Just as we took a closer look at the new Top Gear Test Track revealed in the E3 2010 demo, it’s now time to move on and see what the updated Rome circuit has to offer. Here’s a collection of stunning 18-megapixel screenshots (they make great desktop wallpaper!) and plenty of gameplay videos (thanks for your help, SrRd RacinG). If you find any clips I’ve left out, please share the link in the comments below.

For a trip down memory lane, here’s an excellent lap of the old Rome circuit in Gran Turismo 3 with a TOM’s Castrol Supra, driven by our own Hugo Boss.

    @ Hugo Boss

Ahh sweet memories of a great course :-D

Absolutely great lap, i myself could do that lap just like you… oh wait no i couldn’t lmfao.

It’s amazing to see how much improvement has been made over the years though, perhaps when the game finally does come out lets see how Hugo would compare to his original lap :-D

Actually wouldn’t that be good with every GT player?

When we see the list of courses see how you did in the old games and compare them to the new. Merely a suggestion to everyone lol

  2. Jakemania

The ambulances looks laughably awful. Not that we would notice in-game, but I’d rather not have them there since they look like are little toy cars. Also, the tent supports are invisible and the Colosseum and some trees look a bit blocky.

Other than that, it looks fantastic.

  3. Devin

I love the improvements to the tire smoke, cant wait to white smoke my tires to the rim on my Camaro and ZR1! :)

  4. Fritz

20GB sound update please! I wonder if PD will introduce Premium sound. Whatever sound update they could generate that would cover all cars would probably be enough though, but something has to be done. They sound so meek and nasal and jetsons-like..not loud, obnoxious and terrifying

Anyway, with a track editor being a real possibility, its not a huge problem.

but there should most definitely be a camera-view editor!

    1. unkr3at1v

Cool, my real name is also Fritz! GRT2-like sounds would be great! Would also like to hear/see some backfire!

Track editor would be great, but I’m still suspicious of this news!

  5. tameem

having knowledge on how 3d modeling works, after looking at these 18mega pix shots, i would say its not too hard to model a track like Rome. If i was given a job to model a track like Rome I am sure i can knock it off in about 2 weeks.

    1. Geo_212

Let’s not be mean, here… I never play GT1, 2, 3, or 4, only GT5 Prologue. It took only one race to get me hooked!

    2. turismo_san

Sure is a shame. I still remember the first time I played GT1, stayed up till 6am then went to work at 8am.

  6. guy

Well done to Hugo Boss for driving the Supra! Really gives an idea of the thrill that we will have on those new tracks. Really scary fast at times, so narrow

  7. hatrix

What camera view was it in the first vid? It looks like roof cam…. and no hood cam >:( noooooooooooooooooo
If they are not going to put cockpit view for the standard cars, I want at least a hood cam, not a roof cam. Roof cam is completely useless and too high for driving.

    1. hatrix

crap it is a roof view… the last vid with the benz is also a roof cam (although we can only see the hood, but you can tell it is way too high to be a hood level)

    2. Nato_777

What’s with the roof cam anyway, it’s useless for anything really – I’ve never used it (not even for replays)! They definitely need to scrap that and make it a hood cam. The bumper cams ok but it’s much better and more realistic to be looking out over the bonnet.

  8. Frezza

I want more tracks like Mugello, Albert Park, Gilles Villeneuve, Charade Circuit, Circuit Park Zandvoort, Donington Park, Spa, N-Ring (the one where they drive the F1 now), the Ascari Race resort track. Tracks with much much much more character than these dull Rome, Paris, London, Tokyo tracks…

other than that…its looking quite nice

    1. aelange

I think if PD aspire to have the most cars they can, then they should think about having the most tracks, too! But think about this for a second; on the Home screen of GT5P, when it shows all of the weather and temps of the different areas of the world, they show some pretty interesting tracks.
      Now every real world track that GT4 had and is confirmed for GT5, they show the weather, that is;
      Suzuka
      Le Mans
      Monte Carlo
      Monterey
      Sonoma
      Daytona Beach
      Fuji
      Motegi
      Nurburg and
      Tsukuba.
Those are all either in GT4 or confirmed GT5 tracks. Now the REAL interesting part is the other tracks, perhaps just fodder? Or a taste of things to come?
      Magny Cours
      Imola
      Jerez!!
      Hockenheim
      Estoril!
      Zolder
      Shanghai
      Silverstone
      SPA!!
      Brands Hatch!!!1! and
      Monza!!

