Eight More Gran Turismo 5 SuperGT Videos

YouTuber mimaximax, who shared those videos I posted yesterday, has been hard at work. Since that time, he’s uploaded ten more clips which – once again – you pretty much have to see. In addition to more in-car replays, we get to watch the Nissan Motul Autec GT-R, Amemiya Asparadrink RX7, Autobacs ARTA Garaiya, and the Lexus Weds Sport IS350 in action from various different angles. Enjoy, and once again, thanks to mimaximax for all of this!

These videos are undeniably awesome… the graphics do not seem to fail in giving us what we expect, and the new sounds are a somewhat “refreshing” addition to the game!
However, though it may be very small, there is one small niggle that I have, with the gear changing – in most cases the change in sound comes before the gear change animation… I know that this isn’t crucial for game play, but in what appears to be a nearly polished game why not just give it a bit more of a buff and shine, to make it perfect! nonetheless, I have to say brilliant work Polyphony, and thanks for the uploads “mimaximax”

    @Lapster
why mention Forza 3 in this forum? go figure who the troll is.
Also you mentioned cheap camrys? make sure you even own a vehicle before making this comment. take it easy.

    1. Jan

i am being honest, too. if gt5 had awesome sound in these gameplay trailers, i would sell my 360 right now. but as it is, i am keeping both. also need a fun car sim every now and then.

  3. maxpontiac

    Lapster –

No. What I ask of people is simple. Use common sense when it comes to these videos.

    – They are Youtube – therefore their quality is NOT indicative of the final audio/visual quality.
    – No one knows where in the timeline these videos originate from, nor do we have evidence to verify anything.

    Think my friend, think.

  4. Lapster

blademask, at least know what ur talking about before u own yourself again… FM3 does have private racing, its the multiplayer hoppers that suck. And we will also have boring 8 car grids if the newest vids are any indication… so, kinda makes no sense to troll if u dont know your abcs kiddo

  5. JGillis

CPU controlled cars are boring to watch. The best video was of the lexus in car view looking forward with in game sound. Thanks for the videos though I enjoyed them.

I recognized the T.V. ^^ You can see the DFGT attached to the table.

  6. blademask

people that complain about the audio are probably the same people that can’t keep the cars on the track, and didn’t even crack ranking for the TT.. Its like looking at Avatar for mistakes and ignoring the whole picture.

GT is second to none, who cares if X-Sim has better sounds and doesn’t look photo realistic? Enjoy your 8 car races with no private racing.

  7. Lapster

So, according to maxpontiac, we have to enter the site with little aprons because, we are “supposed” to suck it up to Sony and PD and not comment about how in the hell,if this game took 5 years +, things ARE NOT up to standards on several fronts. BS! I dont care how many got a a Yamaha SMD/5000WTF system, sounds has to transcend and capture you… you can hear it clearer in a better system (OBVIOUSLY), but even in its most standard form, it should make you say… ” Damn, this sounds nice”… and ENTHUSIASTS, who know how a proper car sounds should at least approximate to, dont FEEL it.

Go watch a vid of Shift, and you can feel the sounds this way( at least they got that pretty nice) Or, Alas, one of F3 and u can see they are al least trying to involve you aurally into the game…. GT5 so far STILL sounds like flooring your mommas cheap Camry

Oh, and they BETTER have a damn clutch button, or at least aggressive gear shifting logic, because i refuse to hear/experience dumb uninspired shifting like that old Camry reference

  8. dearlybeloved

To all those that are complaining about the audio, you do realise that we are listening to it through standard speakers. When the game does come out, it will have Dolby Digital and DTS. I play my games through a Yamaha RX365 A/V amp and KEF 1005 surround sound speakers and let me tell you, all games sound awesome. It was through playing GT4’s Amuse Skyline (the one with the carbon body) and just blipping the throttle was getting me grinning from ear to ear, not mentioning how violent the sound was.

So all in all, you guys who complain about the audio, unless I am/have missed something, please be aware that all the sounds that we are hearing are not final. BTW, playing Forza3 and the corvette C6…that engine is just so brutal to listen to. When I compare which sound I like, say between the Ferrari Vs Corvette, I will take the baritone roar of a V8 anyday.

