As 2013 kicks off, so too does the special competition available to owners of Gran Turismo 5: Academy Edition.
Reminiscent of GT Academy, the competition kicks off today with a special Seasonal Event in the game, featuring Kazunori Yamauchi’s Nissan GT-R N24 on a custom Eifel track made with the game’s Course Maker.
Prizes for the Seasonal Event top out at over 5 million in-game credits for a gold-level time.
The real prize comes later, though, with the top seven drivers in the Seasonal Event scoring a trip to Silverstone, for a one-day, mini race camp. The fastest competitor, as judged by the GT Academy instructors, wins a V.I.P. trip to the 2013 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.

GT6 just can’t here soon enough…
E3 2013 should be the perfect time for GT6 to show itself, same the PS Omni. Hope it blows us away since it’ll have nitro and brake upgrades, unlike GT5.

I like the fact they can target seasonal events…we don’t all get the same ones..we no they were running Japan touring car event long time back..we dint have them here.this could be use full in creating local events..leagues….like football has..
Or you could just get creative and start your own events as loads are already doing..
I welcome all new players and I hope they get something exclusive ..that’s what makes gt5 better for trading cars and stuff in the future..

Why do some people believe they have to or even think they’re FORCED to buy the Academy Edition, just to join this event. Why are you even bothering with it anyways, just ignore it. Don’t we have a seasonal event coming up tonight? This event is obviously for those who bought the academy edition, so don’t go expecting PD is only doing this to get money off you. You don’t need to be apart in this event so leave it at that…

Only academy edition? That’s not fair I have all the car packs. PD only do this a way to get money from people to get the academy edition for a seasonal event.
Then if you spent all that time and money on the game, you already got everything that you can possibly need. This, however, it’s perfect for new players.
But not so perfect if you want to participate in EVERY seasonal event in the game. I want to say i have took part in every seasonal event in the game so far but i can’t because i would have to buy the game twice. It isn’t really fair :(

steebz there are already three regional version of GT5 so you are never going to get all of the Academy events. They are regional for a reason – successive regions have already had the chance to compete in similar events and these regional extra versions are for new players from the regions that probably represent the highest sales returns.

HAHA! completely useless if you’re at level 40 and keep your credits above 15,000,000 because you have nothing else to spend on. For people who are starting the game, this is like a gift from the heavens though.

If you don’t have a 900° steering wheel, your chances are very slim. I got into the top 100 with a time of (1.48.4) but that was using the directional pads and an automatic transmission since I don’t own a steering wheel.

Why don’t they put some great US tracks like the city courses where the ALMS takes place
They currently have no American street courses. I don’t think they need to go overboard, but Long Beach would be a good add. If not that maybe St Pete, or the newly repaved and reconfigured Belle Isle Park, but I’m biased to Belle Isle cus it is my hometrack. But I agree, I kind of just feel like 1 more North American course of any type would be good.

And why can’t we use the cup holders? Every car has at least one. Shame that they spent so much time modeling the cup holders and we can’t even make use of them. Waste of time, isn’t it?
I’ll second Belle Isle. An island track would be dope. Canada on one side of the river, the Detroit skyline on the other. It IS the Motor City, after all. PD should show respect by adding that track.

It’s a game over two years old – are there many others (apart from Team Fortress 2) that give new content so long after release? The Academy events also aren’t a part of the game, they are extra to give folks per region the chance to become a real racing driver.

Hopefully we can still enter the time trial without that edition. That’s how the time trials usually are.
No only certain (mostly EU) countries and New Zealand can participate. The seasonal is unlocked via a code that’s included with the GT5 Academy game.

I think everyone really just needs to calm down. This is like an incentive for people in Asia to buy this edition. Do people forget PD is a Japanese company? Of course there’s going to be some Asian favoritism at times, and those times are truly few and far between. This is no worse then when the Edge Camaro was available. Tell me how many people got ahold of that in Japan. Or how many Americans got the Jaguar Chromeline. I can’t believe some people actually say they feel ripped off about this.

No ones telling you to go out and buy it twice! No ones forcing you to! And if you’re really going to complain that you don’t have enough X2010s then you probably need to find a new game that has more cars like that instead of actual cars. This happens every time something gets released to a single area, everywhere else complains even if they’ve gotten stuff in the past.

And the fact that you’re saying you sold your ps3 because PD released a seasonal event in Asia but not in other areas, either you’re lying or you need to suck it up. It’s a video game, it boils down to that. If you want to get other things that are offered go ahead, but the fact that people are getting this upset over a seasonal event, not even a car or track but a seasonal event, it’s almost comical to see those people and how stupid it can make them look.

You obviously didn’t look hard enough. I bought it on Ebay from a Canadian supplier. Redeemed the Academy code this AM on my EU account. Emptied my credits to 0. Got gold and got 20mil for my efforts. It’s one race for a bit over 2min. You didn’t miss much.

Fair enough guys. But the latest GT Academy is NOT for North America. One could say it’s like buying the game twice, but you need an account that will accept the codes (a participating country). I bought the Signature Edition so i could get all the trinkets that were included in the box. I also got a 6 Stealth Codes, ChromeLine Code (bought separately), and did some Facebook App. to get the 6th ChromeLine Jag, which was all an investment on my part.
I think the argument could be, what don’t we all-around the world, get the same content?

If I was finishing in the top 250 or even the top 5000 with some regularity in TT events I would spring the bucks for an academy edition.
