Why Was GT5 Delayed in Japan?

As the news of GT5’s Japanese delay spreads across the web, one question persists: why? Here’s a closer look at each of the three possible reasons:

1.  Production Issues

News service Reuters reports that Sony has cited “production-related issues” as cause for the delay. However, if that’s true, this news must be coming as a surprise to Kazunori Yamauchi and his English translator. In his latest interview, filmed just four days ago, neither hesitated to confirm the March release window when it was mentioned. What catastrophic “production-related issue” could have unexpectedly occurred over the last few days to justify the postponement?

2. Gran Turismo 5’s Influence on Sony’s Financial Reports

Here’s an interesting theory put forth by the Times Online newspaper, whose “analysts” cite Sony’s corporate fiscal calendar to support their reasoning. Personally, I believe this theory has the most credibility – never underestimate the importance of financial statements to large corporations and their shareholders. If it is so important, though, why was this not taken into consideration before the March date was originally settled upon?

Analysts suspect that there may be a strategy behind the delay and that Sony is working to spread the effect of a strong games pipeline over a longer period. The recent Japanese launch of Final Fantasy XIII shifted many more PS3 consoles than expected and performed beyond expectations outside Japan.

If Sony felt that it had already met its console sales targets for its 2009 financial year, analysts said, it might want to push the GT5 launch back a little so that the frenzy surrounding its eventual launch would boost sales in the 2010 financial year. The company may be confident that titles such as God of War 3, Dark Rain and Bayonetta will keep console sales relatively buoyant through the spring period.

3. Worldwide Release and Marketing Decisions

While the misleading Google translation suggesting a worldwide release was discredited, this is still a viable theory. In statements to VG247 and Eurogamer, Sony Europe confirmed that “This information on the GT release is only applicable for the Japanese market,” implying that the North American and European release dates will not be affected. It is also important to note the several different sources who provided GTPlanet with information of a planned worldwide release long before the announcement of the March date established a sequential release schedule. With this in mind, the thought of Sony going back to their original plans looks a little more plausible. Regardless, Sony’s waffling on such a high-profile title is inappropriate.

As you can see, despite evidence for each theory, none provide the clear-cut reasoning we’re looking for. Yamauchi’s comments discredit production issues, while Sony’s indecision and oversight of financial issues makes for a lot of head-scratching. What do you think?

What about 3D? Its Sony’ next biggest thing, is it possible GT5 supports 3D and they have to align it with the TV models so we can all buy a new TV as well as GT5?!

  2. mc225

I have heard, its been delayed, because its taken 5-6yrs to make, and now the problem they have is all the cars are out of date ;)

  3. Carlos Hellbert

Hi every one! My pre-order on Amazon.com including FF 13, God of War 3 and Gran Turismo 5 is schedule for march 31. Amazon.com has no information so far about release delay of GT5 as they reply my email about this matter.

  4. Sony789

They can release the game and add patches/new cars/fixes content via PSN.

I think something went wrong with the Game Engine and Programming.

There is no reason to delay, PS4 is around the corner, this just makes no sense to me.

  5. Wizard Hat

Now PD has extra time to polish things. I bet kaz gets just as annoyed as we do when this happens. I bet he gets creepy Japanese nerds sulking around his home and stuff every time it’s pushed back. Well Kaz now you have time to include skidmarks! Lololol.

  6. Rufus

I think Sonys marketing-employees aren’t taking their job serious. The management should hire new people in their marketing office… maybe some people who are GT heads as we are and do their job.

  7. yuukun_uk

    @BadFlounder Says:

“Wow. Wake up guy. If Sony could make the profits Microsoft does it would do it in a second and it cares no more or no less about you as a consumer than MS does. Sony doesn’t exist to build great electronics and to “only make enough profit to get by”. They, like every other major corporation, exist to make money and as much of it as possible any way they can.”

maybe Sony should start charging us PSN service? would that make you happy?

