Caterham Brings Gran Turismo 5’s Tokyo Circuit to Life

Before you ask in the comments below, no – the PlayStation Network isn’t back up yet (not as of writing, at least). While you wait, check out this slick video tour of Gran Turismo 5’s real-world Tokyo R246 circuit, put together by Caterham Japan to feature their Superlight R300. For comparison, here’s a lap of the track in GT5:

Some say that he eats his sushi upside down… and that if “unknown personelle” had breached his security he would simply have shot them in the face. All we know is that he isnt the Stig, but he is the Stig’s Japanese cousin!

This actually makes me really appreciate the small things in Shift 2 more than GT5! Leaves blowing around, suspension travel, bonnet reflections, cool replay cameras :)

  3. Shifty

Too over produced. We would have had a better view of the track if they just used bonnet cam the whole time…

    amazing!!

I watched the video and went to the game and I got impressed with the great job PD did reproducing it.

I tried to replicate the video, I used de Alfa TZ2 (light and with low hp like the caterham), I drove like the video, driving in the correct lane, it was very fun, I didn’t like this circuit until now (mainly because I got fed up with all the demo gameplay videos using this circuit)

Slowest lap of Tokyo R246 I’ve ever seen lol. Great video.

I think SuperGT should have a street race there. Wiuld definitely be a spectacular event.

Driver: Unknown, although some say he migrates to Japan every autumn and that he learned to drive in a Caterham.

His helmet is just a little different from the Stig but the gloves are the wrong colour. So therefore, he’s not the Stig, but he’s the Stig Japanese cousin!

2nd to last corner is the only section of that track where I thought, wow that looks like it does in GT5.

Really sad it was made into a proper track in-game.

Maybe everyone should tell Jordon to use the search function.

Or maybe being less hostile would be a nice touch for the new guys that didn’t see the thing that was posted 6 months ago.

Isn’t aimed at the guy I’m replying to, just getting frustrated with the hostility towards people with <10 post counts that get it wrong occasionally.

It would be nicer if you could learn how to actually report a problem. What mobile device or web browser are you using?

Would’ve been amazing if they could’ve shut down that route for an hour or so and really let that Cat attack it.

Or maybe someone from Japan bought the same widely available Simpson helmet and some white overalls…
      Dear me….

  9. Simon

And I always thought they just made it up!
But it does exist. Shame they dont look anything like each other.

  10. Tesla

Pfft. He was braking way too early, and was taking the worst driving line I’ve ever seen on that course. :P

when the exhaust is changed it alters the sound of the engine, you can tell its been changed to the racing exhaust because its a blueish colour in the video

I miss this song so much! I know I can use custom BGM, but SURV1V3 and all the other Prologue songs(I know the menu music is, at least on gt5) should be on GT5’s disc from the start!

Also, Sony I am disappoint. If it’s so “possible” for you to ban anyone with hax, why don’t you just make online inaccessible to those individuals, like before?! You had a choice, play on a secure network(PSN), with no hackers or mods… or choose to hack YOUR OWN hardware and lose that network connection? Seems like a fair trade off to me. At least it should keep Anon quiet.

You are right, its the same deal with damage, they tell you how much damage you can put into the game.

That doesnt look safe in afternoon traffic. He’s really going down the front straight. What if someone pulled out in front of him?

    1. Dan Souds aka GT5Pro

That was an exige for sure, it had the motorsports spoiler and the optional wheels. I wonder if that was placed their on purpose or if it is actually somebodies car.

Too bad PD didn’t make the location more realistic. They turned it too much into a track and I like it a lot better in person.

    1. SavageEvil

That’s because one of the stipulations some car manufacturers have, their cars must always be on contained courses complete with barriers preventing the cars from leaving the race track. I remember Honda had something like this for NFS Underground by EA, no police chases or no dice. Notice every course in GT5 looks like a race course even it is created from real city streets, looking like a race course is something that more than likely a choice for safety and consumer perception.

    2. KFM

I always thought that was a good thing. We have enough street racers in the world as it is. Confining people to a track takes the “reality” out of the location, making it a race course as opposed to city streets, which distances it from reality. Besides, I personally don’t think the Crazy Taxi edition Gran Turismo sounds very enticing.

    3. stoney71

Ya, most people have a problem separating video games from reality. I really hope video games don’t add any more realism in the future or I may not be able to tell the difference at all. I’ve been having problems with that already.
