GT Sport, FM7 and NFS Payback Hang On in UK Sales Charts

Another week of game sales has closed in the UK with decent performance in the racing genre. As one of the final shopping weeks before Christmas, it was always going to be interesting to see how the big titles could perform. In the end, it’s a combination of holds rather than gains.

The biggest story is unsurprisingly GT Sport. We commented in an earlier article that it was very possible that Polyphony’s latest entry might have ended up the best-performing exclusive in the region.

However, with the latest sales information, it seems like that will not be the case and Crash Bandicoot: N’sane Trilogy will likely pip it to the post. Coming in at 13th place, Sport dropped two positions from its previous hold the week before. Activision’s Crash trilogy placed in 11th, giving it a leg over GT Sport and likely taking the PS4 exclusive crown.

Considering this though, Sport has still done very well to sell strongly in the UK over the course of a few months. The undeniable charm of nostalgia was always going to be a mountain to climb and GT might just fall short.

Over on Xbox, it’s a slightly more positive story for Forza Motosport 7. The flagship racer moved up two positions from 20th into 18th. It’s the lowest placing racer of the notable racing titles but a nice jump none the less. Considering the mammoth Player Unknown’s BattleGrounds juggernaut landed on Xbox One last week too, it’s a considerably decent week for FM7.

Before you ask, yes, Forza Horizon 3 also returned to the top 40 list of sellers last week. Playground Games’ open-world racer punched its way up to 28th. It seems like you just can’t kill Horizon 3 in the UK.

Lastly, EA’s Need For Speed Payback continues to perform well in the region as well. The multiplatform title rose one position on the previous week by placing in 14th. With new DLC launching this week, Payback is just beginning its post-release support cycle. Players who buy in will be getting a host of free and premium content to enhance the game.
