GT5 Academy Edition Bonus Competition Announced

When Sony announced the GT5 Academy Edition at the end of July, they advised us that “there is more news yet to come on this title”. True to their word, a surprising suite of bonus content has been announced in the last few minutes.

Firstly, those who purchase the Academy Edition will receive a 25% discount voucher for the online “Gran Turismo Boutique” store – selling a range of Gran Turismo branded clothing.

More significantly, there is an exclusive competition available to Academy Edition buyers. An in-game challenge to be run through January 2013 gives the six fastest gamers from eligible territories (see the official site for details) the chance to meet up at Silverstone in March 2013 for a range “of GT Academy-inspired challenges”.

If you’re not a resident of those territories, or are unable to buy a copy of the game, there is an additional “wild card” GT5 Academy challenge at the Nissan stand of the Paris Motorshow (29th September – 14th October 2012).

The winner of the Silverstone event – and a friend – will receive a spectacular prize of an all-expenses paid trip to the 2013 24 Heures du Mans on the 22nd and 23rd of June.

These bonuses come in addition to up-to-date game software and the DLC tracks and cars (and paint and racing gear!) released to date.

GT5 Academy Edition will be released in PAL territories on 26th September 2012, at an RRP of €29.99/£19.99.

This is a complete rip off and waste of time. Only buy it if you haven’t got the cars that are in this disc, and the code for the academy bit doesn’t work!

  2. Doober

We might see some really good stuff in the next Big update. Remember Kaz said he wanted another 2 years to make this game. Maybe the next large update(if it even happens) brings some epic stuff?

    1. TurboProp

C’mon Man…might, Big update, Remember Kaz, another 2 years, large update, epic stuff?????? I hate to see a person’s hopes crushed but none of that stuff will happen. This is Sony, KY and PD we are talking about here…

  3. Pit Crew

The last thing PD, Kaz, and GTAcademy needs is more controversy. PD owes some regions some opportunities at this Academy trial, so I hope they have a plan laid out by the next one.

    An Apology couldn’t hurt either.

  4. COLOSAL TOSSLE

    NZ….good for them…Australia needs a competition.what do we need to do.mass emails to nissan,sony,PD,we need a passionate plea,a spark.alas i cannot organize such things.

    1. another_jakhole

Weren’t Indonesia and Thailand eligible countries previously? They seem like even wilder choices, but again, it’s not Kaz’s decision.

  5. GLP

Jann vs Brian vs Jordan vs Lucas in a GTR than Jann is racing in GT Championship.Who would get pole? (who’s the quickest/best driver is what I’m asking).

  6. dixonbaps

I am very cautious about getting this because I don’t know if the academy cars that were won this year (or any other free one off cars) have data installed within’ the gamedata on my HD. If that’s the case then I may lose them forever with a new streamlined install. I think i’ll pass until I know for sure that I won’t lose them or any other free car due to the fact that they’re not in the new install data. I think my gamesave will be a bit useless if the gamedata is not their to support it with no way of downloading it again.
I don’t mind supporting PD with an extra £20 notes but I don’t want to lose anything with no way of getting it back in doing so.

    1. GLP

Got it. Never use it. Trade for (big ask) 2J. Can’t be bothered to win money! Gav_Paul or Gav_Paul_Ipswich (psn ID) not sure of my own ID!

  7. Amac500

Yeah I’m one of those who aren’t in the range it’s being sold to (Europe). But atleast I’ll be able to go to the location for those who can’t buy it, yup, Paris, France all the way from the Mid-Western Uninted States (eye roll) lol

  8. RentALife

Can this also be a regular gt5 game with buying cars and painting them racing online to drift, drag or regular racing?

    1. Zuel

The GT Academy is just what it is. Every driver event from GTA should be involved as well timing. Really wont know until you guys across the lake get’s a copy, then you can let us know.

    2. badboyg316

Zuel could be right because from the looks of it, they’er not pointing nor showing any signs near the NA region.

  9. tpark103

Fantastic stuff I must say. I remember when specII came out I almost bout it but I was persuaded not to as it didn’t have any bonus material. I have to be honest if this one were to come stateside I would more than likely get it.

  10. Hentis

Well I am intrested in getting it but I already have the Signature edition, but i dont know if it will be compatable with the signature edition save file….?
To be honest the cmpetition doesnt intrest me. I would like to retire my GT5 signature edition disc at some point as its been used more time than a condon machine in a gents loo!!!

    1. mistersafeway

Yes, it should be compatible with your previous save file, it’s still GT5. The only problem is that to get the best out of it, you will need to delete the game data (not the actual save, the one that includes the patches) which will reduce the size of the installation. It makes me wonder how close to being finished GT5 really was when Sony forced the release: Kaz has always struck me as the sort of guy who’d like to use the whole disc…

    1. Pit Crew

      Yes Mean Elf, since then.

I think reasoning behind downloading Scion from PS Store was to give us option of adding car to our garage and buy multiple if we chose to. I drifted the Xmas present to death so, yeah I grabbed about 3.

    2. sangdude82

One of my mates doesn’t have the internet connection on his ps3 nor has a PSN account. If this edition included the Scion FR-S ’12 on the disc, he would be able to drive the car without going online to download it. :)

  11. shepzki

For what you get, it’s a pretty amazing price. Although I already have the regular game since day 1, I will get this too for the novelty factor I think.

  12. Zuel

This puts the states out again, sorry to say Nissan has a much larger following than Europe does. So far Europe has three of four drivers that have gone though GTA and the states one.

    1. MeanElf

THe US had it’s own complete edition (the XL) recently – basicaly the same thing. Or were you talking about GT Academy options? If so, there will more than likely be more.

    2. Zuel

@R1600Turbo You right but we don’t know whom will be the second state side driver just yet.
@MeanElf GT Academy options, the XL version was sold world wide just not in the states.

    1. e30 freek

no no i understand it comes with dlc thats already been released i just thought he was talking about the game comming with brand new DLC but thanks anyway

  13. R1600Turbo

Look at all the ungrateful comments in here already. Seriously people, nobody is forcing you to buy the damn thing. Sheesh.

    1. another_jakhole

19.99 is the price of the game. 20.00 is the “money” you’ll receive for “buying” that game. This “free'” will give people the chance to become a pro. racing driver. For the majority of people, these competitions are their first and only shots at the real thing, regardless of how ungrateful the people are since this doesn’t benefit them at all. It’s far from what I wanted, but I know to look at the bigger picture and mostly to think about the future. People are thinking nothing but NOW NOW NOW, I want it NOWWWW.

This GT Academy thing is growing faster than I could have imagined. It should be a true blessing for a lot of people that it is.

  14. Praggia

    Boring is that all
    FFS get on with it
either announce you’re no longer working on DLC for GT5 and concentrating on GT6 or just release some new DLC and its not like its free we paying for it
    CHRIST ALMIGHTY !!!!!

    1. Babylon7

Does it strike you that it is probably Sony making PD do this to milk GT5 for all its worth? After all is it Sony and not Kaz that made the original announcement.

    2. another_jakhole

Nooo, Kaz wants to do it more than anyone else. If anything, this motivates him more than, “Boring is that all – FFS get on with it”.