  8. chris

just release the fucking game already, what the fuck, seriously, everyones goin to buy it, so fucking release it!

  9. twinspark24

IMO there is one one reason for the dalay- Sony will launch a 3D TV and a week or two later- the GT5. This will boost not only PS3 sales, but 3D TVs as well

  10. wardo

maybe it’s been delayed because well umm.. the time trial was a joke… granted it was to show off the physics.. but the physics sucked and it handled like a wet noodle, this fucking thing should of been a launch title with the ps3 and we should have had gt6 in our hands already….. this is turning into diablo 3, might see it in another 5 years.

  11. Jonathan

You know its funny. I dont know if you guys recall but Sony has made a simalar mistake when they tried to time release the Playstation 3. Which gave Microsoft an very early lead in sells and fan base. Which Microsoft still has an solid lead even with an slightly inferior system. It seems Sony didnt learn and are making the same mistake with GT5…by the way I do NOT own an Xbox

  12. Rhett Mash

As much as the Forza haters would like to point out the flaws in Forza 3, I think the reality is that PD were not expecting Forza to come in this strong. Before you haters start to lash out, that game pretty much cleaned up the racing game awards for 2009 consistently across the board.

IMO, PD definitely want to make sure they can improve on their features and deliver a knock out punch. They may have underestimated their competition. Now they are reacting by taking more time to deliver the answer.

  13. Jim

Delaying GT5 in favor of a handful of crappy fighting games, all in the name of financial manipulation and fiddling, really stinks.

I wonder how this is going over at Polyphony Digital?

  14. Jolin_R32

Theory #2 sounds most credible in this case…

I work in MNCs like Sony, and I must say the tendency to make drastic changes is pretty “common”. Especially for a Japanese company, top management are usually people who are closing in on their retirement (no offence though). They frequently overlook things, and when they do, they pull ranks and make sudden changes.

Months ago when I first heard the initial release date being around 2009 Q4, I was also surprised why they choose to clash w/ FF13. Then when I know 2010 March would also mean clashing w/ GOW3…etcetc. I expected something would happen……

  15. Mustang750R

what if GT5 is getting more manufacturers onboard and they wish to get them on disc instead of update of dlc.

  16. dbarrade

Maybe it’s because now they’ve finally got a decent damage model they’ve left their programming for a few minutes to check the web and realised everyone is demanding that they have realistic skid marks and reverse lights and 3d trees too.

No seriously, I think it’s because poor Kaz is still struggling to sign all those copies of GT5 he’s giving away… and has got behind schedule conveniently calling it a “production issue”.

  17. tyl0r_r

I doubt it’s production issues. How often have I read Kaz saying basically “it’s done and they can release it when they want to”.

It’s all about the money. Shareholders do NOT care about when you and I will get to play our favorite video game. Profit maximization is all that matters.

  18. Spriggers

Anyone else kind of relieved? I get the feeling they could actually use a bit more time on the Japanese version. Take yer time PD

  19. Watevaman

    Who cares?

It was delayed, get over it. It’ll come out eventually. No one’s happy with it, and there are other games out there to play.

  20. Sheep0r

@ Vampire63 Those 10 cars would been in gt5, if you followed some racing leagues like fia gt, 24h races…. you should have seen many racing cars etc. with gt 5 commercials on the windshield! and gt5 will have the original audi r8 lms, not only the show car. also gt5 users haven’t to pay weekly for 10 new cars, we will have to pay once 60€ and that’s it. Regarding the car list, have forza 3 a ferrari f1 2007? i don’t think so and we got it in gt5p :-P the only thing where i can say forza is good is the sound of the engines and cars!
Sony would release gt5 when they want. I say they bring it out in april. the financial year of 2009 will end at the 25.03.10, and they would earn the most money with gt5 in 2010!

  21. daus26

Well it better be summer then. I swear, if Gamestop’s right… it’ll be like the world’s coming to an end, early.

