Well off and on i've played this game, clocked up 100 hours over the years, but for reference RF2 is 260 hours AC has 3600 hours!
I've been running a TX wheel for 10 years! And works great in AC still, and AMS2 just never engaged me....
Now i hate to be that guy, but i upgraded to Fanatec 8nn, and Oh boy, has it transformed AMS2, i can't stop playing it now, just hot lapping, its intense, and that is just on bog dtandard defult setting.
Even lowered FFB in wheel to make it 6.4nn.
In some ways its quite sad in the context of sim racing, that you need a DD to make it come alive (same goes for ACC IMO), where as both AC and RF2 are great on none DD, in fact so far i prefered my TX in AC than my new DD.

But yes, I get it now, having a blast and can tell i'll be using AMS2 a lot more now...

The Fanatec CSL is a fantastic piece of kit, comming from a TX, it really is what they say it is, a game changer. (as great as my TX has been all these years, serious bang for buck 250 quid for 10 years sim racing)

When I picked up a Moza R5 a few years ago. I was really surpised and impressed. How quite the wheel is and how smooth more immersive force feed back.

I do not think it is sad that DD wheel is need to get the best experience. Especially these days when entry level DD wheels are affordable if you consider it an investment that should last a minimum of 3 years.

It is one of those things that until you have had a chance to spend several days with a DD wheel you will not really connect with the benefits. No amount of time watching videos can equal hands on experience.

I have thought about trying out a sim racing gaming event center. To see what a full sim cockpit and maybe VR would feel like. $30 to $40 minimum for an hour or two is kind of pricey. Especially when believe they use AC, RF2, or I-racing.

I don't agree with a DD being necessary to enjoy this game, sure it'll be better I have no doubt but I wouldn't label my experience with a T300 as poor. It's actually very good relative to other games.

Indeed, by 'sad' i meant that i wasn't really ever enjoying just driving in AMS2 before and like i say AC with my TX is great and as i played AC the most it didn't upgrade for 10 years.
I guess its similar to devs making games that work best with a 5090, most people are not going to be stupid enough to buy a 5090 unless money is no object..
I also am aware that both AMS2 and ACC carry FANATEC bilboards around the virtual tracks, so i wonder if that tie in meant games were tested and made for best use with them, shot in the dark not saying any truth to it...

Are you calling me stupid ?

Being serious though, I bought a top-end gaming PC to replace my XBox SXes with some retirement money I got

I still can't get AMS2 to recognise my Logitech G Pro :grumpy:

You can use just about any wheel with AMS2 using a custom setup. Are you saying that you can't even define the wheels parameters?
Define the wheel first and then you can start mapping everything. I haven't done this in ages so I don't know what the correct terminology is and I'm nowhere by my rig.

Here's a guy using that wheel right here. Not that this will help you personally but it can and will work.

Usually my G pro works with this game, but sometimes after an update it wont work. Usually I have to remap every axis and button. Sometimes I have to go into a folder and delete a file to even get it to recognize the inputs before I can remap. But once I have everything dialed in it's a pretty nice experience, trueforce and all.

That's my issue and maybe I haven't grasped that once you are on PC you have to reset and remap everything everytime there's an update. I expect it to recognise my wheel and use the settings I spent 2 hours inputting last week. On my Xboxes things work, full stop.
I'm not stupid and I work in an IT environment but I can't be bothered to go into folders and change settings that were fine a week ago.

I haven't had to remap everything after an update. Unless it happens to a specific brand of wheel.

The only thing I can think of is if you're unplugging your USB from your base on your PC every time you're done using it and then plugging it into a different USB port the following time. This has happened to me. I accidentally plugged into a different USB port because I cant's see the back of my PC very well, and it acted like the wheel was new and not mapped anymore. Plugging back into the same port and restarting AMS2, it then acted like nothing happened and all settings were there.

Had a few amazing quick races with entry formula cars (the first ones in the formula list). Then even better races in the classic sport cars. I have not raced much since the major update. Almost feels like they did a small update. Could also just be my settings that are dialed in. FOV for in car - great maybe the best I have set. Force Feed Back is default, still feels great to me. Anyways at least for these races basically zero feeling of sliding in the turns. Cars feel planted which makes much better experience.

I use a USB switch to change between ps5 and pc without having to unplug anything, so maybe that is the culprit. It doesn't happen every time though, usually it's after I have not played for a while and I'm returning after a major update, so not sure exactly what causes it. If I played the game more consistently I would probably be able to figure it out

Agreed it should just work. I am used to it since PC is my primary platform and sometimes that's just how things go. My sense is with games like this one there is so much going on and constantly being updated from a small team that things can break sometimes. I remember after one update the shift indicator lights stopped working for a little while, and not sure if it only got fixed because I made an account on the support forum to try and let them know. As for the losing mapping, it does seem to possibly be specific to this wheel, but I have not searched the support forums or anything recently. I did find enough to point me to the file to delete though, I think that may have been on the steam support forum page for the game.

If you're still using an R5, would you mind sharing your FFB settings (in-game and Moza Pit House) for AMS2? It's always felt "notchy" to me, compared to AC and ACC.

If you can afford it then no problem. 5090 is like 2-4k, if I had a chunk of money to budget (like you did) i too would get one most likely.
Truth is you can have a blast and play most good sims on much much lower spec GPU's.
I run a 2070 as just when i was about to upgrade the RAM issue arised.
My 2070 is great at 1080p, I also purchased it during covid and the big price spike so 2nd hand it was 500 quid!! But i did chop in a 1060 6GB for 220 quid..... crazy.

So i'll get another year out of it and see where the market is.
My point comes down to if you want your game to be mass market seller, optimise well for many specs, same with 'sims' and hardare, its why Forza Horizon works so well, a big part is its good on a controller if not better than using a wheel, bigger market.

You can watch this video for some general guidelines. I am certainly not an expert. For pit house settings even with R5 usually just have set at 80 or 90 percent. I do not believe there would be any concerns at 100 percent. Will edit this response and provide in game settings later today.

In game FB for me as follows:
  • Default
  • Gain - 75
  • LFB - 0
  • FX - 70
  • Damping - 35
  • MSS - 10
Camera - cockpit is 119

Moment - currently have everything turned off and set to zero.

Just did Porsche Carrera Cup.

Right now looks and feels amazing.

Can feel the tires fight for grip in turns, under braking. Get vibration in wheel under braking especially heavy. Can definitely feel the different track surfaces and curbs. Can control braking and gas along with slight counter streer when the car starts to slide. As long as notice, catch it in time. For medium to slow corners depending on situation will take my left hand off the wheel and just allow the car to pull itself around the corner.

Feels amazing right now - the best that I have ever experienced in any race game. On the bases that besides AMS2 have only really played project cars and AC from sim perspective. Not counting early years 20 plus years ago when did not have adequate computer etc.