    Peace out.

  9. GamerGT5

Why is everybody is whining about sounds? I think the sounds are going to be fine and perfect. When they released the GT academy demo I compared the 370 stock car engine sounds to the youtube vids. They sounded exactly the same. So I think GT knows what they’re doing. Even on GT5 prologue the engine sound for the SL55 mercedes sounds exact. There’s nothing wrong with their recording. I’m sure they know more about cars then we do.

  10. maxpontiac

I can’t come to any logical conclusion to as why some of you choose to place Youtube videos (which someone was decent enough to provide us mind you) under a microscope for disection. I would point the finger at children, but even my kids don’t act this way. Only trolls come to mind.

    – We have the obvious Forza fanboys attacking with typical “skidmarks” and “tires” comments.
    – Also joining the fray is the typical anti-GT whiner who does nothing but critize the sound and the AI.
    – Additionally, a few “experts” in the field of engineering and professional racecar drivers are here to state how bad the racing is.
    – Not to be outdone, we have a few PC elitists even posting negativity here.

I honestly hope the folks at PD never read these comments for some of you are an embarrassment to GTPlanet. If Gran Turismo is not your thing, no need to come to a site entitled “GTPlanet” now is there?

I am just glad someone has taken the time to do this for us. Thanks for doing this, and please ignore all the whiners and complainers!!

  11. tyl0r_r

Yummy. I’m getting my laps in on the ring in rfactor now because once GT5 is out I don’t think I’ll be going back.

  12. ralph89

I don’t trust this demo to be part of the final game. What I do trust is the GT academy demo, which looks way more advance than this one. Lucas and Daniel manage to get their hands on one, and it looks and sound nothing like this one. But then, who knows. Plus add that the A.I. was pretty damn fast in Daniels lap with the Super GT GTR and he’s one of the top time attacker in GT. Maybe some guy manage to stole some coded ps3 at CES and sold it to this guy, but that wouldn’t be possible. (Hey who knows!) This is just in-fact a leaked footage from CES which is nothing more than just a cheap made demo. So I wouldn’t get hooked on this issue if i were. You’re all just gonna start a flame war here in GTplanet.

  13. Wits

I agree with some people here that PD will need to improve some stuff that isn’t in these vids. I think the release version of GT5 needs the following things as a minimum. reverse lights (needed since GT1), glowing disc brakes, skidmarks, exhaust flames and backfire sound(race cars), much better AI, better (quicker) driver animations.

Altough the sound in the vids is from an old demo it must get much better then this like EVO! says. When you drive a racecar you hear a lot of noise like engine, gearbox and other details like little stones on the road (like GTRevolution). I wonder what the difference in sound will be (in car) when you have tuned your roadcar into a racecar. The sound needs to be totally different imo.

I really hope PD is taking care of these things and put in the Lamborghini Diablo 5.7 or 6.0 roadcar.

  14. Big Ron

This forum transforms into a fanboy and kiddie forum, where Forza boys and diaper kids are criticising about every aspect of a game out of “youtube” videos, made by some gyus driving an expo demo and try to ruin the image of the game series for fans, always waiting for some news.

No more fun to read comments here.

  15. TokyoDrift

    @EVO!, “Forza sucks”?!

It doesn’t suck, more like blows hot air out of the back of the Xbox 360 as the game is played. But, I guess for air to be blown out, air must be sucked in to replace it, so I guess it defies physics by both sucking and blowing at the same time!

Other than that, it’s a fine racing game that while not up to the polish of GT5, is out now, playable, sounds better, and is a whole lot of fun.