  22. Icant55

FOUR WORDS !!! RELEASE THE DAMN GAME… some of have had this game on pre order or paid for for over 3 years now..SH*T! I think sony getting real greedy now … it would be real f*cked up if nobody jumped when they release Gt6….

  23. AndyC

Was going to say that a delay like that could really only be down to some critical failure in licensing, say with a track owner or car manufacturer. But the posts above around 3DTV really seem to make sense.
I don’t think it could be a code/test issue, a delay like in a team that size is significant, even after the years of waiting…
Could be production, but again that’s a helluva delay I think.

  24. MrLionKing17

    @ vampire63
Forza 3 is the complete opposite to this game. It was released half finished just to get some sales before GT5 comes out.
It should never had been released in it’s current state.
A lot of the cars don’t even have a display in the in-car view, the dash is just black.
Even the gear shifting animations that were added in a patch after release are done badly, it looks like they couldn’t get them done properly but released them with the patch anyway.

This video shows the in car view of the Peugeot 207 S in Forza 3 with no display and the driver missing the gear stick when shifting.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3jim2BPFBM

I would love to know how Turn 10/Microsoft justify charging us for more content when we have not got we we paid for in the first place, a finished game.

Take your time Polyphony Digital and don’t make the same mistakes Microsoft have with Forza by rushing it.

  25. GTguy88

Why? Because the plan never changed, it’s long from done, and even longer from release. They fed us a 09′ release for publicity and more attention, then another march 2010 fake date. Now we are getting closer to the reality, a Q4 2010/Q1 2011 release

  26. Luke

“What bothers me most is the almost childish cloak of secrecy under which the game is held. ”

Well personally i like it. I tend to be much more interested in those games. For example GTA4, before it was released there was not one single screenshot or video from the gameplay, only character shots. That way you can the game is still a virgin in your imagination that you can discover when playing yourself.
And as i said another time, i don`t want any more news from this game (except release date). PD has shown me with the demo that they will release a great game, and i will personally “undress” the virgin when i have my own copy.

  27. pasigiri

LOL. I can’t say I’m not surprised though. Every GT game that’s come has been delayed repeatedly. I’m very anxious for this game. It IS the SOLE reason I own a PS3. I even got a new steering wheel; the G27 from Logitech (AWESOME wheel, but the paddle shifters don’t work with GT5P, only with GT5 demo).

I will say though, that from a marketing perspective, it’s smart not to release GT5 with GoW3 and FFXIII and what not. Let’s face it, one, the car racing simulator genre is not as popular as RPGs and action games, especially when your talking FF and GoW. Two, it’s $60 a game now and folks just don’t have $180+ to spend on video games in one pop, especially in today’s economy, Japan, US, Europe, you name it. So if the average person is out at a game store and he/she see’s FFXIII, GoW3, and GT5 on the shelf, most will only buy one or two of them (more than likely one). And factor in my first two points, FFXIII and GoW3 will get bought up at a quicker pace. Not to say GT5 wouldn’t get bought up quickly also, just not as quick as the others.

Sony knows what they are doing …. um …. (*sigh*) …. maybe and sometimes (and I use those terms very loosely). They should have released a long time ago though. GT doesn’t need damage. Why? What’s the point? Realistic damage is when your car hits a wall at 45mph it’s a great probability your done for the day. Realistic damage is when you pop off the track at speed and debris or part of the rumble strip catches your wheel and rips apart your whole left front suspension; race over. The should have spent that time on weather and time of day stuff.

… Sorry I got off subject there. I am waiting for the day I can run around Deep Forest with the sun on the horizine (like in GT3) in a Lambo LP670-4 SV.

  28. lans

Vampire 63 Stop trying to peddle your forza filth!
No one wants to buy dlc cars every 2 months when they should have been included in the disc, forza even got shifting dlc, what the f? we dont want to here about that disorganized 2 disk dlc mad game!

