The Mercedes-Benz Live Race with David Coulthard is shaping up to be quite an event, with the latest announcement confirming that players worldwide will be able to take part from within Gran Turismo 5.
At 14:20 UTC/GMT this Monday, September 5th, David Coulthard will take the wheel of a real 6.3 litre V8 powered Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. His opponents will be GT5 players around the planet, who will simultaneously pit their wits against the world-class professional driver, driving the same car through a special Seasonal Event within the game. The track will remain a secret until the contest begins to give everyone (including Coulthard!) a fair chance.
Meanwhile, at Mercedes-Benz World in Brooklands, England, 24 prize draw winners will be battling to qualify for their place in the competition. Those who set the top six qualifying times will compete against Coulthard in real time at the flagship venue where visitors are welcome to come and watch the action for themselves. The contestant from Mercedes-Benz World that sets the fastest lap will win an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2011 Brazilian Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Reply if u think I’m right. I think the players have an advantage because u can can go for it as much as u want where as In real life you have to be a little careful granted he is a racing driver. We’ll just have to wait and see.

As great as this event sounds, and excited as I am to take part – is anyone else thinking that there is no xp or cash payouts for this seasonal, and that there will be no other Seasonals or OCD this week?
Well I ran the last competition Mercedes-Benz World ran, this time i’ll only be a spectator but i might muscle in and challenge a few of the drivers after the event, they might get the satisfaction of beating two racing drivers if they’re lucky

Just read Jordans post above, so it will be Top Gear test track, as i dont see them close central london down for the day so Coulthard can race some guys on a Video game.
He says at the start , he will be in a track in the ‘UK’ , so that rules out Monza and nurburgring. The only UK track on GT5 is top gear test track (unfortunatly), so its either there or a new track. Hopefully it will be a new track, but more than likely itll be the top gear track though.
Mercedes Benz World (where 6 players will be racing) is less than an hour from the Top Gear Test Track. Easily close enough for DC to travel between the two.

The possible tracks are: Nurburgring GP, Monza and Top Gear Test track. Forget about Cote d´Azur (Monte Carlo). My bet is on Nurburgring GP but it is a “surprise”…Top Gear could be. The surprise thing is maybe for make people play in those tracks practising or because it is a new “surprise” track. (i don´t think so cause Jordan “knows”).
Nurburgring is the obvious option because it is in Germany and close to the Mercedes Benz “quarters”.

Castle Coombe is a fun fast track in england, used to love that back on TOCA 2
Not one of the uk’s best known tracks but used often on Topgear and Fith Gear, and i bet the licensing would be cheap to obtain.
Sadly we may see very little if any dlc now as all the talk from PD seems to suggest GT6 is the priority now and any dlc they release for GT5 will make GT6 seem weaker, i think they’ll hold back everything so GT6 will be a bigger improvement. No one would buy GT6 if it was just a couple extra tracks and cars over GT5.
In the video, DC says “on track at a secret Location in the UK” right at the start so it is one of three possibilites:
1. Top Gear Test Track
2. London street circuit (highly doubtful)
3. a new British track being added to the game (either a all new track of coursemaker designed like a real world UK tack)
Or that was all a mistake and he didn’t mean to say UK because he is somewhere else
Let’s hope for number 3. :P
I can’t reveal what the track is, but I can confirm it is one already in the game.

Circuit de sarthe is mostly roads so unavailable to race on except for Le Mans week.
I just saw the episode of Top Gear with the guys driving across Italy in their Hot Hatch cars. They come to a point overlooking the city below with jeremy’s window rolled down. You can hear the F1 cars racing around Monte Carlo. They ended up driving 4 laps around the circuit. The first lap Bernie Ecclestone was with Jeremy. Then they ran 3 fast laps passing each other, well, it was just Slow May. :-)

This sounds very cool. I will probably watch live and then compete afterwards. I hope they can continue to come up with unique events like this.
From what ive read elsewhere the Coulthard and six GT5 players will race simultaneously and we can watch that online live with martin brundle doing some pre race comments then at 15mins past the hour the race starts, with coulthard at a real world circuit in europe and six players on same track in GT5 at mercedes world in brooklands england.
Then when this event ends ( 4hrs Nurburg? no idea! ) a seasonal event will appear in GT5 with coulthard’s laps (maybe lap times or even ghost car thru the data tracker) for us to beat.
I’m guessing Topgear test track or Nurbergring grand prix track
Topgear test track is an airfield which Mercedes could hire for a day.
Nurbergring is in germany and Coulthard also races DTM in germany and Mercedes has a large Mercedes grand stand there.
Less likely but an option is Monza.

Australia has labour day, but it’s in October. This GT5 event Sucks coz it’s will be midnight between Monday and Tuesday here.
