DLSS is cool and all, but won't it just make every game look the same? Graphics aren't everything that make a game great, they can however push a specific style that benefits the vision behind the art. You could extend this to "realistic" graphics, as 2004 visual realism is quite different to 2014 visual realism. The techniques graphic artists used to achieve this in the past were always impressive, now it might just revolve around letting an AI filter do the work for you.

If you like DLSS, good for you, but don't get upset when people disagree with you.

Enjoy some photos from a 22 year old racing game that still holds up today, with zero AI:

I agree with you about new games, but I'm referring to trying to make an old game like Assetto Corsa photorealistic, assuming that one day the performance will be acceptable... the rest of the discussion about artificial intelligence doesn't interest me much.

I agree with most of what you say regarding AI and DLSS5 and everything.

But be careful with presenting an obvious opinion as a fact. What looks good, and what could be considered a visual improvement is highly personal and should never be presented as a cold hard fact.

I liked the post with the AI-enhanced image of The Great Wave. I happen to have an original Japanese print of this hanging on my wall, and I like it just the way it is.

If you want photo realism in games, DLSS5 is obviously a good step in that direction. If you appreciate the artistic approach and interpretation, then it's an obvious step in the wrong direction.

So which opinion is the best, correct one? There is no shame in wanting different things, guys. Someone likes the mother, others like the daughter. Someone even likes the dad. Good for us to have different opinions.

Well thankfully it comes down to a choice. The wave Art if someone wanted the clean AI version on their wall they can, how that changes your decision to have the original image on your wall matters not.
If you decided to get into a debate with them about it fine its a conversation, but if you aggressively chastised them for what they want in their home on their wall.... well you'd be a bit mental.

If someone wants to explore DLSS 5 in their games, how or why does that bother anyone who chooses not to use it on their game??

I just dont get it. You don't have to use the bloody thing!! Why anyone would feel they should stop others using it though is the stuff of mentals.

My problem is that you (and probably others) state that "DLSS5 improves everything, and that is an undeniable fact".

That's not a fact, that's just an opinion.

It is a fact it improves all games, then its a question of if you like the improvement. Its not designed to make it look worse. I'm all for games having a look, and retro games being retro games, but for its fun to watch from a tech persective.

Its like the turkey teeth, its undeniable they look better than normal teeth objectively. But then there is a valid questuion of whether you want bright white perfect teeth personaly yourself.
Anyway its a choice, the ones who hate it seem to be the ones who try to stop anyone talking about it unless slagging it off. I also do not see games as Art, i see some games as having clever Art styles same with films... but to me Art is Art, same way i hate pop stars calling themselves 'Artists'.. personal thing..

Yes, a fact. Just like this fact; that the restored painting on the right is an improvement over the original, because it has been restored in good faith, in order to make it look better. Just look at the colours! How much more vivid and contrastful the painting now is, compared to the old, faded one with paint peeling off from everywhere. Good job. And that's a fact, I even proved it with pictures, and you cannot deny it.

Livery spreadsheet project update number: 42069

We added over 606 liveries last month. I think that might be an new record? idk who is keeping track.

THERE IS A LOT OF COMMENTS HOLY HELL! We are slowly working through them. Daily job and all that etc.


As usual thanks to Livery Archaeologists Loulaz who has like linked easily over 200+ liveries atp (seriously just DM me and i'll give you editorial rights lol.

and ofc to everyone else that has contributed to this way to big project.

I like some of what DLSS5 does, namely I've seen in skyrim screenshots it can really improve lighting and the material shading especially on skin and hair, but at the same time it also just completely changes how characters look by superimposing it's "retextures" (I know that's not what's actually happening but I don't know else to describe it) which I am not a fan of. A version of DLSS5 that's much less intrusive I think would be a nice option to have. Maybe that's just me, but I would like to have DLSS5 be something that I can sort of use like reshade, it's there to enhance the visuals without totally changing them. This will probably never happen though.

That's like a common misconception many have made regarding DLSS 5 since its leak, that it drastically alters the look of characters completely, when in reality it preserves the shapes and looks of the characters, while only altering the shadows, materials, occlusion and scattering like this recent video from NVIDIA themselves explain:

And in someway it is already possible to alter the look of DLSS 5 in games how much you want since the leak is pretty much a mod used for ReShade with all of the parameters found in that NVIDIA video already available, so would be nice to have preset values saved and shared around for each game somewhere so you can easly load a NR profile per game you're running.

this is brilliant! ive lost all my mods this weekend and many liveries ive collected over time. thanks man

  • CSP previews:
    • Tonemapping, ambient and environment illumination now match the ones configured in Content Manager;
    • Reflections, shadows in reflections, ground switches, DOF and HDR switch are respected;
    • Proper mirrored bloom shader;
    • The implementation is moved away from default Weather FX style;
    • Steering is applied smoothly, stopping some suspensions from exploding;
    • An issue with some cars getting stuck fixed;
    • Smaller fixes;
    • A new option in Small Tweaks restoring old broken look from a few versions ago, for old presets tuned for CSP to still work.

Yes, we came from a long hard way to have these results now in preview generation, I think it took more than 30 builds.

Cheers, I wanted to see the changelog and my 1 month expired yesterday. Bad timing. Looks like the ever-oppressed CSP preview users may have finally gotten their patch.

Considering the fixes listed, I'll probably pay in again in a few days - as long as the post-release bug report isn't a disaster. The suspension stuff seems pretty pressing.

I have been an AC1 player since the very start in 2014 , bought it when it was first released. Imho its still the best feeling racing sim in terms of FFB and car handling out of all the racing/driving sims

What Peter B and x4fab have done for the game is nothing short of miraculous and has improved the look of the game tremendously but it seems as though the game engine itself is the limiting factor to future graphical improvements .

The next logical step would have been ray tracing / path tracing but the game engine doesnt allow for that , sadly .

The improvements that Peter B has done with Pure and LCS shaders have been fantastic but i fear there arn't many more graphical improvements that can be made due to limitations of the game engine itself . The 3D clouds / weather transitions was the latest addition but i prefer the sky boxes myself.

So I see the implementation of DLSS 5 as an attempt to improve the graphical fidelity of the game without having to completely re-write the game code !

Whether or not its to everyones taste is a matter of subjective opinion. Everyone has the right to that.

But AC1 does imo need a graphical up-lift to keep it relevant in todays ray/path traced world or the game will get left behind and start to look really dated and due to the outstanding FFB and physics it is imperative it keeps up with the latest games coming out today .

The current implimentation of DLSS 5 is rather crude at the moment but once it gets refined I am sure it will improve the look of the game greatly .

I play in VR so i wont be able to use it in VR for a good few years yet due to the performance impact but i cant wait for the day i can !

This soon to be released (Edit: already released for free, see link further down) character placement app with audience noise is looking very promising so far! In theory it could also be used to populate the pit lanes with mechanics etc. 😃
