This has been mentioned before, but I'm starting to be afraid of Kurt Busch's performances this year. He has that win from Martinsville and another top 5 at Auto Club, but his constant showing of poor finishes is pushing the new Chase system to it's limit. Before tonight, he was 28th in points, and despite 29th place (in points) Justin Allgaier finishing 37th and not gaining much on the driver of the #41, Kurt's still flirting with that 30th place 'bubble'.

Another few DNF's and Busch may be on the outside looking in.

This isn't anything like David Ragan and FRM winning at a plate track last year. This is a championship-caliber driver with a first-class team that is just having bad luck. Once the bad luck and broken parts stop happening, he'll cruise right back up toward the top 20, especially now that the Indy distraction is gone.

So, Jimmie has now won the following races:

Daytona 500 (x2)
Brickyard 400 (x4)
Coca Cola 600 (x4)
Southern 500 (x2)
Sprint All-Star Race (x4)

Is there a driver with more big-race wins other than Richard Petty?

How about his boss?

Gordon

Daytona 500 (x3)
Brickyard 400 (x4)
Coca Cola 600 (x3)
Southern 500 (x7)
All Star Race (x3).

I guess we have to add Championship Trophy (x6). *Ducks for cover*

Well you changed the equation now. Then again, the Southern 500 one is ambiguous because you are only counting what the current Southern 500 is (which is a continuation of the March Darlington race). Jimmie had one victory in the September race whereas Gordon had 5 victories.

It's not really fair what NASCAR did to Darlington, especially for drivers that started racing after 2004. To me, if you win the 500-mile race at Darlington (no matter when they hold it), you can call yourself the Southern 500 champion.

Whichever equation you use, Gordon has more victories at Darlington and Daytona. They are tied at Indy and Jimmie is one ahead at Charlotte.

I didn't realize Jeff had so many wins at Darlington. Seven wins in the Southern 500 is a huge accomplishment.

EDIT - apparently two of his 500-mile Darlington wins came in the same season (1996), back when there were two races per year at Darlington. I would only consider one of those to be a true Southern 500 victory, since only one of the races was named as such that season. But still SIX Southern 500 wins is still very, very impressive.

No. The Spring race, when it was ran, was only 400 miles when Jeff won it in 1996. The rest were 500 mile races.

Didn't watch the race. Looks like I didn't miss much. I'd blame Jimmie winning based on me not watching, but this wasn't the first race I missed this year.

So much for Danica getting the hang of it :indiff:

In fairness, that was engine related (although the wreck she tried to avoid didn't help much either.)

The engine and getting hit were pretty much insult to injury to me. I believe she was 2 laps down about 25th when her engine started its problems

The rumor is that Biffle's future plans involve "Anything but RFR" according to frontstretch.com
If true, this is very interesting because it means that Roush will be at three cars next year, as I doubt 3M wouldn't follow Biffle. Not only that, but if Biffle has 3M in his pocket, it's highly likely that, like Edwards, might be able to convince a team such as JGR to get a 4th car.
Biffle has three possibilities- either JGR (Kenseth is probably openly lobbying for him), MWR, or RCR (Although that's not going to be around very long- Ty is going to be up by 2016, which means drama there).

I hope Biffle leaving will give someone like Trevor Bayne or A.J. Allmendinger a Roush seat

I think Allmendinger seems pretty set over at JTG right now.

Also, Trevor Bayne was already announced to drive in the 6 car full time.

From what I read, Biffle wants to and plans to stay at RFR in the #16 car. The holdup with his resigning is the negotiations is with sponsor 3M.

Rumors of him leaving seems to have stemmed from a vague comment Biffle made in a SiriusXM interview.

Trying to think where else would Biffle end up at ?

I do believe though if he does leave, I think 3M would go with him.

I'm more convinced that Edwards will leave than Biffle. If Biffle leaves and Edwards stays, then cookie for Roush. If Biffle stays and Edwards leaves, that's not too good. If both leave, Roush is in a lot of trouble.

Dinger has a multi year contract with JTG.
Honestly, it depends on if Biffle comes with 3M. Without 3M, don't see where he'd go.
Also...... I really don't see how Hornish doesn't end up in a Cup Ford next year.

He can't even get sponsorship in Nationwide, where he very nearly won the title last season.
They only run 12 races a year, which makes sponsoring them, by way of Motorcraft, not very expensive.
Not much of a problem for the Wood Brothers

I think, after putting two and two together, This means that Sam should take over the Wood Brothers ride upon Bayne's departure since he has funding problems for some reason. Makes sense. As for whatever Nationwide position he has at JGR-KBM, give that to Darrell Wallace Jr.

Not happening. Wood Brothers are connected to Roush, and Roush has expressed interest in having one of his current Nationwide drivers in the car next year. If I were to guess, it would be Buescher.