I didn’t notice Valencia but I’m to believe that’s a confirmed track for GT5. These are of course my presumptions, but they seem mighty eerie…

    2. Il Venturetto

I’d like to see Jarama too. It was made by the same designer of Suzuka and it has appeared on other games as well

  9. DarthStig1

Although these new tracks look interesting, I can’t wait to see all the tracks – I am sure they would have improved on the GT5P tracks. I particularly like the way the tracks have been rendered, showing much more undulations or track elevation etc – ie the effect of going uphill/downhill is much better, whereas in GT5P the tracks were somewhat ‘flat’

  10. Stu

‘They are clearly designed to keep everything under wraps.’

I agree, it is absolutely clear PD are showing the odd feature here and there but holding the total package.

Do people not realise these limited demos are what they say on the tin………………demos!

  11. Andre

Why all in those videos people bad drivers? maybe they don’t drive car in real life? Or maybe Gran Turismo 5 is arcade racing game, or fake driving phisics? can you explain me?

  12. Geo_212

Did anyone else notice that, in the Rome picture with the Colosseum (if that’s spelled right), the only car that has a shadow is the white 458 Italia (in the front)? The lighting of the cars looks to me like they’re photo-shopped in… I’m not saying it’s bad or anything, just kinda weird.

  13. viejaloca

That guy in the first vid is a great driver! So is the GT3 Rome video. In my opinion, I could care less about sparks, but hey if we have them, great. The off-road looks awesome! did anyone notice the little chunks of dirt and hay flying off the tires?

  14. ErrDiabolo

I HATE those sparks…. looks like someone at PD thought it was a good idea to bring a metal grinder to work that day. And that sense of speed needs a bit of tweaking, and I already gave up about the sounds… basically everything outside of Japan sounds like absolute crap. The GTR is true to life, the JGTC cars sounds perfect… but cant get a Ferrari or any v8 for that matter to sound right… a damn shame

    1. unkr3at1v

You aare totally right about the sounds!
IMO the car game with best sounds was GTR 2, which is still one of my favorite racing games, beside GT and GT Legends which also has very nice sounds!

    1. CaptinKeezey

Yeah if you watch some of the e3 floor coverage they say they sped it up to exaggerated the effect and show it off.

  15. Nero9

PD yet again fails to give us Rome fans what we wanted…the OLD Rome. This new Rome is like Hong Kong. Boring, monotone, this Rome is just…worse.

  16. TankKiller

    Hi guys

I just read on to german ps3 news websites that PD confirmed cockpit view for the standard cars. They got it via email from PD.
Maybe Jordan can make things clear on that.

    1. Steph290

I heard the same thing last week. PD say all cars WILL have cockpit view, just that the standard ones will be less detailed than premiums. The quality will still be above anything else on the shelf now.

  17. Steph290

I’m taking a bet that the sparks were a last minute pitch in for the demos. Most likely the guys at PD will either edit them or remove them altogether for the release. And I’m sure they didn’t remove backfire or the glowing disc breaks we all love. They wouldn’t spend 6 years to screw it all up now. What would be nice is if they simulate wind blowing through trees. Thats something they should work on.
On a side note – I wish someone would record a proper lap!

  18. PeterWRC

6 million people talking about GT5 on different forums. A lot of people are against the features, graphics, etc…others are madly loves it. But all of the 6 millions people will buy it when its hit the shops, after they will start an other agreement about the GT. I couldn’t understand. If someone likes GT5, go on,lets get it. If someone doesn’t happy with the game, there is an other way to drive hundreds of cars and paint them and crash them…FORZA. These news and videos from the GT5 are showing us what we have to wait. These things are done, the full version won’t be worst. So follow the news and try to don’t complain about minot things. Sparks. They shows sparks for us now. But in the game -possibly- we get cool flying paint peaces. Is it sound good? Yes. If we won’t get cool stuff, that will be it. I don’t think anyone will sell or don’t buy the game because of silly sparks. The GT5 will be a good game on its own way. Maybe i will buy it, I really think I will. But because of seriously much negative comments and sad opinions I’m not 100% sure about the realistic and quality of the GT. And I’m not the only one! Sorry my english isn’t great!

    1. viejaloca

So true man. But I think people are being too picky, so I think GT5 will be the best car game ever.