  16. lado

Don´t concentrate on the look of GT we alll know how GOOD it looks!! Don´t we ???
We have to look for the details, the important peanuts! Like i said, the start grid. I think the environment looks also very pretty and the cockpits are super and the cars and tracks are awesome too, but we need a simulated racing game. With a thrilling start and fights all over the track and not that easy overtaking. It´s great that they included a weather system. I hope it will be such interesting as the WS. from the F1 which´ll be released soon. Where are skidmarks?? This makes a game more realistic like it is in Forza 3, don´t you think so? And what´s with the tire temperature or the abrasion?? Where are such realistic points ? Fuel also. I think the GT players can except much more for more than 5 years game development!!!! I except more! For me it looks like a better version of GT4. Better physics allright they are nearly perfect! But the AI/ KI however is boooring and the drivers have just one race line?! Where is the action and tension in that race then?? If YOU ALL TAKE A closer look @ one replay on the nordschleife you´ll see that the cars @ the last corner crash into the beam barrier. This is a problem from GT4 how can this be after 5 years ??? Correct me if this isn´t true! OKAY i dont want to heat your emotional state. Sorry if i´ve written sth. that knowone accepts in this way, then correct me.

  17. Vega

I know why the sound of the cars is so bad…

…It’s because PD spent all their time animating drivers and getting their movements and face perfect. LMAO

They left out something that is 100% needed, to put in something that is 100% not needed.

    gg PD. gg

  18. Turbo_3800

It’s gonna look better than this on our own tv and it already looks good being recorded from a tv. Roof cam!!! more camera views getting are we? (lol yoda moment). HOPEFULLY I’ll be able to choose how tight the camera is when driving outside the car. All in all I love it!

  19. WhiteCustomPS3

omg how can ppl criticize the sound from a youtube clip? i dont get it, its sad reading u complaining about everything. the video looks awesome and i bet the sound will sound great. thx for this info:D

  20. S3 Racer

    EVO!
I think the same. Kaz is a genius and perfectionist, but seriously, sony needs to put a foot in his ass so the game gets out…
he said at the ces that if it go his way the game would never come out because he always find pieces to improve ….
He needs as everybody who works to get a finished product for a dead line or near a deadline.
and i think sony is not really happy, cause gt is a system seller, maybe one of the widest acclaimed, and as long it ain’t coming out they lose.
Nevertheless, he is phenomenal as a developper and the game will be stunning and all will be forgotten

  21. lado

I´m really really sad about GT5. So guys tell me one place on earth where super race cars start with 20 meters of interspace?? This is boring, i want to fight for the best position @ the start and for the first corner, like it is on F1. The graphics are awesome, anyway the race action isn´t that great and spectacular don´t you agree ??

But the videos are super!! Good work!

  22. Viktor Navorsky

Man… how can you judge the sound from and youtube cam recorded video? OMG… u should be an Sound Boarder Review… or something like this.

    The videos are awesome…

  23. Nobody

    The game looks great.
There’s one thing in the vids I really loathe, though:
    rolling starts!
Please give us a vid with a real grid start, guys!

  24. François

Really nice videos, thanks ! the wait is too long ! I think Gran Turismo will be the best racing game ever !

  25. EVO!

@s3 Racer thats where the project manager has gone wrong and did not have a good balanced team in making the game. thats where they fire the guy, if the leader does not play its role the team looses faith and the team cans the project. it happens all the time. as for PD, KY plays such a big role (not to mention it’s pretty much his vision) they cannot aford to lose a big asset to the team.

  26. Wayne

We all know that these videos come from the ” 2d demo ” produced by Kazu and co…

I think that there is a long way that they have browsed since this demo…

  27. jester1

i think mentally, i am coming unglued!!! my g27 isnt (fully) compatible with the prologue and I WANT SOME NEW TRACKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if i find out any one has taken a day off at polyphony in the past 3 years………….my brain will start to bleed :(

  28. S3 Racer

    thumbs up tokio drift

Stop complaining it’s an old build and comes from the demo we saw now for months, not happy go on fmplanet.suckers

@evo: publisher not stating release date before game is finished? where did you get that from ?? Wiki??
maxpayne 3 was slated for last years as was mafia 2 as was rfactor,… (we can go on)… all release date by the publisher.
With that logic Duke Nukem was out 10 years ago….

@”i think for this very reason GT5 will succeed, despite the graphics facing an inevitable outdating very soon with all of the powerhouse PC graphics cards out there. ”

Agreed but just there will not be a game which will use the power of an i-processor or the new fermi cards to max, or an engine with such photorealistic graphics like gt, not in the next 5 years.

