Lucas Ordoñez Selected as 2011 ILMC “Rookie of the Year” by SPEED.com

To put the finishing touch on an already incredible year, SPEED.com has announced original GT Academy winner Lucas Ordoñez as the 2011 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup “Rookie of the Year”.

If you’ve been following our coverage of Lucas throughout the 2011 ILMC season, you already know why: he’s put in a flawless set of consistent drives in the world’s toughest endurance races, including the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. His sofa was also auctioned off just last weekend, raising over $2,216.00 for charity.

Congratulations to Lucas for this mainstream recognition of his accomplishments. He’ll be back on track next month, with the rest of the GT Academy champions, at the 24 Hours of Dubai.

Thanks to Robert for the early tip!

i take back what i said about not having the 2012 gtr thank you PD & kaz finally you seen the posts lol i can’t wait until the 20th of this month

This is not the place to troll you troll. Its about Lucas not you and your trolling remarks. To those who says that Lucas didn’t need GT Academy to be sucessful in racing all I can say is he would not be where he is because it takes a lot of money and talent to get there and GT Academy just provided him both.

Like I said look around the forums for the topic you would like to criticize about. This one is about Lucas you are off topic.

well its relating to gran turismo so no im not and i would doubt lucas cares about you or me, i do give him my respects and congratulations but who cares about what i said lets just stop talking about it

this is the first time ive ever posted something like this but PD’s waiting game is getting old i can handle every 2 months for DLC but i see maybe 2 to 4 times a week they do maintenance why i don’t know its not helping me but ive beaten every gran turismo: 1 through 5, i love GT and will probably buy 6 but the way its going for 5 im starting to think i wasted my $106 on the collectors edition & its not about DLC only but i want more good cars like the 2012 gtr not tuned cars that are already in the game (it was their first DLC so i can understand that), im getting tired of stealth cars i have 5 of them & im not a “troll” for throwing out my opinion in public, constructive criticism is one of the reasons why gran turismo 5 is on gtplanet so maybe kazunori will see it so instead of replying with a “trolling” statement please explain some of this stuff to me so ill understand whats going on better instead of having a narrow opinion about this

you make a good point…I mean there’s alot to be dissatisfied with in GT5, and many of us ave overlooked a lot of it simply because we are fans of the series….but there’s a difference between trolling and constructive criticism. The only request I had for GT5 was better shadows, and there is alot of speculation around the net about why they cant be fixed, and a lot of it sounds really valid too, but what bugs me is the fact that PD hasn’t addressed the issue at all, at least to confirm or deny why it cant be done.

MyFavoriteGame thanks for the point and radracing obviously you don’t understand whats going on it takes a childish troll to call someone a troll and i never said it was all about me so don’t post spontaneous statements just because you have no clue what im talking about, thousands of people share the same opinion as i do and “MyFavoriteGame”…. he made a great addition to what im trying to explain so please enlighten me steven hawking of gran turismo!!!

Im a BIG GT5 fan !!! But if you people think that the game is the same as driving a real racecar you are all retards. Dont care what kind of controller, wheel, seat,or tv you got!!!Its close but no cigar.

    1. MyFavoriteGame

its close enough to make an impact, even little things such as learning entry speed and breaking points…I take my car out to the track almost twice a month, and though i have not raced any of the track that are in the game, I’m pretty sure it wont take me more than 10- 15 laps to get reallly comfortable with it

    Congratulations Lucas

How about his LMP car as DLC and a championship with the races he’s competed in.
And his racing suit and helmet.

I think GT5 helped him prepare but I think he has plenty of natural talent too. GT5 alone can’t make driver who’s done as well as Lucas has.

I’m pretty sure GT Academy made him who he is today, the real worked experienced helped, but his chances of making it to a team without first going through and winning GT Academy were most likely very slim.. Congrats Lucas!

+1 if we keep getting Nissian then at least give us a good one like a free premium LMP……. And an Audi R18 TDI

  7. Quakebass

At first I misread “$2,216.00” as “$2,216,000″… THAT would have been an EXPENSIVE sofa… >_<
    And congrats Lucas!

@SMfan Not at all. I don’t think GT5 gets amount of good credit in terms of physics. There’s lots of criticism in that area. I’m not saying the physics engine doesn’t need improvement (there’s always room for improvement though) , but I feel GT should get enough credit for revamping their previous physics engine.

    2. omgitsbees

It’s really dishonest to say GT5 was Lucas Ordonez’s break in racing. He actually had a lot of real world racing well before GT5 and I doubt that GT5 would have mattered at all with him getting into ILMC this year. He would have gotten there either way, just on another team. He isn’t a one man team either.

    3. Vesartis

@omgitsbees While it is true that GT5 may not have turned him into a race driver, it is important to note that the game was accurate enough to allow someone with real world talent to rise to the top. The game must be a good enough simulator if real world racing skills translated that well.