    2. Nato777

Yes Kaz is a victom of his own quest for perfection, now everyone has impossibly high expectations for GT5 and then complain bitterly when those seemly are not met. I think we should give the man and the team at PD a break – they are pouring their heart and soul into this game and despite any minor niggles we might have with it in the finish it will be the greatest driving/racing car ever (until GT6).

    3. Nato_777

My apologies to Nato777, I left out the _ in my name and accidently posted under yours.

  19. deathcabdan

Compare the shadows of the cars in the first pic to the last pic, both being overhead shots…the first pic is really glitchy.

  20. toz

where’s the backfire from the exhaust? glowing disc brakes? did PD forget to add these effects into GT5?

  21. GtFan

I don’t know if anybody else has noticed this, but it’s been a pet hate of mine ever since GT1, but I knew they couldn’t do anything about it back then. It’s the clouds in the sky, they move when you go round a corner, or anywhere really. In real life if you’re driving and you look out the window, the clouds don’t move, they seem static as you move. In GT, the sky and the horizon all move about, like some giant piece of wallpaper stuck to a cardboard cutout. It realy spoils the illusion and feeling of depth. look at vid 2, the sky sometimes takes up 2/3rds of the screen on the rally track. so it matters to me. Rant over.

  22. lez67

i’m sure the with all the things pd have put into the game that a cockpit view will be in standard cars, you can’t call it a simulator if only 200 cars have cockpit view, even if it is a simple version of the interior on 800+ cars but i do think sony should confirm it

  23. Whatbrown

I really wish they would just leave the spectators out if they are going to be 2d. The ones that are trackside and 3d look good, but the ones in the grandstands really ruin the overall look of an otherwise beautifully rendered track.

  24. Liam

mm guys, I think they get people who suck at this game so they don’t let you see how good the physics really are, if you know what I mean. Oh and is it just me, or should the gear shift be a bit more of a jerk reaction type of animation, not some calm, slow motion gear change? 0_0 Oh btw, ENGLAND WON 1-0 WHOOOOOOOO :P

  25. Mickle Pickle

I hope the Paris circuit will be back… so far we haven’t seen any pictures of it… I also want the night paris track, which is very similar in nature to the current London track…

    Anyone second that?

    1. unkr3at1v

I think Iron Maiden still didn’t get it!
This Camaro is a Premium car, like many people already responded!
And the damage is just turned off!
Because Standard cars will also have damage Iron Maiden, just no dislocated body parts!
So your last comments can just be ignored Iron!!

  26. CeeJay

Everything looked so awesome until those horrible exaggerated sparks in the second video. Yikes. Way too over the top. That is one weird effect to see in a GT game. That looks more suited for a Ridge Racer game instead of a simulation.

    1. Nemesis

@HenGTX: Order it on amazon.co.uk It’s what I do. It’s cheaper to let them send it, It usually takes about 2 days.

    1. JayKayEm

The GT3 clip has got me all sentimental. Man that brings back memories. I used to push the Alfa 155DTM round there just as hard.

      Awesome!

    1. Bernd

Looks like a glitch, hehe. Also, I wouldn’t like to stand on that platform, as it’s connection to the crane seems a bit weak

  27. Iron Maiden

Well guys, the person driving the camaro hits the wall at least 3 times right on the front of the car, yet the hood is intact. That does it for me. Unless someone shows us a car selection screen with the 2010 camaro that says “premium” at the bottom left corner, then I’ll believe it.

    @Hot-wok
That’s based on a (possibly crappy) translation. They had some crappy cars in GT5P **cough** Cappuccino **cough*cough** and they all had interior views. They won’t be as precise (every stitching on the dashboard, shifter, etc) for standard cars but for premium cars, those cars will look like the real deal.

@Marcus/Berlino Bear – Premium cars will surely have their hood deformed (since premium have full damage model, not just dislocating body panels and bumpers), unlike the camaro in the 3rd video, hence the fact the camaro is a standard car.

    1. Nemesis

      @Iron Maiden
I’d agree. I don’t think they’d add cars which would be less detailed than GT5P?

If you go to the following (official GT5) website: http://eu.gran-turismo.com/gb/news/d13413.html

Under the heading “Updated and Included from Previous Series…” there is a movie which is called standard E3 cars. So there were standard cars at E3.

On page 4 there is a picture of a nissan fairlady underwhich the details of the damage levels are explained clearly. The question offcourse remains what PD classifies as a dent.

Now please can we stop this eternal moaning about standard cars not being as expected without having any actual details.