  29. user44

If the game’s 90% complete then show us another track….if this video is posted by an P.D employee unoffically-offically leaking videos from the latest version… :(

  30. [UK] ANDYW

This looks like the GT5:Prologue game engine to me..

On the replay of the RX7 you can clearly see the graphical glitches when zoomed in (weird digital blurring on roof)..

You don’t see that on the beautiful official concept movie Vol. 2, or the Ferrari 458 Tribute video.

I don’t think anyone (outside of PD’s inner circle) has seen a truly up-to-date version of GT5, I’m sure they’re holding it back to make a big impact on release.

  31. EVO!

oh and btw these arent facts, its called being a reasonable human being. thank you mimaximax for the upload, god bless

  32. Mustangmiha

Do I see wrong or camera angle is SAME AS FROM GT5P???? Damn, i’m really tired of this stiffness or whatever. >:(

    1. Jan

the whole camera thing could be a bit more flexible, cause watching replays over and over you want to make your own stuff.

  33. EVO!

@Tokyo Drift Thanks for calling me out…….. i said the game is going to be release soon because i have to be realistic. there are no release dates that are given nor delays up until the release date for the Asia. there is no way of knowing but i can take Sonys word which states a 2010 release date and ”fall release date open ”…..taken that to cosideration the game must had been done to have an Asia release date in the first place. as for game production goes the ”publisher” must have a set release date for production to stop. a publisher will never state the day of release till the game is done. (why the release date 2010) what i believe is these are the final stages in production, polishing and debugging. and we will get the game soon. forza sucks

    1. Jan

one word of advise: never trust sony. motorstorm in 1080p? yeah. linux on ps3? yeah. the hirarchies are too large for any1 to care.

  34. hojo

PD, please give us a demo or DLC for GT5P…something to tide us over when we don’t feel like clubbing, swimming, driving sports cars and riding motorcycles, etc this summer…

  35. Smudgyboy

As expected smooth clean graphics, apart from, glowing brake disks, tyre marks on the road and frames popping out of the exhaust!

The sounds should be ramped up, when I went to Le Mans the noise from all the cars was deafening, I remember the Panoz one year blasting up past the pit straight, you could feel the noise in you chest. The disk brakes could been seen even in bright sun light.

Seems to be a strange car racing against rally cars?

Still looking forward to this game, SBK 09′ will have to do for now!

    1. Jan

i dont wanna start anything, but if you ask me, we are talking about at least three different games here. i mean who races rallye cars against gt cars? how much fun can rallye be, if you only got toscana and grand canyon tracks? where is the official f1 tracks IF there are f1 cars? same thing goes for nascar… and so on.

  36. JayCee

Thanks for the heads up Jordan & mimaximax for the videos. I’m still floored that this is coming from some random youtube person and still not a peep from PD & Sony.. sheez. Cars look great, the sound is def bad. I was really hoping the sound would be a huge improvement over GT5:P but it just doesn’t seem to be. Oh well.

8 cars on the track. Hope that’s not the final total.. If it is you gotta wonder what the NASCAR fans are going to say when they go to set up a race and there’s only 8 cars on the track. XD Daytona is gonna look mighty empty!

  37. TokyoDrift

@EVO!, almost release date eh? Where do you get your facts from?

@Peter, so you are saying that I will hate the way the cars sound, because you are 100% sure that everyone will… :o/ You need to fire your statistician because you are wrong – I have no problem with the sounds, because for one, those are off a crappy recording, then uploaded to YouTube, and secondly, my audio system does a perfectly good job of immersing me in decent audio from the cars in Prologue.

Still, those who hate the sound, don’t buy the game. Go cry elsewhere.

All I picked up on was the awful synchronisation between an actual gear change and the driver animation. But, I’ll almost never use that view in replay, so not such a big deal really.

  38. Kelly

Does anyone else think adding some graphics on the top and/or bottom of the screen to make it seem like a televised race would be cool? It could be an option you could switch off

  39. Bekim

    blademask

No need to be a smartass. I was simply stating how bad the sounds are even after they said the sounds will be significantly improved for GT5. I’m sure alot of people agree with me that the sound is bad, doesn’t take a genius to figure that out. Can’t I express my opinion? Doesn’t mean I’m not going to buy the game, I’m just disappointed with the sound, especially with that rotary. Stop being a fkn smartass, it’s not appreciated.

