Bigben Interactive has just released the announcement trailer for the upcoming WRC 5 title that’s set to be released later this autumn. Other than the Ford Fiesta that’s featured in the announcement trailer and an earlier video featuring the VW Polo R details remain scarce, however, the trailer does showcase the diversity in track variety ranging from dry events to those taking place in the rain and snow.

The first official gameplay video has been released showcasing the aforementioned VW Polo R and Rally de Portugal.

I figured this title would cop a basting.
I dunno, there aren’t many rally titles around anymore and I very much enjoy the WRC series. I bought all four on the PS2 and the first three on the PS3 – WRC4 was a very hard title to get hold of (nobody stocked it, LOL, and I’m still looking for it). The graphics weren’t flash, I think they were deliberately “painterly” and sure, they did start rehashing a lot of tracks, but physics-wise they were fun and the games overall were challenging.

I’m just happy to know that they’re actually making GT7 as we speak. That’s all the info I need right now. I can just give up waiting for stuff to happen, take my mind of it and then someday be surprised by a seemingly instantaneous announcement.

Oh dear, another pointless game. And is this supposed to be a PS4/XBone gameplay video? The first Dirt on PS3 looked better.

Sit tight. It’s a PC exclusive, they aren’t prting it to consoles as PC Sim racing is more popular and flexible unlike Console Sim Racers. They have lots more options if they stay on PC, and they know that.

That’s actually not true. Dirt Rally is coming to consoles, but Codemasters said they won’t be working on the port until after the Early Access version on Steam is complete. And PC sim racing is actually not more popular, it’s a very niche genre. Project CARS has sold way better on consoles then it has PC, and Assetto Corsa is coming to console because the devs realized they could get a much bigger market there.

In the WRC5 videos I’ve seen stages look too wide, rally stages are supposed to be narrow and challenging, making stages too wide to cater to casuals is a bad idea imo.

I’m sorry, but after the (good) surprise that Dirt Rally was, the bar is set really high, and these games (both WRC and Sebastien Loeb’s) just look arcadish and not very good. It seems that both use the same engine as well… Dirt Rally is just so very good compared to the previous roster of Rally games.

That gameplay video sounds like a real drudge…that constant horrible straining engine sound will definitely get on my nerves.

In fairness, the Codemasters team is probably ten times bigger and their budget is very likely twenty times that of this studio.

Seeing how DiRT Rally is supposed to exit its early-access phase around the same time (supposedly), I think Codemasters has the rally ‘genre’ on lock down, even if it wasn’t for the slow build up for WRC5.

  7. Deko Wolf-GTPT

After Evolution Studios no other team has been able to use the WRC licence to its full extent. Not Milestone, nor Polyphony Digital have used it well.

Ultra wide unrealistic roads, bog standard arcade style handling – I think I’ll be giving this one a miss. Yawn.
