This is the 100th running of the greatest spectacle in racing. The oldest race of the triple crown has seen famous drivers such as A.J Foyt, Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Mario Andretti, Al and Bobby Unser, Emerson Fittipaldi, Juan Pablo Montoya, and Jacques Villeneuve take the checkered flag in first position.

33 cars will take the green flag in what is expected to be one of the most exciting runnings of the race in recent years. For the first time ever, the race is completely sold out. Nearly 400,000 fans will be attending the race at the newly renovated facility and for the first time since 1950, those living in Indianapolis will be able to watch the race live!

Pre-race coverage in the US starts at 11am EST on ABC, tv coverage will be on BT Sport 1 in the UK.

It's the most important race on the Indycar schedule, it's one of the triple crown events (both Monaco and Le Mans get their own thread),and it's the 100th running.

I guess I don't see the point in any race a part of an overall series having it's own thread. Le Mans made sense as it's own thread, but now that it's a part of a larger series, it's discussion could easily be held in a thread for the FIA World Endurance Championship, same with Monaco in a, sadly non-existing, thread for the current Formula 1 season.
 
I honestly hope Hinchcliffe wins. That would be the cinderella story if there ever could be one.
 
Standing in line right now at the turn 3 gates, it's already a bigass crowd forming.

I was more of an IROC(I'm talking 1970's IROC) fan than Indy. That was more of a Pro Bowl for me. ;)

Mainly cheering for Will Power being an Australian, but I'd be very happy to see Hinch win too.

Le Mans is a bigger event than the whole championship. Same for the Indy 500.

I'll be cheering on James Hinchcliffe and Will Power (being an Australian), with Alex Rossi being my wildcard. Hopefully the race can live up to the hype. Can't wait for this race. Probably the biggest one of the year, on par with the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

I thought Hill was the only driver to have won the triple-crown-proper?

Am I the only one that can't believe Indy has lifted the blackout in the state of Indianapolis for the first time since 1950? I know it was blackedout everywhere back in the day. But not shown live in Indy in recent years. Who knew.

Good job by Hinch giving the shoutout to Andrew Palmer since I would would bet it was not covered on ESPN.

Big crashes are a big part of the history of the track and what draws so many to it. It's something you can't not talk about.

Only hope we currently have of seeing that happen again any time soon is with Montoya. Don't think that'll happen though (despite getting a go in 919), as he's stated that he doesn't really want to race in Europe again... something about a wife, three kids, and middle age spread probably :D
