GT5 Kiosk Demo Also Playable at Target Stores

The playable Gran Turismo 5 demo that first appeared in Best Buy has now begun to appear at Target stores, according to early reports from GTPlanet readers Ryan of Denver, Colorado and Stefan of Brooklyn, New York. Check out their pictures below for confirmation, and take a look at a few more videos from Jeramy back in Oregon.

“This is my first post so your comment isnt valid”

That’s idiotic even by your pathetic standards.

I’ve read many many of your crap posts. You honestly give GT fans a bad name. It’s people like you that make GT fans look like a bunch of retards.

  2. GMTN

Funny, for the longest time people complained about seeing the Tokyo track, and yet the demo is out with numerous other tracks and thats what people are driving on the most.
Good find, and the gameplay looks great!

  3. Red_9

Also, the dude watching annoys me: “I don’t like Gran Turismo; it’s too realistic. Real driving is a lot easier. I prefer games like Burnout.”

For him, ‘real driving’ is like driving on city streets at 50km/h. He doesn’t know anything about racing.

    1. Antonisbob

LOL Yeah, I though too my self “n00b” when he said that… of course real driving is easier if your driving down a public street. -_- w/e GT for life!

  4. Red_9

The damage in the first video is nice; the front bumper reacts and flattens when slammed against the wall from an angle. I was a little worried that damage would happen in predetermined stages, but it clearly is real-time adaptive.

I just wish they’d show a demo with full damage on. At every events they either have it off, limited, on for certain cars, or just in between. There hasn’t been any consistency.

  5. FonzdaiiGT

This website is so nice, they basically give us news on a daily basis…but I still want more! lol
55 days left! I will secretly cry the day I get a copy in my hands!

  6. GranTurismo5ltd

Simple fact is even if they were not planning on doing so, they will have to do now as there will be many many many unhappy fans =P

  7. Sprite

Kaz has no answer for me, I’m sure he is busy. I agree the demo is to pull more people into the Playstation rather than satisfy fans who own a PS3. What better way to show off what it can do by using a flagship game like this, think it through. Mum, dad and kids walk in, they see playstation move and the kids want it, dad thinks about the price and possibly what they have already, then he sees GT5 “wow that looks great” he is then putting a PS3, new tv and surround sound into the shopping kart. Well done Sony and PD.

  8. BWX

Even GT5p sounds good with my setup- not crappy TV speakers. If you set the sound to “Large Theater”, and have a decent home theater with subwoofer it sounds really good actually. I’ve got a 7.1 setup, about 800watts, connected via HDMI and when cranked up it sounds fine. Of course it could be better, but it isn’t “horrible” or “pathetic” like so many people with crappy sounds systems or TV speakers say it is.

    1. kaos

Well, you feel the bass because of your big system.
When i crank up the volume it makes a lot of noise aswell.

The thing is, the engines itself just don’t sound that nice. But i saw this footage of a Supra running around in GT5 and that was porn to my ears.

I say, the full version will have better sounds than GT5p, for sure.

    2. Berlino Bear

All well and good but Forza and the Need for speeds sound great with my simple system. There for they are better than GT5P.

    1. JayKayEm

Plus Forza’s increased financial reward for increased difficulty settings, its better selection of european cars like the VW Corrado or BMW E30 M3, the inclusion of cockpits for all cars…….

    2. Red_9

Forza only has about 400 cars. You should be glad PD managed to make cockpits for 200 high-detail vehicles. Did you really think anyone could make unique cockpits for 1,000 individual high-detail vehicles??

I don’t think alt rewards for difficulty settings is a factor. GT simply has different physics levels; you shouldn’t be penalized for choosing a lower physics setting if you’re not as good.

    3. Nemesis

@Red_9: I do have to agree with JayKayEm that it’s a bit disappointing that didn’t include any cockpits for standard cars.