    2. derStig

Have you seen a SINGLE user-played video from E3 in ANY of the premium confirmed cars that have damage? No-damage was not turned on in the E3 demo release for players to use, it was only shown in the E3 trailers. Honestly, look at all given facts and data before jumping to a conclusion.

  28. Iron Maiden

In the 3rd video, that’s a new camaro. You can clearly see that there isn’t any damage done to the hood (and he drives in it fairly quickly). That means that it’s not premium and I can’t help but notice he’s using the interior view. Even after a lot of beating, the hood of the car is fine.

No Damage = Not Premium Car
yet, it still has interior view. This means all cars have interior view.

    1. SEIDO463

It’s been said that not all races will include damage. I read that on this site, posted by this site or either on the official GT site.

Also, maybe there are certain levels of damage that can be turned on or off.

  29. DarthStig1

Mr KY has mentioned a few comments in his tweets, quite separatory i’d say…could we see the GT series venturing down a new road in future…?

  30. jerone

the gt3 engine sfx sound much better than that Ferrari. pd need to work at this seriously. have u heard a real Ferrari? that is ridiculous

    1. Blinkwing

there is a difference, from where you hear a ferrari.
when u are on the hood, there cant be to much sound, because the human ear won’t catch sounds from the in-the-back-placed-engine, or the exhaust, it will catch sounds from cars in front of you. And the sounds of those haven’t been heard yet.
Also remember, that the audio is being washed out from the TV-Screen –> Youtube

  31. Mr Skyline

i noticed that the sound of the cars is allot more realistic since previous demo versions, thats great 8-)

    1. Amsterdam NL 020

OI haven’t noticed this doesn’t sound like the 458 Italia one bit this really sucks. The Carsounds is Forza 2 are even better than this crap and don’t tell me it’s because its made with a camera.

The SLS AMG sounds a lot different in real life.
I guess it’s not going to be any better.

  32. DarthStig1

Regarding the ‘leaked’ info about the game, KY was apparently disappointed because it was KY who was supposed to release it. However, I think it was translated so we can’t be sure about the new features. I think we should wait to here it from the respected man himself.

    1. Wolgibkay07

Really there is nothing we can do, so we just need to wait for what we’ll have at the final product.

    1. Wolgibkay07

      Paulo,
Yea you are right, but it’s difficult to find a person who would be really good driving a new gt5 handling engine and in some vids people crash to find out, if the is any damage.
But yea you are mainly right. :D

  33. Jamaicangmah

Does GT5 have muffler backfire? I loved that from GT4 and greatly missed it in GT5p. Can anyone confirm?

    1. Wolgibkay07

      Pranl,
It looks more realistic, because the cockpit moves around and the sound is alright. Also at the end of the video we can see damage, which is coool :D

    2. Geo_212

GT5, in general, is the smoothest game I’ve seen in a long time, and it’s shaping up to be pretty good, except for engine sound and physics (at least, by the looks of the physics, I’m not a pro or anything :P).

BTW, are the physics real? Cause the cars look more slippery as opposed to real life.

  34. tommygt

Wolgibkay07 – 17 (rather confusing) posts and counting… you’re either a monumentally bored forza fanboy, or you accidentally put speed in your coffee this morning

    1. Wolgibkay07

No, I’m just soo bored and i am not a forza fanboy althrough I bought forza 2 and 3. I also have gran turismo 1, 2, 3, 4 prologue, 4 , 5 prologue and psp. So I’m kinda in the middle.

    2. Wolgibkay07

these cars are Premium. There will be two different classes of cars in gt5 premium and standard (basic was just my joke). :D

  35. Rasmus

Come on people, stop the bullsh*t about these cars being Premiums. We’re already been told by Sony or PD that the muscle cars are STANDARD cars. So the thing being said about the standard cars having black/dark tinted windows and not looking any better than GT4 is simply WRONG.

I mean, look at these pictures!! They look great! The Charger in these pictures looks just as good as any model in ex. Shift, GRID or Forza.

You can also easily tell that the cockpit inside those cars have been modeled, but the question still remains whether or not we will have a cockpit driving view.

    1. Wolgibkay07

      Rasmus,
So why did gran turismo sent us this vid with these cars in it. What these cars are basic not standard or what. There is a vid on this website which shows the list of cars in e3 demo and Charger is in the list of premium cars. I know that it’s good to imagine that standard cars will have cockpits, but it’s just imposible, it’s not true, it isn’t like that. I am sorry to ruin your and other gtfans’ dream.

