Yamauchi Reiterates Gran Turismo 5’s Release at “Any Time”

June 13th, 2009 by Jordan

Kazunori Yamauchi has to be aware of the excitement he caused when he said “We Can Release Gran Turismo 5 Whenever We Want“, but that didn’t stop him from doing it again -- this time, in a video interview with GameReactor:

“We’ve actually reached a point where we can probably release it any time, except that you can also keep working on it as long as you want to, as well, so it’s just a matter of timing.  What really is the most important is that we keep working on it until we’re satisfied with the final product.  [...]  You’re waiting for something that’s worth waiting for.”

The rest of the interview is also very good, as he discusses more details about Gran Turismo PSP.

“it’s worth waiting for”…that’s the key sentence

  3. DaveTheStalker Says:

Is there a link to the rest of the GameReactor interview?

  4. Mustangmiha Says:

If longer we wait, the better it will be!

  5. Jordan Says:

Sorry, Dave, looks like I had pasted the incorrect link in the post. It’s been corrected to point here. There’s nothing else new, though – it’s just a video interview, and the entire thing is embedded above.

  6. Terronium-12 Says:

Oi. Kaz is really working the anticipation train, isn’t he?

I’m starting to think he’s saying this on purpose.

  7. GT-SM Says:

“We Can Release Gran Turismo 5 Whenever We Wan , That dont means the game is done they need time to polish the game and bug free, i hope they release the game before 2011 , in mean time whe can play the upcomming games like Dirt 2 , Forza 3 , Blur , Split Second , Need for Speed SHIFT i hope they finish the game in detail also day and night cyclus dynamic weather .. etc

  8. DaveTheStalker Says:

Awesomeness! Thanks Jordan. Hopefully, PD will keep these little nuggets of GT goodness coming through the summer. Each time with a little more info.

  9. AngerdX Says:

Thanks for that just love the end comment from Kaz, Worth waiting for!

One thought that pops is that he seems awfully calm, i mean even more so than usual when he mentions gt5 heh

They might be further along than we could ever have hoped, ok well one can always hope and dream for a bit!

  10. Erik Says:

and why can´t he tell us the release date?

  11. Slap Says:

  17. RaLpH89 Says:

A game that’s worth waiting for. A masterpiece is a worth waiting. @FM. sorry mate I have full moded Rfactor so I can wait for GT5 while playing it.

  18. HRT-Scibba-GTR Says:

HI you guy i think GranTurismo PSP is coming first with the new psp go man i want to get that sexy psp go it looks nice to buy for christmas. Then in the new year we will have the best driver game out on ps3 they are going to kick 360 ass out the door.

  19. STEPHEN M Says:

i come on here for news about gt5 bus it seems nothings changed since the last interview where he says ‘we can release it whenever we want’. hope its released soon anyway

  20. Niko Says:

GTPSP released 2009 OKT,and GT5 next year summer.

  21. alaM0000 Says:

I’m just going to wait til Christmas for PSP so i can play GTPSP :D

  22. Sele Says:

I wonder why he can´t really speak english?!

  23. Alan Says:

By “any time” i think he means 25/9/09

  24. Emmanuel Says:

Niko you have no proof. lock_down the ps3 slim has nothing to do with that

  25. Bilbo Says:

Sounds like Kaz just got his own catchphrase. “We can release Gran Turismo 5 anytime we want.” is the new “This is definitive racing game of this generation.”

  26. speedthrill Says:

The thing you guys all don’t seem to get, except for Alan, is that “release it at any time now” means it will be realeased just before Forza 3, wich i think is the best thing he could do to shut those cheap bribing fa*** at microsoft and forza….

That is what he is telling us now through the lines for months…

  27. Jack_uk Says:

this wuld b awesome and i think it is totally possible……….. some people say it won’t come out this quick but c’mon guys its been delayed for ages now. Plus it fits in well with TGS and I think Kaz would want to show it ioff on his home soil

  28. FM Says:

Hoppefully they will release the game before forza ther are some hints like the rally bord Toscana 2009

    http://www.gtpla.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/gran-turismo-5-screenshot-34.png

    No more GT5p updates

  29. banshee8831 Says:

the best timing of gt5 release is the same day that forza 3 releasing.

if it’s done they can release tomorrow too but a little strategy come in handy in these conditions.especially if you have a rival you should overtake it.so i think gt5 will be released on the same release day of the forza 3.

