A Quick Peek into JPN GT5 Collector’s Edition “Apex” Book

For those of you still on the fence about what edition of Gran Turismo 5 you’re going to buy, you might find this sneak peek inside the “Apex” book included in the Collector’s Edition interesting. I can’t read the Japanese, but it looks like it will at least feature a useful overview of the game’s cars, tuning tips. Take a look for yourself below:

Thanks to Jan and hardvibes for the tip!

Come on, gtp, this is really an old news…I’ve seen these peges on Japan GT site weeks ago…we really are scratching the bottom until November, sigh.

    1. Jordan

As I said just a few comments above, if you scour the ‘net and forums as much as I do for GT news, this blog won’t be useful for you.

    2. HugoStiglitz_420

@gunma36 get a life dude. stop whining. Jordan does an amazing job organizing news info into one place. Not everyone has as much time as you to scour japanese websites. drop the holier than thou attitude

  4. GTP_Dessy

With regard to the Brawn GP car.. personally I think it will make it in the game along with last years Red Bull. However I don’t think we should assume this because of the page. GP2 cars are also mentioned and I think theres a slim chance that they will make it into the game.

  5. Amezke

I’m going to copy what I said in the forums:

“It’s quite remarkable that in the tuning settings it talks about pistons, burners or head gaskets… are we going to be able to buy different types of those pieces for our cars in the game? In that case, the tuning is going to be very very complete.”

  6. Hentis

This might be old news to some but people like me might not read the news in the forums. I have a life outside of this laptop as well.
The Pic of the Brawn F1 car, it could be a stock image of one of the cars taken a t a race from2009, but its hard to tell. We might be even to tell when we are looking at the book as we are installing the 10 gig of greatness onto our PS3 HDD’s
Well we know of at least 1 F1 car that will be included in GT5 and that is Ferrari’s 2007 car (thats been mentioned in here before).
Lets try and clear something up here. The ownership of the design of a car that takes part in the FIA Formula 1 races is owned by the team and NOT FOM. AS I read it as long as Polphony do not use any image, wording or branding that has FIA, F1 or Formula 1 then they do not nee a liscense from FOM. So whats stopping them from using the twelve teams F1 cars in GT5?
Nothing really, Liscences from the teams and thats it. So could we see 2009 / 2010 cars in GT5. I think you are more likely to see 2009 F1 cars in the game but in no way has that been confirmed. There will be some teams that wont want to participate, I think we will have to wait and see to be honest.

  7. GT'ireland

would you rather no news at all people? Its still news.,.im happy enough with the standard pre-order im waiting for, still be nice to have anywho.

    1. Jordan

Just trying to post a lot of back-logged info before the second half of the month. As I’ve said before, if you closely follow news in the forums, this blog will not be very useful for you. I just try to summarize and cover everything in a more concise format.

  8. BWX

It’s weird that there’s two DB9 Coupes but just different colors, and one has no licence plate. The blue one looks like it has an interior and the red one has blacked out windows.

Has the Amuse Carbon R (R34) been in any GT before? I don’t remember it, but I never had the GT for PSP.

    1. Syaieya

you would think with the two db9’s being 03 and 06 it would reflect the differences in size of the two, but it doesnt, they’re exactly the same down to the name.

As for the amuse carbon R, it shows up in GTPSP and it is a wicked little car. I love that thing

    2. Sum1s2pid

The Carbon R also shows up in GT4’s Tuner Village for a mere Cr. 250,000 (NA). It can be a bit… dramatic… when pushed hard. Good fun!

  9. NoonenF1

I hope the US packaging is just like the Japanese packaging, it looks sweet. As with everyone else’s comments, I am glad I have it pre-ordered!

    1. LeStique

I was thinking the same thing. Astons are the peak of beauty in connection to engineering and exquisiteness. Ferrari is only engineering (except for the 458 maybe), Porsche…same thing, Lamborghini is just vulgar, …

If I’ll ever find a million pounds on the pavement, an Aston is certainly on the way to my house.

Hopefully everything from the glorious DB5 to the astonishing ONE-77 will be in GT6. (They can leave out the shitty 80s Astons if they want)

  10. Skidmark

Having experience with manufacturing and logistics it’s interesting to know that this has already been translated…and printed in each of the available languages! It also most likely that the Blu-ray disks have been manufactured, the die-cast cars produced and the whole thing is now being assembled and readied for shipment to each region where the goods will be disbursed to the retailer/etailers…really all the testing is done and it’s just a matter of waiting for the date of 2 November to roll around.
I’m glad I have the Collector’s edition on order!

    1. Spaghettimonster

thinking about this, obviously the x1 has been held back from us for about… three months. so who knows what the actual status of the game in gold might be. :))

  11. Sigmaviper11

Between Piston and Cylinder head in the tuning page, theres a category called burner. Anyone know what that’s in reference to?

    1. BWX

@Liam —- the catlycitic converter? Look at the picture, does it look like a catlycitic converter or a combustion chamber? It’s the combustion chamber, think about it – “burner”, “combustion”……

  12. Bolg

Looks quite nice shame I can’t afford it at the moment I’ve just had to settle for the basic game, GT5 couldn’t of been released at a worse time for me : (

  13. ferr.ox96

The Brawn GP is now owned by Mercedes, isn’t it? Seeing how strong is the relatinship between Mercedes and PD…

    1. Maxiboy

Mercedes bought Roass Brawn and his F1 team after they won the championship, so in a way your right, except thats its not really Brawn anymore, sure the driver and team boss are there, but the product is a combination of McLaren and Brawn tech/data/team.