We dont care about forza! even if gt is shite, i will still play it more than forza, 1 played forza 3 for a month straight and its too easy and boring, you cant even host proper racing competitions, because of the inconsistent settings on cars, they are too many assists! even if you switch them off its still toooooo easy, i think toca race drier is better than forza 3, so please this is a gt site, if we want to go to a forza site we will go there so please stop trying to discredit gt ALL THE TIME you troll!

  29. viejaloca

Woooowwww never have I even heard of a game this popular being delayed so much. Sorry but Sony is being a huge dumbass. Why don’t they sell GT and save the money they get if they have all those other titles?

  30. BadFlounder

    @Cobraagent90

“Sony isn’t as greedy as Microsoft!”. LOL

Wow. Wake up guy. If Sony could make the profits Microsoft does it would do it in a second and it cares no more or no less about you as a consumer than MS does. Sony doesn’t exist to build great electronics and to “only make enough profit to get by”. They, like every other major corporation, exist to make money and as much of it as possible any way they can.

  31. Arif

The Main reason why I think this game is coming out so late in the Good OLD USA to Me is that
    a) They have NASCAR in the game right?
    – The NASCAR contract with EA Sports (for AMERICA) expires at the end of the 2010 NASCAR Season- which is of course the same weekend that Gamestop has Posted for its pre-orders 11/11/10
    ——SO——
It would be wrong for Sony to release the game before EA’s license expires no?

  32. Tim

I have to agree with others this is not only bad marketing it’s also giving Microsoft more reason to laugh and unfornatley in this case it’s sony’s own fault , the word that should be permant here is “DONT ANNOUNCE DATES FOR GAMES THAT YOU CANNOT PROVIDE!” for god sake nintendo dont do it nor do microsoft.

i mean sony’s track record release dates for both PS3/PSP wise is not 100% good various games have suffered delays.

  33. Pedz

Aslong as they use this time to fix the AI and sound.. Gt’s major downfalls… Ill be happy for a summer release, which makes all sense for them as its during the 2010 FY, and its when people want a game that will last them most of summer (and I’m sure GT will). I just hope it isn’t released later than summer…

  34. IzzyStar

very stupid to even announce the JP releasedate when there was said a WW release earlier.. but i dont care tbh.. if it was realeased in march i would go on a “youtubesearchforgt5gameplayrampage” and watch every clip that on there, and then go to bed cry myself to sleep JUST cuz of i can see the goods of it but i can not touch it! that would be horrible! A WW release would be the best, END OF STORY!

  35. GtCuba

So this means winter 2010? I`m so anoyed right now. Sony and their shit PR decitions get on my nerves… guess Forza 3 will do, I`m tired of waiting tbh

  36. danthespaceman

I wonder if there has been any delay due to the number of tracks. It seems that PD seems to focus its efforts on a particular area (although we do know they have separate teams working on different aspects of the game).

For a while we heard a lot about car modeling and everything that went into it. Then more recently we heard a lot about getting the damage system up to a level that was worthy of GT5. Yet I’ve never heard much about tracks. Maybe after testing the game as a whole they’ve realized this the one area thats lacking and needs improvement. Roughly 20 unique locations/environments is about half of what GT4 offered after all.

The fact that Sony wants to capitalize on some of the other big games coming March is just another reason to spend some extra time polishing up the game. If it really is just Sony’s marketing department holding things up and not a production issue, then I say take advantage of the extra time to make the game even better.

  37. Fritter

One good thing (if it’s number 2) is that Sony’s fiscal year ends March 31, 2010. So, if they do just want to wait until the fiscal year is over, it wouldn’t be that huge of delay.

  38. S3 Racer

A bit ashamed: bought a used xbox arcarde and forza today to kill the waiting LOL.

Not GT. But at least i got a car game to pass time.