  30. GT Says:

imagne the same day release forza and gt5 they all will buy gt5 eaven forza fanboys

  31. Jack_uk Says:

That would be awesome I’m guessing for a date between september 25th-1 december either way we are getting closer. To keep myself occupied for the moment I’m trying to earn every car in gt5p

  32. Mr Latte Says:

No one has mentioned “Amars” message of 30 days before end of the year, eg end of November.
Also that he said it would be a world wide release, assuming the game is close to being finished it would take a lot of work to have everything in place for a worldwide release particulary when you consider in the past other terrorities have been on average 3-6 months later.

If November/December was the date it would only come approx a month after FM3 but the PSP version is releasing in the same time frame. So they will have plenty of info going to help spoil the FM3 advertising bandwagon.
Also if the PSP version has the ability to allow unlocked cars in PSP to be open in GT5 then it makes sense that it will release shortly after the PSP date.

Last point, someone mentioned TGS but dont forget the Tokyo Motorshow which is on from 23RD Oct till November and as we know we got our first demo of GT5P then in 2007.

  33. ido Says:

November looks more and more unlikely but not out of the question.

FM3 just isnt in the same league. It goes into the same category is other [insert name] killers. They never succeed because they lack a vision of their own.

  34. tsuchiya Says:

    porsche kazunori pls !!!!!

  35. Yumi Says:

Porsche, Lamborghini, Gumpert, SSC, and Bugatti, please!!!

  36. alaM0000 Says:

I guess I have to wait til Christmas 09 and March 2010 to get a PSP!!!!! :D

  37. Garrett Says:

And the carrot continues to hang in front of us. At least Yamauchi knows when he has the whole GT world in his hands. PD better deliver a monster game. Anything less than best console sim, racing and driving, and it will be an utter disappointment.

  38. Morsolo Says:

“Fifth wind says that reunion will happen in two forms, one greater than other and birdtamers will have freedom to decide which reunion they will attend. Greater reunion will ask for great sacrifice to be made in order to get all present and future treasures without new sacrifices needed, while smaller reunion will come in form already known, asking for more sacrifices if future treasures catches the eyes of the birdtamers.”

Two “reunions”, he has to either mean GT5 and Forza, or GT5 and GT Mobile. The decision upon which “reunion” you attend is possibly a hint at an identical release date. As I don’t think Polyphony would release GT5 at the same time as GTM, it looks like we could have a release date close to Forza’s.

And thinking about it right now, could Amar be hinting at DLC? Wasn’t this mentioned once? That you could buy a smaller version of GT5 for less “sacrifice” (aka Money) and then make future “sacrifices” (aka Payments) to get more content.

If you really think about it, my post here makes quite a lot of sense…

  39. Kazunori Yamauchi Says:

Be patience my fans the game is comming this year .

  40. Bill Gates Says:

    why no release date?

  41. gt3luke Says:

“Porsche, Lamborghini, Gumpert, SSC, and Bugatti, please!!!”

Yeah and i think we have to pay for it. If you want the Porsche car pack? you have to pay 10 euro’s. PD can make a lot of DLC because the real fans will buy it. I certainly want every car that is available even if it costs me a fortune.(the grammar of my englisch isn’t so good but you can’t read it if i write this in Dutch):-p

  42. Bill Gates Says:

Look, if it was so far along and ready for release, they would show more of it and announce a release date, or at least a release window. Clearly, they are jumping around the issue by saying it’s ready now, but we are still working on perfecting it. Ummm, so it’s not ready then is it?

Get real guys, you are not going to see this until later 2009 Japan, and Spring 2010 for ROW. Forza 3’s timing could not have been better.

  43. STEPHEN M Says:

this news and excitement is too much to bear! the trailer looks so sensational and we r just waiting for a release date …so annoying! hope it has a good range of cars and circuits

  44. Emmanuel Says:

well Bill Gates…you definitely are a lil 360 fanboy (meaning you don’t belong here) 1) in 12 days Playstation Magazine will reveal more screenshots and infos about GT5 2) FM3 was announced this month and will be released in october…. did you forget about the Tokyo Game Show (september)? GT5 could be announced and ready to be released in december. 3) What’s with all this hatred? Mind your own business, play your game and be happy! We dont hate Forza, they’re great, we hate the fact that Greenwalt is being rude and arrogant since the Turn10 conference.

  45. Kazunori Yamauchi Says:

If you want the game this year, then no private online races since I need time to make them.

  46. Emmanuel Says:

    cut the crap kid

  47. STEPHEN M Says:

so much crap on here! so many potential release dates! 1 final release date needs confirming…instead of all the crap being mentioned

  48. mc959 Says:

I readed all the comments, and i got also a feeling
that we get GT5 at the same date as GTMobile, Kazunori
said that those 2 games will work together, so why not a
Special Edition of GT5 including GTmobile, this will be expensive
(150€-180€) but with these you get all the cars and all DLC included.