      @JayKayEm:
      – How do you know these cars will not be in GT5?
      – The only difference in difficulty there is are the physics settings and why would you punish the casual gamer for a choice of a different physics system?
      – I’ve never understood why you’d want a livery editor or paint shop in a racing simulator.
      – It would be nice if Porsche would’ve been included.
      – The crash noise is the only thing I truly hate in GT5P. Sometimes it has a lag of more than a minute…

    1. F.G.

So you’re judging the sound of the final game on a demo, where you dunno which build it is, and filmed through a crappy digital camera.

I laugh myself to sleep at the stupidity of some GT fans.

    2. UrielEdge

YOU ARE ULGY & MAYBE!! You should suck out your wax from your ears

this game hasnt comeout yet and you are judging it looks amazing

      go play some MARIO KART

    3. Gulyo

The GT sounds were all the time crappy ( hurt my ears ) and this is fact … so what we are talking about guys … and on the videos have same sh*t …
I have quality sound system and Shift, Dirt2, Grid have fantastic sounds, GT5P has …
Hear Ferrari sound in video … BUT we will see !!!

    4. Nemesis

@Gulyo: A tip. Turn down the volume! If you really know about audio you’d know the sounds in these videos could never provide a realistic representation of what the game sounds like. Or do you play mp3s on your quality sound system?

  9. pfei

Long-time lurker, first post. Just to stress the importance of a demo. I got the PS3 for racing games only. I don’t care about anything else except for what I play with my 3-year-old daughter. I got addicted to Warhawk thanks to the demo. I generally don’t play these types of games but I liked the demo, did some research on the ‘net and decided to download it. My wife and I love the game and are totally hooked. I never would have discovered Warhawk if it wasn’t for the demo on PSN.

    1. Mr Frappy

In all likelihood we will eventually end up with a demo on PSN, but people seem to be missing the point. The demo out in kiosks is not just there to promote GT5, it is to promote PS3 and get the attention of people walking past who may not own one yet. You do, so they already have you as a potential buyer of the game.

    2. FonzdaiiGT

The demo will definitely come out, the question is whether it’s coming before of after the release of the game.

  10. tvensky

I dont care about “the all NEW sparks effect” in GT5 but in the last video a bit of too much of them.. :)

nod bad new AI. and great new driving physics, and at last no “Brick cars” when you ram them.. they actually spin.. yay! Overall I see most good changes.

    1. fade

There are different builds, other recent builds had the sparks toned down, skidmarks added, damage off, we will just have to wait for the final game.

  11. Viper ACR

    I agree.
Sure that a gt5 demo at usa stores its good but at psn is super better.
people who doesnt know gt5 go to a best buy or target store to play it.
And there are people who comes there from miles away to play the game and see some idiots playing that game without even knowing any thing how to play it.
if they had one at psn it just makes thing better.
    GT 4 EVER

    1. Sigmaviper11

Considering anytime a new demo comes out its plastered all over the place in PSN, the website and the like then maybe they should. Its only downfall is that it doesnt attract entirely new customers that don’t have a PS3 or haven’t heard of GT. Thing is, I know in stores some arcade racer dude will try GT, crash about everywhere because he can’t drive, which could then potentially discourage others from trying it because it looks too hard. Oi.

  12. GIVE ME GT5!

If sony publishes a free playable demo on stores, why not one at a digital store(PSN)?
There are more people going to psn than best buy and target.
    How hard is that?
It increases chances of people buying the real game.
they did it with gt academy, why not now?

    1. Mr Frappy

Ummm, it’s quite simple really. Those who can download it via PSN already have a PS3 – this demo is not to keep impatient fans happy. The whole purpose of putting a demo unit out is to have those hardcore fans rush out and play it, right in front of all those thousands of other potential new customers walking past. It’s called advertising.

Would it hurt them to release a PSN demo too? Maybe not, but then the game is launching in a few weeks, so…chill out.