Second is also the most plausible answer for me. Cause the biggest exclusive games are 2009 (except GT5). They should have pushed back GOW3!! but else Gt5 there is not much exclusiv coming 2010 till now (as far as i know to pippi nobody off)

  39. jBat17

i’ll go with number 2. shareholders pressure the big wigs to see an increase every year. after sony’s success in the holidays and their potentially strong 4th FQ line-up, sony is saving up GT, a system seller, for the 2010 FY.

shareholders will be happy next year for sure. We, GT fans, will be waiting some more but we’re so be used to that now.

oh yeah, i betting it’s a global simultaneous release around may-june.

  40. spawinte

Polyphony and Sony are making themselves look very silly. Taking a ridiculous amount of time to develop the game. Getting sidetracked with demos and psp ports. The comment from the microsoft guy about “minigames” is a fair jibe to make. If they are delaying it just for a financial report then thats very selfish and shows a great disregard for their customers. When people feel they are being taken for granted they tend to react. Sony took Playstations popularity for granted and assumed people would happily fork out 600 for a console. Now they are still playing catch up with microsoft.

What bothers me most is the almost childish cloak of secrecy under which the game is held. They give us small bits of info and screens/vids and expect us to be sooo grateful. They have enough content (1000 cars and a ton of tracks) that they could release new screens/videos/snippets of info right up until release day. Instead we’re lucky to get something once a month and then we find out that the lead developer is some sort of primadonna who doesn’t want to be asked about specific game features when doing interviews. They really need to get a grip, show some respect for the loyalty of the fanbase, finish the game ASAP and release it without further delay. Yes I’m a wee bit annoyed :)

  41. LarryL

Well, while I’d prefer to get the game ASAP, I can see some bright sides to this from a gamers perspective. I now know I’ll have plenty of time to play through White Knight Chronicles, Heavy Rain and GoW3, all games that I’m buying day 1 buti more than likely will immediately stop playing once GT5 came out. Oh, and not to mention the expansion to Dragon Age.

I personally think it has to do with a mix of 2 and 3. I think Sony knows SO many people want this game “right now” that if they released in Japan first, probably a strong million people would have probably just imported the game, screwing over the other terratories bottom line. So instead they switch to a world wide release once all the localizations are done and everyone’s happy from a bottom line perspective. And to pacify the fans, they’ll probably add in some more content and give us lots of info.

  42. DaveTheStalker

Industry analysts are talking about a PS3 price drop in 2010. Wouldn’t it be something if GT5 and a price slashed PS3 and a VERY enticing bundle were to hit stores the Tuesday after E3? E3 gets us hyped up for games and then reality hits when we have to wait for 3 months for those killer games. Releasing GT5 & price drop right after E3 would be a summer climax, instead of the usual summer drought.

  43. Jonstone

Maybe the production issue is not with GT5 but with the PS3 itself.

By all accounts the release of FF13 has seen a massive upsurge in sales of the PS3 in Japan with decembers sales being 350% up on the same month last year at around 500,000 units in Japan alone.

If sony sees GT5 as another big system seller is it possible that the increase in sales due to FF13 has left them short of the number of units they think they will need to cope with the upsurge in sales when GT5 is released?

Not much point releasing a system seller if you don’t have enough systems to sell.

  44. vampire63

Honestly if there are more the 15 nissan skylains i will vomit on the GT5 box put it in package and will sent it to nissan and PD
But i will keep the cd and play the hell of gt5 and will crash The NISSANS with max speed in to the walls

  45. vampire63

Still enjoying Forza 3? Well, Microsoft is looking to keep your engine humming with some new content that helps gear heads celebrate this week’s North American International Auto Show. The content, known simply as the “AutoWeek Car Show Pack”, raises the curtain on some of the most exciting new cars for 2010, and adds several elite 2009 racers to the games expanding car roster, including the 2010 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 and 2010 Aston Martin One-77.