  40. msek

I know that it’s no point to discuss things before we get our hands on the final product, BUT… What about the A.I? Still GT-4 style, no action and all the cars are driving 30 meters behind each othter with no atempt to pass the car in front.

It doesn’t matter for online racing, but offline…

  41. peter

i am 100% sure that EVERYONE will hate the way the cars sound. weak, flat, mono, slow, sorry ass, awful, flowery, no bounce, no major improvement. Every manual transmission car sounds like an automatic car. i can not see PD improving the sound beyond GT5P. So they have failed when it comes to sound…like always.

    1. Jan

its a shame the ps3 has… well only half been hacked, cause if it was, i would spend my time writing a forza 3 sound plugin for gt5. :DD

  42. peter

i mean the cars need to sound like that video. which is quite old and the cars in the above videos don’t even sound close to it.

    1. Jan

absolutely right. i start thinking that people get paid for telling me on youtube that gt has always sounded like that. WITH MODELING EVERY F**KING screw of 200 cars – why cant tires squeal like tires and engines sound like engines???

  43. P37Mac

This footage we are getting is awesome, I love that R35 racer! I always new that this game would be worth the wait, so knowing that this is an ancient demo that has no doubt been improved on is all the sweeter.

  44. Svipdag

Visually I’m totally sold. Even if the game only runs 1080p and no 3d, the graphics are ready to go for me. give me a dts 96/24 surround sound audio for my precious Logitech z5500 to sink its teeth into and my subwoofer wont be the only thing in my house purring like a kitten.

So what do I need to know now?

Most important to me now is a complete and verified car list. I saw a 950 car list on some french forum and I think the final word on it was a wish list… If it’s the actual list then I’m totally sold 8 months in advance. I gotta know my cars will be there and that ‘wish list’ covered every wish I’ve got in spades… resurrecting my old pontiacs and oldsmobiles, mid 80’s bmw and honda and porsche, I even saw a hyundai excel on that list… It had like every car I’ve ever owned and if it’s real. Tell me now so I can start saving up. I’m holding out on buying a ps3 until I see what I want to see. If that car list is legit then it’ll feel like the game was specifically designed for me. And that’s what always made Gran Tourismo better than the rest in my book. Not a carlist… MY carlist. My cars. My dream garage never had a Veryon in it. Somebody’s does, and by all means give it to them, but that dream car list didn’t leave out the cars I didn’t even know I wanted.

Since there seems to be a lot of focus on car damage I had a suggestion to throw out… Don’t force body repairs to happen between races… My buddies and I really loved motor city online for the fact that you could bring a bent up thrashed rusted post apocalypse mobile in to a race against all these pristine pretty boys. Show up to the fight with some battle scars you know?

Weather? I can’t say I care at all to take a turn on the nurburgring when it’s covered in snow and ice… I agree with the developers that theres a point where weather gets so bad it takes away from the Drive… though I’d sure appreciate some spectacular thunderstorms… Good flash of lightning might distract you long enough to brake late into a turn and wet roads seems like the same kinda fun you get out of dirt tracks…

Obviously if there’s going to be nascar in the game we’ll have at least one of the superstar tracks like an indianapolis or a talladega, but I’d like Bristol to be there… If it’s true that there will be 16 opponents online and car damage then there’s no better place than Bristol for that ‘knife fight in a phone booth’ feeling.

  45. EVO!

For one, i did not down play the “sound quality” based off a youtube video!

Two, i came to this conclusion because, the sound they recorded do not offer the aggressive powerness these engines output! its not the sound quality, it’s the agressiveness off a 500hp car! (to me, they sound flat)

No offense, but i like to feel shiver down my spine when a 500hp beast roars out of a corner.

I picked on the sound because its almost release date!! Trees, shadows ect. dont matter (i agree) Sound is one thing gt series have the lack of, and NEED to focus more on. i want to hear the full potential of uncompressed audio on a 7.1 surround system.