  14. Tim

I dont think the Brawn F1 is in their i might be wrong but its certainly never been mentioned. and kaz did if i remember said the FIA would not give Polyphony a license or something , maybe this is because codemasters has a massive license with them for the offical F1 games and stuff.

Its good to see inserts of the book i think it is right because i read somewhere the book has a section noting every car in the simulator. whooo its only like 3 and a bit weeks now until a 5 year wait comes to an end.

game , gamestation , and other stores in the uk that were saying 5th of november are now saying 2nd of november. but i wont get to play until the 4th of november.

    1. Stune

I asked on Friday in quite a few places in my hometown and they are all saying 5th now :(
tbh i wouldn’t be impressed at all if we have to wait longer than the rest of the world. I thought it was supposed to be officially 3rd? Only UK retailers seem to have the idea its the 5th, i can imagine quite a bit of confusion.

  15. Rob

Surely they wouldnt be allowed to use the Brawn GP car without some kind of licence from FOM to use it ?
Would be awesome if its in the game because its one of my favourite F1 cars of all time.. Thanks to Button :)

  16. kyleh613

I hope that F1 page is confirmation of all F1 cars being in the game. That would be so awesome. But the fact that it doesn’t have GT5 screenshots in it is raising more questions then answers.

    1. audioproject

Im with you on this one. I cant think of a reason theyd put a pageful of F1’s in their collectors magazine if they weren’t gonna have them in the game.

    2. Owen.C

The page is titled “the worlds major motorsports”. The book isn’t just about GT5, it’s about cars, racing, tuning and motorsport.

    3. kyleh613

We know that the Ferrari F1 car is in the game. The question is if there are other F1 cars. I’m hoping for at least the Redbull car.

    4. Spaghettimonster

it was confirmed quite a while ago, that the rb6 WILL be in the game. there is news on the red bull webpage dated mid-june, i think. and dont forget, we get the x1 as well. :)

    5. NoonenF1

The only F1 car that has been confirmed is the F2007. If every F1 car was to be in GT5, it would have definitely been announced by now because that would be a huge deal. I wouldn’t be surprised if the RB6 is in the game though especially since we’ve seen promotional footage with GT5 with the Red Bull F1 team.
I would be impressed to see some vintage F1 cars in the game though, like how there were in GT3.

    6. Bernd

The X1 is more like an uberLeMans-car, I think. And something tells me, we won’t get it before completing the game 100%

    7. HugoStiglitz_420

@Bernd I’m praying you’re wrong. It would be rediculous for the to do all this work with red bull, have sebastian vettel speak of it, all just to only let very few owners of the game try it. Most people never reach 100% & it would a waste & a shame if 90% if the GT fanbase don’t get to try it. Don’t forget, getting 100% is going to be harder thanany GT game before it. combined

    1. Spaghettimonster

curiously, i posted this three weeks ago. O.o anyway, i still think there is a lot of useless information in the latter half of the book.

  17. Berlino Bear

Is that the full list of Astons? Where is the new Vantage? I really don’t think we are going to see many new Post GT4 cars.

    1. Sam__NY

We don’t think it’s the real deal, we think it’s a mock up made for promotional reasons due to the fact that it’s actually missing cars we’ve seen. So don’t worry.

    2. Maxiboy

Yeah from what I can tell they havent made any new standard cars, so therefore we are really only getting around 130 new cars + the 70 from GT5P. There will be alot of manufactures that will only have cars that are atleast 10 years old.

    3. Steph290

Yeah, I’m really looking forward to the V12 Vantage, but like they said, some cars are missing from this list.

    4. Sam__NY

@Maxiboy- Actually, I forgot where I heard this, but I remember the number 258 to describe the number of premium cars. Like I said, I forgot where it came from, but I remember it quite clearly.

    5. VeyronGlen

I really am hoping that what you guys are saying is right… No DBS, Rapide, One-77, DBR9/DBRS9 or V8/V12 Vantage

  18. scoop2004

I think the Brawn F1 car will merely be an article in the book about F1 in general…. maybe

Only a few astons featured…And you can really tell most of them are “standard” even from that book picture. I think we’re gonna find the “standard” cars dissapointing. 800 cars and most of them are crap, and the good ones arent modelled enough

    1. organ-donor

800 cars crap? Speak for yourself, I would rather drive a TON of the standard cars over premiums such as the Prius and Fiat 500. Premium and standard cars share the same new physics engine, the most important aspect of the game.

    2. Geo_212

Yeah, really. The only difference between Standards and Premiums is the cockpit… Hopefully the engine sounds will be a sweet as the Premiums’ x)

    3. Zuel

The only difference between standard and premium car will be the cockpits and damage. Ever other aspect should be the same. I’m ready to down load my five free cars and get some driving done.

    4. Bernd

Sure, cars with tinted windows are a bit disappointing in 2010, but this doesn’t make them “crap”.
I`ve learned that most of you guys prefer bumper-cam anyway, so you don’t see it while racing

    5. HugoStiglitz_420

I’m dissapointed most in what gets to be premium & what doesn’t. I’m not driving standard cars at all. Cockpit view is the best addition to racing games of this generation of console. 200 cars could be ok compared to other games but this GT. We expect content & good looking cars & we’re only getting 20% in a way. Either I think the game will be badass but I really hope PD patches or DLCs the standards into what they should be. It’s just hugely dissapointing when Forza has more cars. I think the new additions to the game will keep us busy but the cars are dissapointing

    1. occasionalracer

Yes and a surprisingly lengthy read as well with 220+ pages. I was under the impression it was much thinner. Should be good.