    Here’s what’s included:

    1. 2009 Audi RS 6
    2. 2010 Ford Shelby GT500
    3. 2009 Lotus 2-Eleven
    4. 2010 Aston Martin One-77
    5. 2010 Porsche Boxster S
    6. 2009 Audi R8 LMS Show Car
    7. 2010 Pagani Zonda R
    8. 2010 Saleen S5S Raptor
    9. 2010 BMW Motorsport M6 Coupe
    10. 2010 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport

For fans who like to try before they buy, Turn 10 is offering the 2009 Lotus 2-Eleven as this month’s free car download and encourages fans to strap in and take the “AutoWeek Car Show Pack” for a test spin.

The content is now available for 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE Marketplace. For more, hit up the game’s
This is good marketing every month new free car
AND ALSO A VERY GOOD CAR LIST not nissan skylaine gtr ( with 1000 different names and colors ) and the same inside engine and performance

  46. wardo

what ever happened to “we can release whenever we want” What is with Sony’s obsession to include every car ever built in the game. Seriously 1000 cars! 950 will be crap, and at the most you’ll drive them once. Why bother Sony?

  47. Erik

@Js321 Thats what I was thinking. Sony will be launching there 3d tvs in the summer and we keep seeing videos where they use GT5 for their demo. I think it is all part of some massive marketing campaign by sony which will destroy the competition.

  48. madaz75

Somewhere in a darkened boardroom Sony Executives are making a Deal with the forces of Evil.
Where by causing anguish and suffering to otherwise innocent people is rewarded with Larger profit margins than would otherwise be obtained.

  49. GTguy88

Why? Because the plan never changed, it’s long from done, and even longer from release. They fed us a 09′ release for publicity and more attention, then another march 2010 fake date. Now we are getting closer to the reality, a Q4 2010/Q1 2011 release

  50. gtkiller

The game being delay is really anyone’s guess, the big picture is that EU and NA launch windows have been unaffected by this announcement. The ones hurting are those that planned on importing GT5 including myself, and now we all have to wait. :(

  51. Luke

The real problem for us is, that we don`t have an alternative. There is no other racing game coming out in that period, so Sony doesn`t really have to fear to lose customers with a delay.
Up until now Sony is still trying to overtake the X360, because MS released it a year sooner, Sony lost so much. But Forza is already released and this time they don`t have much to lose with a delay.
But i sure hope it`s because of productions issues, because that way the game will have even more content or more perfected content.

  52. Tim

Guess 2.. but they should have taken another blockbuster game to push back then…
because Gran Turismo is like already in production for more than half a DECADE

  53. Hernan

Kaz should learn to shut up himself until he knows a release period for sure, i been hearing him that GT5 is close for a long time, if im not mistaken Q4 of 2007 was the first date he said.

I have no problems with games taking long but why he tease us soo many times when the game is not even close and if the first 2 teases were mistakes, why he continue doing it?

Dragon Age was announced in 2004, Bioware never gave a date, they went silent and in 2009 they finally showed the game again because now it was ready, less than a year before the release, they didnt tease us along the way and they made a great game.

This is what polyphony should do, no dates, no “is close”, no more ” *laughts* Why do you think GT is so far away?”

  54. Cobraagent90

People relax. All companies want money. However, Sony is not as greedy as Microsoft. That said, they don’t want to release the game in spring because of final fantasy 13, heavy rain and of course God Of War 3. So the best date is SUMMER….

  55. wiseguy

The more you look into it, the more it seems as if Sony are delaying the game for marketing reasons like Kaz announced back in 09. PD is not to blame on this one, I just hope they use this time to keep developing. Here’s hoping for 1500 cars and 30 locations.

  56. Hernan

Now i dont have hopes of a real release date at all, i have 0 trust in Kaz or Sony, il believe anything when i see the box in the store.

  57. Mickle Pickle

    @ pranl(aaron17)(gt4ever) who wrote :
QUOTE: “might as well buy god of war 3 and Heavy Rain..i have the least hope gt5 will come out this year…:/ idk ” END QUOTE.

That’s EXACTLY WHAT SONY is expecting that most people will/would do.