  13. Gulyo

This is must have game but must resell too … I’m not impressed at all … too sterile, bad sounds, phisics arcadish, but nice, it’s true … but beauty without real content … we will see …

    1. DrTrouserPlank

GT is always sterile, this is the least sterile version yet though. A lot of the best racing games are sterile graphically because that’s not the main focus.

      Sounds, we’ll see.

Physics are the best available possibly on any sim, but certainly on a console.

If you re-sell it then that’s your loss.

  14. Andy

For those asking a about the uk… I saw a Sony truck in meadowhall car park (Sheffield) yesterday. It had an entrance and exit on the trailer. There was a sign saying closed for staff training. I managed to have a look in and there was def a gt5 demo been played by some hmv staff. I think we’ll see a demo in shopping centres very shortly

    1. Jack (wainwj)

      Seriously?

I live near Medowhall (i live in Doncaster).

Il keep an eye out when I go, let me know if you see it again.

  15. Craigles

They better have better sounds for the crashes because all you get is a bit of tyre squiel which isn’t going to go with the damage is it.

  16. Sigmaviper11

Actually damage could be more detailed. Shattering glass, smoke, steam, fluids leaking, fire, springs ejected from the car, wheels flying off . . . the works. But first they need licenses that allow the cars to be beyond totalled out.

    1. Vulcao

I bet there will be shattering glasses and pieces flying from the cars in the final game. What we see here is not the final version.

    1. Sigmaviper11

Hope so. It’d be nice to have individual qualifying at some points but thats just me. Practice/qualifying combination technically makes more sense.

    2. Sigmaviper11

No worries. I think its a virus. A lack of GT known Granturismophelia. Starts with motor control dysfunction. Followed by irrational joy towards loud noises, wet pants around shiny driveable objects, sudden hyperactivity and finally explosive diarrhea.

    1. gamer28

No, not the only one but at least for me the BB that has the demo is next to a walmart, target, and gamestop! haha Plenty of options for me :D

    1. Maxiboy

No real need for snow, bar 1 or two rally tracks, but I do think a rain feature is needed on 90% of tracks. I cant wait to generate a twisty point to point track and make it wet and try and steer a renault alpina through it. Seriously Im thinking of volunteering for short term cryogenic freezing experiments untill Nov4.

  17. snausages

Somebody in the third video says: “That’s why I don’t like Gran Turismo games, they’re too realistic.”

    i lol’d.

    1. Klaus

      I lol’d too.

He then goes on to say “real driving is easier than this”.

haha… so wait is it realistic or not… if real driving is easier than it surely it’s not realistic?!?!?

    2. Geo_212

“I like games like Burnout Paradise…” You can’t say that then say “real driving is easier”, because you can’t compare driving at 50 mph to driving at 180+ mph, and if the only racing game you like is Burnout Paradise and other combat arcade racers, how would you know? lol

  18. lalaurentide

Watching him drive on professional like that makes me wonder about the time trial demo physics, those look way more like prologue in term of realism than the time trial wich had no traction whatsoever.

  19. nello-c1

i am beginning to think that it will be in all major retail stores. I mean follow the trand best buy target next walmart would be my guess.

  20. gta_bird

I can confirm it is NOT in bestbuy in the Memphis, TN area. I didnt check target though b/c i just got home and found out about it. Ill vhevk the next time im there though.

  21. Pooz30

I found the time trial demo nearly impossible to play with a remote. Don’t know if it was just me, but I hope it’s not the case in the final build.

    1. Geo_212

Yeah, the oversteer was way too snap-ish… it should be smooth and a lot easier to handle with a pad. Hopefully it’ll be like that in the final build :D

    2. infamousDee

That’s why they have Standard physics; realistic car physics are nigh on impossible to handle with a regular controller. You really need a wheel if you’re going to experience GT5 properly.

    3. Sigmaviper11

That’s why I plan on getting a wheel, the current choice being the DFGT cuz I know its fully supported for most PS3 racing games. How hard is it to drift with the DFGT though? Like say an E-Brake drift rather than feint or powerover?