This is an old demo and I believe in PD. Day one buy :D

  46. GT52012

I got a feeling the game has been finished for a while, Sony is now wanting to include 3D as an option to push their new TV for the fall holiday season. I could really care less about 3D hype, just release the game already.

    1. Jan

i certainly want head tracking. sounds really useful to finally be able to see into hairpins. 3d could be neat as well. think about a fast approaching corner, you’ve never seen before. how do you know if its far away or near? when do you brake? with 3d you can tell. :))

  47. ralph89

Agreed with KiwiNoodleBowl. You guys still don’t have the game and yet you judge it like you owned it for years. We will see that engine base effect when you set those on your surround sound. Since PD is one of those racing game developers that like to make their sound high quality instead of raw sound. We’ll see how good they are on putting it in a high quality surround sound system. (Since that’s the only way you’ll find out how good their sound is)

  48. KiwiNoodleBowl

    The interior shadows.
    The 2D trees.
    The sounds.
    The nose cam.
    The texture resolution.
Im amazed to see how many children are following this blog and the video game it highlights, because the endless nit picking about completely non-essential elements makes it sound like there are a lot of them; and they are spoiled rotten and irritating as ****. Im guessing there would be these pedantic complaints if the game was given to these kids for free, in a gold box, on a platinum disc, and came with a wire that plugged the game harmlessly into the brain that digitally triggered the perception of g-forces and wind.

GT5 is going to set the standard and redefine the genre (again). Let them get the game out to us entirely before you start whining again about those clouds on the horizon being 2D and how the tires arent properly bump mapped for tread detail.

  49. EVO!

    Word^ Bekim

The ferociousness of the engine is whats missing. (they do sound like the them, but wheres the kick) plus, they do sound sterile…. all cars in the video sound like they were recorded inside a sound booth. whats missing is the echoing sound of the cars going around track, the backfire pop of the exhaust. the real gritty nature of Motorsports racing

  50. Carbonfibre

Physics, Graphics and Sounds are all in equal proportion for me (and FFB – but I can’t test that). If the final version turns out sounding like that I’m afraid it’s no sale!

Of course it’s a no-brainer purchase for users with a PS3 already, but for me the investment would be rather larger and off-putting when I could get better immersion on the PC.

    1. Jan

get a 360 with forza 3 or dirt 2 on pc. much better sound design. but i think you are missing out on smth. epic. ;)

  51. blademask

OH NOES BEKIM!!!! The world is over!!!!!

Guess thats 1 less person not buying GT..

    Darn.

How about you wait for a demo or a non youtube video before judging sound quality.

    1. Jan

omg. its obvious that the sound is rubbish in gt5. but… i am afraid that apart from the very very very late launch are pretty much the only things you can criticize about this behemoth of a game.

  52. Bekim

I feel like I got slapped in the face hard. That RE RX-7 sounds like absolute crap. Were they trying to get a 20b sound? They failed miserably. Doesn’t the real one have a peripheral ported 20b? It sounds beastly, this definitely doesn’t. :(

  53. Matthew

Beautiful footage. I just wish it were from a direct feed.

I think the only reason I’ll play Gt5 is for the Le Mans and F1 cars. Oh, and WRC of course.

The physical feel of the game will be the most important thing for all of us racing fans. I think for this very reason GT5 will succeed, despite the graphics facing an inevitable outdating very soon with all of the powerhouse PC graphics cards out there.

I am still having great fun with the F2007 Ferrari F1 from Prologue. Nothing else I’ve played compares. It is such an amazing beast. Insane acceleration, unbelievable braking, and a very robust top speed. When I’m looking to zone in and blast around tracks all around the world, I want to do it on Gt5. This has been such a long wait. Bring it on, Polyphony!

  54. Flagmo-T

Thanks for this inside, it only makes me droll more, damn Need to change the god damn T-shirt again.. I better get a stack besides me, more will come, and It wont be worse.. Thanks !!

  55. aelange

i’m a little worried, so far on the videos with full on race cars there have only been 8 cars on track. i hope that isn’t the case in the endgame because of their more advanced crash dynamics compared to road cars….
