They all got pretty out of shape on the inner loop. Edwards has got a good run of both the last restarts, should be interesting to watch.

Why is Newman ranked above McDowell? seems to me the #31 car ran a shorter distance than #95.

I think that when multiple cars get in an accident on the same lap, the finishing positions are based on where the cars were running relative to each other at the completion of the previous lap our scoring loop. Ryan was ahead at the start of the lap, so he would get the higher finishing position.

If Ambrose is closer to the top 16 in points, doesn't that mean that A.J. needs the win more, since he is even less likely to qualify for the Chase on points?
I think he meant contract wise, both are kinda out of it for points, AJ in worse shape obviously if neither wins a race.
AJ just resigned for 3 more years (can't help but think the guy's miscast doing oval racing). Marcos still isn't confirmed in NASCAR for 2015 @Carbonox

Petty has said that next year is Ambrose's decision. If he wants to come back, he can. If he would rather go back to Australia to drive for Penske, that will be his own choice.

IIRC, you might be right but at the same time, Marcos is more likely to take advantage of a win than AJ, who in all likelihood, probably isn't even in points contention anyway

Irrelevant. Both drivers pretty much will only be able to make it with a win. Barring Kahne and Biffle falling off the face of the earth.

The GP3R Stock Car race just had a huge wreck, it really does show how safe the Cup cars are after the Newman wreck...

Allmendinger is 26th in points. Ambrose is 17th. A win puts Ambrose in without needing to worry about points, not that he'd make it in on points anyway. A win guarantees Allmendinger to make the chase also, but he'd be 16th at best. Ambrose would be better in the chase than Allmendinger would be.

The real irony is that A.J. winning would make it even harder for Marcos to qualify on points alone, as he would need to gain one more position in points with another race-winner qualified ahead of him.

@MustangRyan
Makes sense, they don't really have someone waiting in the wings (Dakoda Armstrong at least 2-3 years off), except maybe Annett, who ran Nationwide in 2013 for RPM?
NASCAR probably pays more than Oz V8's and Ambrose, one of the most likeable drivers if not a great oval racer, seems to enjoy it. I'll be glad if he's back.

Kahne's not in it yet as of me typing this, and I'll let @GTPorsche take it from here.

Ambrose is a better oval racer than people realize. He's usually pretty solid at Bristol and Michigan. I think he finished in the top ten when I went to the Martinsville race earlier this year.

👍
top 5 this year for #9 at Bristol and Martinsville.

WOW DINGER!!

Kahne isn't in it, but he's a more realistic berth as he was 8 points back going into the Glen. Allmendinger has this. Took him 7 years but he's finally a Cup winner.

Bowyer decided to give up and spun .

Man, Allmendinger didn't even care about finishing the cool-down lap.

I love whenever a driver wins for the first time. There's no such experience like it for the driver and the fans. :D

Aaaaand...#47 to victory lane! That was a good race, despite the accidents. It was a good battle for the lead with 2 to go. I enjoyed the race, as I often do when it's a road course.