  36. Mambo No 5

Well, if I remember correctly, it is the first time, we get to see the F40 in GT5. Or am I wrong ? :)
    *Dreaming of S6 GT5P event*

    1. Chris

D’oH. Just re-read your post. You mean the first time we’ve seen an F-40 in a GT5 video? I think it could well be yes ;)

  37. oscartron

Now that all the new features have been unearthed, it seems we got what we all wanted, but all it’s done is make everyone question whether it’ll be good or not now? What is wrong with you people, its coming and thats all that freaking matters. 5 years these guys have been working on this game, 5 YEARS THE POOR GUYS, and imo, they’ve done a superb, spectacular job, and it will be the best racing game ever. So shut up lol

    1. Wolgibkay07

Gt4 came out on December 28, 2004 in Japan meaning you could buy it there as I did (while being n holidays) !!! :D

    1. Wolgibkay07

      HenGTX,
I enjoy too driving cars from 1888 with my friends. Racing at 11 kph (normal people run faster). LOL :D

  38. Nemesis

Would yo people stop nagging about the standard and premium cars and be happy with what you get…

The game looks amazing right? So stop nagging and if you don’t like the standard cars use the 200+ premium cars. Before having driven all of these GT6 will be out.

How many games do you know of this level of detail which provides 200+ high detailed cars?

    1. Bernd

You’re absolutely right with that ! My GT4 garage is stuffed with more than 800 cars, only about 50 are my favorites. So, I’m fine with these 200 premium, but I’ll like the 800 others just as much, because cockpit-view isn’t too important for me

  39. andre

no standart cars don’t have cockpit view, tiny windowed all cars it’s ugly this is no good this is very bad situation right now. pd need to remove standarts cars from the game.

  40. GaBe_LoGaN

Say something that is false 1000 times, and it will be true.

Maybe this is the point about all those whiners =) Throw shit over GT

  41. andre

remove those standars cars from the game and realise more real world tracks better thats what all gt5 fans wants ok.

    1. Marcus

half agree. If it turns out that no cockpits are included then yes they should have put resources into getting more tracks and premium cars. If it turns out they are just a bit less detailed than premium cars then i don’t agree. Only time can give us an answer

    1. Wolgibkay07

      Forza 3, 2 years 400 cockpits. GT5, 6 years 200 cockpits.
      Forza 200 cockpits per year.
Gran turismo 33 cockpits per year.
Wtf ? People in pd are lazy basrtards, which don’t want to work, cos i don’t see much of a difference between these two games.
I think it’s time to say:
Forza rocks, Gran turismo sucks. :D

    2. Wiretap

They didn’t spend 6 years ONLY making cockpits, so your “People in pd are lazy basrtards, which don’t want to work” comment really doesn’t stand true or make any sense!

    3. Wolgibkay07

      Chris and Wiretap,
well now I am playing gt5 prologue,so the statementof Chris is wrong and WiretapI means saying that they had too much time to complete the game and I think that everybody will agree with me. :D

    4. Shane

wolgibkay, you’re right.. but have you noticed how crappy the cockpits look in forza? i was discusted when i saw them

    5. freeman140

forza might have cockpits on all cars, but they don’t look very well made. the colors look washed out, and the modeling doesn’t seem to be a one-to-one replica, like in gt. Modeling those things take a lot of time, and patience and in forza i think they didn’t give that much attention to the cockpits, and it shows. the difference between the detailed exterior of the cars, and the not so great cockpits is noticable. On the other hand, in gt5 its obvious that the attention was put on the whole car exterior and cockpits. with that said, each cockpit in gt5 is worth like 10 cockpits from forza.

    1. Mickle Pickle

I hope this is the kind of photo we will be able to produce in the photo mode… 18MPIX, here we are?!! Can anybody confirm that… will totally bites the small restrictive size of FM3…

  42. king

I absolute dont like the stupid sliding of the cars with the “iiiiiiiiihhhhhhh” of the wheels … that sucks!
The rest of the game loooks just amazing !

  43. CaptinKeezey

    (Standard vs Premium) related

Ok one of those pictures clearly shows the very detailed model of a Corvette Stingray Convertible. Now in the official PD Standard car video there is a Corvette Stingray Coupe. Now if the Corvette Stingray Convertible from the pic is a “Standard” car then the whole idea of them being less detailed can be killed completely as that model is damn perfect. And if it isn’t a “Standard” model then it begs the question why PD didn’t just use the Corvette Stingray Convertible model and chop the top off for the Coupe version?