    4. BWX

Get a G25 or G27- MUCH better wheels than the DFGT in terms of design and build quality. it also has better force feedback, and much *faster* force feedback which a lot of people overlook but is very important. Only downside is not as many buttons on the steering wheel itself but once you get used to it, it’s not a big deal really.

    1. Sigmaviper11

8 cars hmm. Think about it. If you have a car with 1000bhp are you always going to use it? No. Just because it supports 16 cars doesn’t you will always race against 16 cars. 8 and 6 might be common. Or maybe 2 car increments. Just chill dude and quit worrying about it. Its pointless when everyone already knows the answer. As for everyone else, I read that karts will be supported up to 32 machines on track. Anyone help verify that or point me in the right direction? Only applies to karts though.

    2. ferhound id

I feel like everyone say no yo dumb! 16 already confirmed!! because they feel emotional with the game and dont want to care the number of cars. xstraightedgex should chill, he started ugly talk.

    3. Nemesis

@ferhound psnid: I agree that xSTRAIGHTEDGEx could have put it more gracefully. However 16 cars is confirmed and this isn’t the first time you’ve started this argument. Furthermore your ‘ban me if you like, but I will be back.’ statement doesn’t help.

  22. Marky264

That last video with the Corvette & the Ford Mustang… OMG I love how when he guy crashes the Corvette into the wall with the Mustang 2nd Corner. When the Mustang turns it’s self around theres so much torque steer and the burnout effect is awesome! Never seen that before till now :P The physics look top notch!

    1. Nemesis

I personally love the cars rears coming out a tad when exiting a corner. In one of the replay videos on a previous best buy post theres a good movie which shows this.

    2. viejaloca

Oh yeah!!! You couldn’t do that before! That’ll add alot of fun to the rwd cars. Also the tire squeel sound cool too!

  23. Demo on psn please

Please Sony/pd can we have a demo on psn some of us do not leave our homes lol also some of us live on a small island called the uk and cannot afford to travel to the USA to try this master piece after all we did pay for prologue.

Come on Jordan any influence you can put on kaz would be great after all he does show respect for gtplanet as we all do.

  24. DemonBlade

I’m hoping PD announce the demo will hit PSN at TGS next Thursday! Could release it the week after which would be about the right time for a demo to be released.

  25. Sigmaviper

can’t wait. 2 more months. ooo and a few days till TGS. I wanna see someone do a good drift over R246 or Rome.

    1. llllllllllllll

my brother is really good at drift , but we can’t go to usa because we are in middle east xD .. just can’t wait for the game .

they should put the demos in the psn store not in stores !!!!!! most of people that go there is not a real fans , they just try the game !! T_T .. sony should know that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! real fans that wait for this game in everyday !!! they always know everything that comes for it !!!! T_T .. they should put demo in psn store so people buy it not puting in store that only 100 go to it and not care about it !!!!
im really mad !!!!! we wait everyday and they don’t give us the demos !!!! T_T …

    2. Sigmaviper11

Damn that sux. It’d be nice if they released a demo with cars we’ve become accustomed to eg, F430, GTR, Viper, Ford GT, and 370Z, maybe with or without damage on the new physics on maybe High Speed Ring and R246. Get satisfied without spoilers, err spoiling anything. No mods just a basic time trial demo.

    3. Nemesis

@llllllllllllll: I think that is the point. The ‘real’ GT fans as you call them will buy the game regardless.

They’re trying to increase their sales. Placing a game demo like GT5 in a store which sells just about everything will most probably increase their game, PS3 and pheripial sales. At least thats the general idea in my opinion.

