The points leader can't be eliminated after any round.

After 26 races, the point leader is guaranteed a spot in the field of 16, even if he has no race win, and 26 other drivers have one. The top 15 winners by number of wins, with ties broken by point total, advance. The point leader gets in as the 16th driver, no matter what.

In the three elimination rounds in the Chase, there are only three races per round. So, even if three different drivers win each race, the points leader will always qualify for the next round, even when only four drivers advance to the finale at Homestead.

According to USA today, Stewart should be cleared to get back in the car on Feb 14th, a day before the Sprint Unlimited.

You cant deny the new system will be exciting. Is it 'pure'? No. But neither is lots of things in modern racing in all discplines.

The last race will shatter NASCAR rating records

I have an idea if they really are serious about this stupid convoluted system. After race 26, all the non-qualifiers should pretty much go home until the next season. Then simply have only the final 16 race against each other for about 8 or 9 races then the final 4 or two or whatever go head to head like on Monster jam until only 1 is left. I'd watch the heck out of that.
This new system, and I say this as a NASCAR fan, just flat-out sucks. Regardless, I'll still watch to see how it plays out.

Why do I feel like I'm watching the result of George W. Bush and Donald Trump merged into one?

Congratulations America, you now have the NFL on wheels. A championship system tailored to the willfully ignorant. I don't want to hear a word when Austin Dillon wins the championship on a whim this season.

Note that the points leader after the elimination race will move on, the regular season leader will not be ushered through and could be knocked out early.

The only record I see shattering will be the calls to only have the chase guys run these races.

AND LO AND BEHOLD, AS I TYPED THAT OUT...

My point was that the leader of the points can never be knocked out when it is time to eliminate drivers. I didn't say that the regular season point leader would continue to lead after the Chase started.

So that makes it ok?

The last race will shatter NASCAR rating records

If you mean "For the least viewed race on TV", then its on target for that already.

It's already been pointed out that someone could win the 35 races from Daytona to Phoenix but flop in the Homestead race and lose all of their hard work and effort. This new system is terrible by all standards, and is nothing but a gimmick.

In other news, Joe Nemechek has been signed as driver of the #66 MWR car for all of the races that Michael Waltrip and Jeff Burton are not running, meaning anywhere from 26 to 28 races (Waltrip runs the Daytona 500 and Aaron's 499, Jeff Burton runs 6 to 8 races). I know someone who's going to be happy about this. :p

I love these new changes! It's gonna make it much more exciting for sure!

To each their own, I guess.

If NASCAR would fix the RACING via car and tires then they wouldn't need to create artificial excitement by changing the points system every other year.

I'm gonna cut my losses and just watch qualifying from here on out in the Cup Series. The point system is complete BS beyond what I thought was possible and quite frankly I could basically guess how many of these races will end. I'm just gonna watch the Nationwide and Truck races, at least they still have points systems that didn't come from Stick & Ball sports AND their schedule is far more interesting.

Also, I have an idea unrelated to Cup: We know about the Nascar Canadian Tire series in Canada and the Nascar Toyota Series in Mexico and we used to have the all star showdown (along with the "East Vs West" race, which still happens). Why not have two similar races featuring those two series? Tracks can be Autodromo Hermano Rodriguez from the Toyota Series and Circuit Gille-Villenueve. Teams would use the same car used by the K&N Pro Series.

Only post I've ever hit the Like button for
Also, if you were wondering, it's more like the SHR-TBR deal, where MWR cars are used for MWR races and NEMCO cars are used for NEMCO races.
Still wouldn't be shocked if we see Joe enter the 87 at Daytona.

It has been reported there will be new pit-stop regulations this year as well.

Brian France- "Along with the changes to qualifying and The Chase we have decided to change pit-stops to make them more interesting to the viewers. Beginning with the Daytona 500, everytime a driver comes in for a pitstop they must exit the car and do 5 bat spins before re-entering the race."

He also made an interesting comment about fines...

"We are also looking into making the racing more exciting by fining any driver that wins by more than a second $100,000."

This post is a joke by the way, however if Brian sees this chances are it will no longer be a joke.

Dammit, don't chance it! Just hope he doesn't see it.

Srsly though: apparently the chase is polarizing, very polarizing. Some of us hate it, and the rest are all for it, hence the NFL line I threw in earlier.

Here's my bit here-
If you don't like it, don't watch races and don't go to races. It's that simple. Brian France may be dumb, but he knows one thing- no matter what he does or says, most fans will keep coming back. When the Chase came around, polls showed 70% or so of fans hated it, and the drivers spoke out on it. Yet you all kept watching.
I have to watch, even though I loathe this concept, as an aspiring journalist. It's my job. It isn't yours.

Had the new Chase system been in place last season, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. would have won the Sprint Cup, without winning a single race.

Math found here.

Nascar: where everything's made up and the points don't matter!

I'm just waiting for a fan vote to play a role in deciding the championship.

I really should stop posting these things...

I gotta admit, I like the new system on paper, but I'll have to see how I feel after the end of the season.