    1. Big Ron

No one said, that the standard cars look like GT4. That is a rumor of the community. Also the standard cars looks great.

But all the kiddies are crying about the word “standard” and “GT4 conversion”

    2. Bernd

That’s right, so called standards are as beautiful and shiny as the premium cars. We’ll see the differences in the interior soon, I guess

  44. Shameonblues

Ferrari’s sound is awful… GT5 is beautiful but i can’t get ride off hearing such vacuum cleaner sound! Whereas Forza did a good job this way…

    1. Marcus

they do and i am a massive fezza fan huge disappointment. However i am more concerned about lazy v8 cars. They just sound like someone sucking in air. Also the sound of the slr is godawful in real life it sounds like a thunder powered spitfire

  45. DrTrouserPlank

superb driving on Toscana in the second video. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone spin a car whilst moving so slowly before.

    1. Blinkwing

there are quite MINIMAL details, that let you see in screenshot 2 and 3, that it is a computer game.

  46. Paulie

I can’t wait to see more of the Standard Cars, particularly a driving video where the user tries to find a cockpit view so this debate can be ended once and for all.

  47. TokyoDrift

No surprise to hear people whining about the sparks…

Leave the game on the shelf if they bother you that much.

    1. Chris

I know, it’s getting ridiculous. Not just the whining about the sparks, but the crying and moaning in general. I love GTP but the GT5 forum these days is just full of unconstructive whinging that I can’t even bring myself to look at it anymore.

GT5 is what it is, if you don’t like it, don’t buy it!

    2. HenGTX

First of all, I’ll buy the game, in fact I pre-ordered it last week. And as soon as it comes out it will never leave my PS3, I played them all and i will play this one, cause it’s an awesome game/simulator and the best there is!!!!!!

For the rest, I am not a whiner, just saying that I find the sparks unrealistic. And if you say they are realistic then that’s your opinion.

But I will not leave it in the shelf because of some sparks.

    3. jerone

plus i fink pd do look at these forums so its not pointless whining. some of our requests could actually change the game

    4. HenGTX

Sparks and blood………..I see the similarity…lol…….just kidding

btw sparks in GT4 looked better (whine, whine)

    5. JWalker

Actually what’s ridiculous is not our complaints, but how fanboyism is getting out of control. Any kind of complain is being followed with response like “Leave the game on the shelf” or “don’t buy the game” or even “go play Forza”.
There is nothing wrong with complaints themselves, they all have a clear point. Just like those sparks that look like **** and they’re unrealistic. And if you say that those sparks look real… well we’re about to found a new religion that calls Kazmania.

  48. Faz

Much prefer the less rigid chase cam that GT3 & GTPSP employ. It’s the view I use when playing.

Please Kaz, for those who use it; loosen it, or at least set at option/slider where we could set the rigidity of it ourselves, so it doesn’t feel like we’re driving the track round a static car! It just doesn’t feel right. It’s probably only a small thing for most people in the grand scheme of things, but for me is my main/only issue. If it remains as is, then it’ll have to be the cockpit view for me.

Everything else; the graphics, features etc are bob on!

      Agree 100%.

    2. Mickle Pickle

I actually like how “rigid” the exterior behind the car view is… refer in GT5-Prologue!

I agree that at least Kaz should offer us the option to modify the rigidity of the 3rd perspective…

I noticed two things in the Gamersyde videos, in the Lambo one there is dammage on the car, you can see a part of the rear spoiler detaching also, nice physics, the guy crashes because he puts the inside wheel in the rut between the fence and the vibrator which makes the car spin. In the Subaru video at one point he crashes into a Lexus IS and makes it spin, you can see the AI car waits for an opportunity to rejoin instead of diving in front of oncoming cars. Small details, but it just shows that GT has come a long way.

    1. Wolgibkay07

Well really after me racing for several days online and then sitting back to Forza 3 and gt5p. I noticed the difference. In forza 3 they don’t fight back. Gt5p they are passive. In real online game you touch someone while you and your oponent going 185 mph you/he just fly out of the track. You can’t find that in any game. Also real players some times help/wait for you for the drafting and sleepstreaming. Real drivers get tired and don’t fight so much. Some real drivers don’t drive as fast as others (even with the same cars). They also fight against each other. They don’t wait for you when you crash, so it will be easier to win . It needs to be, so if you crash you stay at the place you are and lose if you need to. Like in real life.
I don’t think that sim games will ever get the AI to this lever, so I think iCyCo the best thing is to play online games for the real driving experience. :D

  50. Chris

Without doubt some of the most shocking driving yet seen in a GT5 video. Hugos lap on the other hand…driving god!!!