    4. llllllllllllll

yea but if they put it in psn store more people will play it !! and they will see how good it is !! T_T
i just want a new demo to play it for 2 months !!! i don’t have anything to do !! really bad summer , no good games , couldn’t travel with my friends !! T_T .. i am playing gt5p every day !! but i want something new !! i wanna see the real game !! so i want a new demo !! videos doesn’t show u the real game so what’s the use of watching them ?!!! .. im really mad sony !!! so don’t make me kill my self !!! for a demo !!!

      please T_T ..

    5. Nemesis

@llllllllllllll: I don’t think Sony’s main goal is to keep you entertained. I’d suggest finding a hobby or a girlfriend. A therapist wouldn’t hurt as well.

  26. Jake

Hey this game isn’t realistic enough. If it was the Ferrari 458 italia would be on fire!! Haha! This game is amazing and it’s nice to see a 458 that doesn’t actually catch fire! Hihi

  27. Hobbsy79

Does it not seem strange that we have not heard anything from Sony? Surely they would have made some sort of announcement?

  28. llllllllllllll

why they put demos in stores ? .. why they don’t put demo in psn store ? .. why?!!!!!!.. i want to play it !!!! i can’t go to these places !!!! it’s tooooooooooooooooooooo faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar from my country !!!!!!!!!!!!! T_T .. unfair T_T …

    1. trk29

Yes it doesn’t make sense. If you are putting this out for people to play why not give it to everyone that has a ps3.

  29. llllllllllllll

    it’s going to be epic , i don’t want to watch the videos >..< .. i don't want to watch everything !! ..
and this game will be realistic !! but videos doesn't show u the real game !!! just look at gt5p !!! it's old and still looks realistic , imagine what will be gt5 !! ..

  30. DirtyMudFlaps

Woah…. First time I seen standard car damage…

Someone need to like seriously total it or just as much as they can!

    1. DirtyMudFlaps

      OOOOMMMMMFFFGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      ARE YOU GUYS SERIOUS!!!!

Well I know I’m not crazy

I can clearly see a DEFORMED or hanging bumper @ 2:43

Somebody else has got to see this besides me…

  31. trk29

I am curious and maybe someone that acutally knows will answer. With all of these demos popping up do you know if this is a disk update or disk running or do you know if it is something they are downloading to the kiosks, or if Sony people are going into these stores and updating the kiosks themselves?

    1. RobGroove

I don’t think its disk as there is evidence the demo is approx 3GB’s which means its installed on the hard drive.

    2. Nemesis

@RobGroove: How did you make that determination?

@trk: There are multiple possibilities. The only ones who can really is either Sony or some one who works at the stores.

    1. GT'ireland

tesco? I will be patient and wait on my delivery, dont want to ruin the build up to play a demo.i will keep my calm untill i get the full game ive been waiting for..and thats a long time.it will be worth the wait.

  32. Sticro

On the first vid on the Ferrari 458 there was only side damage, not he front at all… strange (he kept smashing the front and nothing)

  33. DemonBlade

Surely this build of the demo could easily be released on PSN? What do you think Jordan? Are we likely to see it before release day?

    1. Hoodie1878

I’ve been in two minds about this and come to the conclusion that I may not download it even if it’s available!

The first time I want to play this game is the full version in the comfort of my own home. Let’s face it, it’s going to be chuffing ace and it’s not as if I’m going to let a demo influence my purchase. I’m staying a GT5 virgin till the end!

    2. Mr Frappy

Same here Hoodie1878. I have absolutely no intention of downloading any demo or going to play a demo before the game launches. At most, I’ll take a look at others playing it if I’m ever in a games store and they have kiosk with it loaded.

    1. Hmph

You had one in Birmingham. Plus it was a days drive to GamesCom. Totally in reach of the determined. Australia has been completely ignored. We drive for 3 days here and only get halfway across the country. You don’t realise how lucky you are.

Also, still haven’t seen an Australian car apart from the 10 year old ones in GT4.

    2. Joel

ay im wanting a go at the demo. iv got my own simulator set up ready. they should release the demo on PSN. its not fair haha
