Zonda, Ferrari’s and Lamborghinis make sounds not on par with their real life counterparts – chances are that they’re not even close…

I know I’m skeptic here but Polyphony have had quite amount of chances to improve their sound production. The worst example are turbo cars which’ve sounded like leaking pressured air throughout the whole series. No real life-like exhaust gas driven turbo spool and whistling dump valves when the driver lifts.

At least it is now clear that the NASCAR part of this game has the sounds, at least somewhat matching the real thing. I hope the others will be better than the last ones too but all the same, title to await!

  35. mcknight8279109

    engine sounds great now
i wanna hear a toyota supra with a 2jz engine with turbo BOV etc on the game only then we will all know GT have successfully mastered the sound lol
i just have a feeling the final build will blow our minds even more so than this
i bet the launch trailer will leave us all speechless

  36. yomamma

great sound! can’t wait to hear turbo cars, blow off valves, superchargers, VTEC (yeah thats right), diesels, electrics and hybrids (if you can hear them at all), etc

    1. acevt06

Im kind of scared about this, you know PD are very pale with their turbo sound, this also has to do with customization, different BOV’s like tial and greddy causes different sounds, i can only keep my fingers crossed until the game comes out :?

  37. DirtyMudFlaps

The engine sounds now have that grunty roar (idk, only way i could explain it) iv always wanted from GT… Great Job PD

    1. yaycandy69

sleeping all day does make time go alot faster for those couple days before november 2nd. Then you will be fully rested to play gt5 for 2days without sleep. Good Stradegy

    1. Rotard12a

@blademask if only the tool driving in this video stayed in that view for more than 3/4’s of a second…

    2. FlareKR

For the second time for a game, my ears have cried happy tears (the first was the Ferrari in Monza). Awe-shocking sound! Now I really wanna drive a NASCAR!

    1. ICEMAN_ZIDANE

Now EVERYTHING is like in the real life , everything is 1:1
      Tracks , Cars and Sounds
2 November will by my favorite day

    2. DarkOwlFAU

Wow, super realistic…Dale Jr. is even disappointingly slow in the game too! Unbelievable how much depth they put into GT5!

    3. blademask

      acevt06:

People like you annoy the ever loving hell out of me. You remind me of the little spoiled girls who get a BMW 330 for their birthday, the complain that its not an M3. No no, You remind me of the little girl who gets a Enzo, then complains about the color.

I mean this site is plagued with each and every news entry having some person whining about a mininmal feature in the face of the gigantic scope of GT. At this point, why not just stick to another racing series, and give up on Gran Turismo? If everything in GT5 is dwarfed by: painting a pikachu on your car, & damage, why even bother posting. And if its not that important, why even bother posting?

When you’re watching car reviews, or Top Gear, are they complaining because they can’t paint & wreck the cars? No, because most people don’t have the urge to put a useless body kit on a car then write “PIMPS UP HOEZ DOWN” on the side.

Customization would be great to have, but how are you going to just ignore the strive to perfection for everything else for it? As if the game loses quality. The series isn’t about it, and never has been.

    4. terminator363

      @blademask

Good reply, thanks for showing everybody their feeling against spammers, the ones who complain.

    5. acevt06

@Blademask When i talk about customization i mean tuning the cars!!! Not stupid dumb *** bodykits and other retarded ricer things, i mean deep engine tuning bro, thats what im all about!!! Not about some stupid vynal or decal, im talking about what improves performance bro. Tuning your vehicle is just as important as the car itself, but im srry for not saying that in the beginning about the car tuning NOT RICER THINGS, engine tuning and certain exhuast mods change sound quality…

    6. blademask

      acevt06,

      cheerfully withdrawn then :-)

However GT has very deep car tuning?… suspension+camber+heel+toe/engine+ecu/brakes+balance/aerodynamics/gear ratios/??

      Kinda like the previous games.

    7. acevt06

Yeah but, why is that in “Gt4” you could make a supra 840hp, and a corvette only 500hp…. and you could not turbo it. Not to be like a spammer but forza has a better car tuning list, i just hope that GT5 does it better, **** forza!!!!!!!!!!!

    8. acevt06

@Blademask Also what about deep engine tuning, i dont want to regular stage 3 tune, i want to mess with the cams pistons rods valves retainers, valve springs alllll that, “Tuning is Just as important as the car itself!!!” FACT