  51. Dom

Cool Videos, but wow, the GT3 game looks terrible in every possible way. Good that GT5 will be more realistic. Despite all the new features, the best thing about GT5 will be the cockpit view for at least 200 cars. The head tracking could be fantastic as well, if it works the way it should!

    1. IronM@sk

TrackIR (head tracking) is just another stupid gimik to sell expensive hardware. Seriously, when i’m playing GT and I turn my head, to the left I see curtains and to the right I see a stairwell and cupboards.

In order for head tracking to work you HAVE to keep your eyes on the screen while you turn your head, which is not a natural movement and makes it a pointless stupid gimik.

      Head-tracking: DO NOT WANT
3D (another gimik): DO NOT WANT

  52. FDM73

Looks very good. All details around the track are very realistic, they made all the boardings, cranes and ambulances just like it would be in a reallife streetrace.

I am glad to see the elevation in the track, the Gt3 track missed that, this gifs a good Rome feel.

Overall the tracks of GT5 are looking fantastic and I can’t wait to finaly see the full London track.

  53. Maxiboy

Why do ALL the lucky bastards getting to play the demo SUCK?!? Get the GT3 driver out there to give it a go!

    1. HenGTX

Why are they inviting people who don’t give a damn. If they would, they played GT before and they know you will have to brake before corners. Why don’t invite people who care….

    2. Hugo Boss

^^I’m still available. Don’t even need to get paid for it…

I really love how the GT series is evolving. Cannot wait to experience the new physics with all these cars. The sound isn’t giving me goose bumps yet, although it’s definately a step up from Prologue. Nice to hear that transmission in the ASL.

Also thank you Jordan for bringing up my old lap again! Definately one of the tracks I enjoyed most. PD, could you please make this track available as DLC? ;-)

  54. Bernd

Wuhahahaha, some of the worst drivers ever. Even my Guineapig laughed it’s ass off while watching this !

    1. GasolineJunkie

At least they’re playing the game while you’re playing with your Guineapig! LOL.

I think we sometimes forget that it took all of us some time to master driving techniques in this game.

  55. EVL GSR

This is looking better and better each day

if you have a look at the picture of the front of the orange Dodge Charger you will see the windows are not tinted and the driver is clearly visible as well as the steering wheel and what looks like a minor detailed interior dashboard

maybe thats what some of the standard cars interiors will look like assuming this is a standard car

    1. Guffaluff

      @Rasmus

You can see in the car selection video from E3 that it’s a premium car. All the muscle cars on the screenshots are premium.

  56. eckenflitzer

AI still crashes into you, the Ferrari-sound is like the often quoted vacuum cleaner (i believe you can guess the sound quality, even its recorded at an exhibition with low quality and so on). Hm, i am missing the atmosphere of a real race, GT5 looks and feels for sure fantastic, but it´s so sterile (skidmarks anyone? =) ). I hope the car “dirtening” makes it better. Anyway, lets see the final version.

  57. sidsid118

its all coming along nicely, shame the driving in the 3rd video isnt very good! i always thoughts the arrows indicate a turn is near, not an invitation to slam into it.

  58. Zenith

    Offroad GT-R? heh

Just a bunch of new vids :P
Although it is nice to see the sparks, gravel, and hay effects

    1. IronM@sk

Not only that, but apparently 2 cars rubbing panels while travelling at the same speed causes an angle grinder type effect in between them. I’m sorry, but I watch my fair share of tin-top racing, from Aussie V8 Stupidcars to FIA GT, WTCC etc. and i’ve never seen such sparks between vehicles.

I seriously hope they remove that crap from the game before release.

    2. Wolgibkay07

In impreza vid the smoke is just awesome. Can you imagine the drift trial with several cars. + some tire drawings (skid marks). Only one word: astonishing !:D

    3. Ralf

yeah they should definitely remove the sparks when two vehicles moving at the same speed are making contact. they should only appear if a vehicle makes contact with a barrier/wall.

    4. JayKayEm

      Sparks are a bit cheap.