You are falling in their “trap”….

As for me, It doesnt change much, one way or another, Sony has managed to get my money already, I bought the PS3 for only and ONLY the GT5 series, i am paying for too much and waiting for too long already.

I am stuck and will have to play with GT5P a bit longer (or AssCreed2 or BioShock)
Other than that, i am way too busy anyways even if GT5 is out…

  58. Jorge

Great info Jordan. Also reading through the net, we might have two more options:

Option 4. Test best of GT5: As with other GT releases, PD prefers to test GT games with Japan first. Get feedback and tweak a bit the final GT for other markets. We’ve seen that with GT5 prologue, in which the Europe/USA market included more cars that the original Japan version. So, what if the GT5 Time Trial for GT Academy was more successful than initially thought? yesterday Sony announced 1MM downloads in participating countries alone. Imagine worldwide probably 2MM or 3MM downloads… By the way, when you install the game, there is a disclaimer that all the data (lap times, replays, etc.) can be accessed by Sony. And actually you can only play if you are on-line. So if 1MM downloads provided the info Sony & PD wanted and if this info is good enough to define the final tweak to the physics engine, then they do not need the Japan release anymore.

Option 5. Last week, Sony announced that Indy cars will be present in GT5. So now you have Indy, WRC, SuperGT, etc… If I were the organizer of Formula1, I will be very nervous about it, specially after the horrible 2009 F1 season, F1 needs all the advertising the world can bear, to the point that they got Schumacher back on a car. Can this be the production-related issues Sony is taking about? Keep in mind that Sony had the F1 license before and getting the F1 cars back in the game will not be such a big effort, specially since the physics engine supports a F1 model (look at GT5 Prologue F1 Ferrari, beautiful!) This point can be enough for Sony/PD agreed to delay the launch of GT5 since its impact could be tremendous, mind you that this will not go against the F1 game license, since GT5 will only incorporate cars not a F1 championship game.

    yours to think about…

Come on Sony you are breaking my heart here ! every time I get close and full of hopes , you take the hope away . Sorry for that guys but there are no racing games on the ps3 ! , and my damn xbox had to break before I could buy forza3 , but since gt is way off “again” I will buy a new xbox and forza 3 , and back to the subject , I think the third one is the correct one .

Sony seems to be more keen to spread put big releases for it’s bread and butter (no pun intended) which I believe is a good reason for a launch delay, however I agree with most of you that Sony handled the launch schedule poorly and should either forecast it’s sales better or remain mum about release dates until they are finalized and know they can meet said dates. I for one don’t appreciate being dragged along by Sony’s poor marketing department…

this is getting funnier every minute. Just wondering how many are considering at the moment to turn their backs on Gran Turismo. I still have the intention to wait but it start raising some serious questions about why keep waiting.

    It’s turning into a farce!

Still hope for a worldwide release soon (2 to 3 months).

It’s just let down after let down……….

The conflicting and misleading statements from bot companies (Sony/PD) over the past year, have become laughable and pathetic. Regardless of the 3 speculative possibilities, the whole GT5 handling has become amateurish at best.

Sony is betting big on 3D television, so perhaps they’re cramming in 3D support at the last moment. Not sure if that would work for a racing game though. I guess it would be great during a replay.

For the second point the quote answers your question,

“If Sony felt that it had already met its console sales targets for its 2009 financial year, analysts said, it might want to push the GT5 launch back a little so that the frenzy surrounding its eventual launch would boost sales in the 2010 financial year”

so like it says if they met the console expectation for the year, they could push it back.

Number 2 seems the most likely option. Considering that it seemed more like a corporate announcement, and that Kaz was sure of March from CES.

The second theory, its more plausible.. money rule the world… and there´s not we can do about it..

Hoping for a june release… fair enough.

A little bit of 2 and 3 I believe. We are guaranteed GT5 in 2010, and more than likely in the summer. I’m stoked