And also to make a point too Turn10 that there is some competition,
but i’m afraid that when it starts, they(turn10) will stall at the start… ; )

  49. says Says:

we are waiting for so long, they should release it now, i’m sick of Suzuka

  50. alaM0000 Says:

I guess i rather just get a PSP so i can play Gran Turismo PSP!!!!! :D

  51. tomek_pl Says:

    Kazunori Yamauchi sucks!!!

    NOOOT!!! :)

  52. exgeeinteractive Says:

He said that GT mobile was based on GT5 Prologue’s engine/design and not GT5 (not sure if thats what he meant though). Could that mean that we’re going to have a revamped GT5 in terms of Physics and Visuals.

  53. tsuchiya Says:

Kazunori said that not once and porsche lamborghini?

as might the forza3 have no problem and not know anything GT5, Kazunori seconds when the game is almost over?

    PD: sorry my englis ;)

  54. alaM0000 Says:

I rather just wait til Christmas and get me a PSP-3000 so i can play Gran Turismo PSP and Little BIG Planet PSP anyways it’s the only way i can wait for the real GT5 to come out during next year 2010 March!!!!!:D

  55. STEPHEN M Says:

if i had gt5 prologue…i would be bored of suzuka, cos i have played on it so many times on other games such as f1 03, 05 n 06 and mostly on gt4. its a good track but i would be bored of it. they need to release the gt5 before im interested and get a ps3 to get it

  56. STEPHEN M Says:

ooops, I just read that gt5 prologue has more tracks than just suzuka…still not getting a ps3 just to play it though

  57. KMarigo Says:

I would not be surprised if Gran Turismo 5 would be release in March 2010, at the same time with God of War III, the expectations for these two games are incredible and it would be a massive attack from Sony against Microsoft and Nintendo.

  58. caribbean topdriver Says:

this is so simple to see….. listen,,,,, pd will give us a release date before october and the launch of forza 3, they have no choice than to…. not saying its gonna come out before october but by october we will know when its due out…. another thing its not gonna be long after forza 3, december is basically what we are looking at for granturismo 5.

  59. caribbean topdriver Says:

so stay tune to ps3 magazine which comes out in a couple of days and tokyo show in september…. release date in on of these events thats certain.

  60. SM Says:

Does GT5 has also, car tunning like GT4, not like GT5p simple tuining ?

  61. alaM0000 Says:

:D I’ll just play the Gran Turismo PSP first before GT5 comes out in 2010!!!?? :D

  62. Alan Says:

Theres people going on about how sick and tired they are of racing on suzuka on prologue, everyone seems to have forgotton the high speed ring, i know its not the most technical but i think its a better circuit for racing than suzuka.

Plus they need to release gt5 as soon as they can in order to stop people making the same stupid mistake people made buying a crapbox 360 back a few years ago when they took too long coming out with the ps3.

Yamauchi get the thumb out and confirm it for the 25/9

  63. Emmanuel Says:

25/9????? There’s no way it will be released in september. They can’t release one of the most important videogames without a decent press conference. At the E3 we only saw a short teaser. As I said It will probably be announced at the Tokyo Game Show. It won’t come out before FM3, that’s for sure. PD need time to analyze the game and polish even MORE GT5 if needed. We can hope for december.

  64. SM Says:

Does GT5 has also, car tunning like GT4, not like GT5p simple tuining ?

  65. Jordan Says:

@SM: GT5 will have the advanced tuning options that you’ve seen in GT4.

  66. Jack_uk Says:

Play.com have announced their idea of a release date 27th November 2009!!

  67. Emmanuel Says:

online stores DON’T KNOW when the game will come out. You wanna know when? Stay tuned on gtplanet

  68. Jack_uk Says:

Will do but I thought it would be a realistic release date seeing as its the closest to the december release date

  69. SM Says:

Thanks jordan hopefully GT5 will have advanced tuning like GT4

  70. caribbean topdriver Says:

c’mon of course gt5 will have advance tunning, more so than gt4, going forward not backwards thats what we do…..

  71. Matrix Says:

I really hope we will be able to talk with other drivers during race… And,off course,a huge amount of styling options and maybe an oppertunity to choose your own in game music… Highway to hell must fit the nürgburgring nordshcleiffe perfectly!!!

  72. STEPHEN M Says:

    @ Matrix

yeah that song will be awesome for ‘the green hell’