We loose backfires and glowing brake discs (that I want back) and gain sparks? Work that logic out.

You need a tremendous speed difference to create sparks sufficient enough to make the particles glow red hot. Bumping another car is very arcade racer and not GT at all.

    5. aelange

To be honest, I’m surprised that PD has managed to get the sparks so wrong, considering the attention to detail on every other part of the game. Those sparks looks extremely arcade and look very out of place in a simulation game such as GT5 aspires to be. You never see sparks fly between 2 cars rubbing like that, at the very least the only sparks you would see are the ones coming from the chassis hitting the pavement, which of course could be a beautiful sight.

    6. mcknight8279109

lol for the people who say that the sparks look arcade-ish must’ve not looked at the fact that it was in arcade mode lol arcade mode has different stuff than simulation mode if im not mistaken and its been that way since GT1 lol i remember trial mountain on arcade mode had steeper hills on the straight in the forest so that you could jump higher but in simulation mode they were gone lol and it took me forever to find out why it was like that.
And maybe this is of the same nature, in simulation mode they might not be there

  59. Andre

Great videos and nice track! Although I’m happy to realise that cars sound much better than GT4 and most games on the market, it’s still too far from real life. I wounder how can an old game, like Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed still has better engine sound effects than recent games?!? Strange, isn’t it?

    1. Marco

I don’t think the sounds are far from real life. Almost all the cars sound exactly like they do in real life. For example I know the 147 ti sounds exactly the same because I drive a real one.

    1. Damo

i’m not sure if you’ve realised, but there has been no damage to any of the cars from any of the videos from E3. the damage model doesn’t seem to have been implemented in this build… which might be a good thing – we don’t want PD giving everything away at once, before the release… they’ve already given us several tracks and cars, as well as day-night transition!

    2. Wolgibkay07

The track is alright, but they need to put some waving flags like in supr gt (in real life)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhHuuT5zmVE&feature=related . It gives a lot more realistic look to the gameplay and the replays.
Still gt5 is cool, but nothing will stop me from crying after knowing, that there won’t be cockpits on the standard cars. What next. No custumisation for stanard cars or what. Jeez, this is just dissapointing !!! :-( :-( :-(
6 f.cking years and no cockpit wtf ?

    3. Wolgibkay07

and also if it’s possible on ps3, Please do some 3d spectators outside the track. I know, you need to do one spectator for at least 2 years, but please I can help you to do something. I know how to program 3d animation or skid marks from the cars. I can also help you with cockpit designing, but please get the f.cking game finished !

    4. Wolgibkay07

I basicly like gt5. It is the best driving game out there, but there are some simple things which need improvements. This things are small, but without them there is no perfection. Simple as that ! :D

    5. Kilborn230

      @ Wolgibkay

I guess some people are never pleased. I’m sure once these ideas you have are implemented into the next iterations you’ll have something else to complain about.

    6. Skidmark

I don’t know why everyone keeps moaning about the demos. They are clearly designed to keep everything under wraps.

The proper damage model doesn’t look like its on, there is no weather, no rollover etc….

These demos are just PD giving us the absolute minimum.

Otherwise none of the info released lately would have been such a nice surprise.

    7. ErrDiabolo

      @ oscartron

      You call that damage?

This is the demo though, as we will see the full damage model by game’s release time

    8. Ollie

@Wolgibkay07 Well done in pointing out PD’s shortcomings in the making of this game. If only you’d been there in the meeting where Kaz and the team decided they’d only port the 4000 polygon models of the cars from GT4 instead of spending another 7.7 million man hours(a serious estimation going by previous mootings by Kaz over the developement cycle) remodelling them all for the new game. I’m sure they’d have made a plaque for your office in PD as well as your own post room to store all your fan mail from fans of the game for delaying the game by another year or two. You would be a hero for that, especially as it would completely change the driving characteristics of the cars in this racing game.

You’d have had no time to read all your letters though as you’d be busy doing the important job of using up all the resources and memory in the PS3. Who cares if with all those extra polys on the cars you can only have 4 of them racing because the crowd looks fantastic!! Even better, on a 24hr race let’s use up more memory and graphical crunching to putting 25,000 skidmarks on the track per car.

PD, if you’re listening, you need Wolgibkay07. You might need to go back to the drawing board, but when GT5 is released in 2013, it’ll be the best darn game ever!

    9. Jake

Damn i wish the WRC would start using those orange fences. They are so strong, PD, should tell us were they bought it from!
