When I get the game, will I need to download lots of patches and updates?

Or will it be fine out of the box?

Also, how much hard disk space does it take up?

1. Yes. The 1.03 patch is ~115 MB.
2. Lots. About 1.8 GB if I remember correctly.

As for dying in BF2, it is 80% skill and 20% luck.

But it really depends on what you are doing. If you are capping flags, shooting badguys and contributing to the team, you will tend to die more often than the guy who just sits back, lets his teammates do all the work while he picks off the random stragglers from his comfy sniper's perch.

A lot of the time, it's just playing smart that keeps you alive. Don't hang too close to a hot CP, especially one that your team has just taken ---you'll get blown to bits by enemy arty. Don't spawn at a CP that's being swarmed by the enemy, you get killed easily. Don't charge into enemy territory across an open area without cover support, etc.

Yeah, sometimes, no matter how careful and sneaky you are, you still die. But if you are dying all the time and don't have many team points to show for it, then chances are you just suck.

Check this list out, it's the top 30 complaints about BF2 that people are asking to be changed in the next patch. I still think that BF2 is fun, but i suppose it would be nice if some of these were implemented. There's actually quite a few good suggestions here:

I played again last night on the xbox for about 3 hours. I am definelty buying this game. We had over 20 people in a room, tanks firing, helicopters shooting rockets, hummmers driving around, and people on foot shooting, and this game never lagged. The best TEAM BASED FPS EVER!!! I am more than impressed. I really like how the spawn points can be picked so that you can always be by the action to help your team mates or to try and take over another area. Just awesome!! For a game this big, the graphics are even really good. I flew the helicopter for the first time last night. What a blast.

OK so I had 10 bullets left in my last clip in my MP5. this AT guy shoots one of my men I shoot him and he retreats and I hide for a sec. Take my buddie's kit then chase him and find him on the radar trying to sneak up on me. I fire and he hides. So I hide behind these crates expecting to try to sneak up behind me. He passes RIGHT infront of me and I fire one shot in the head and just after I kill him the game ends.

Well we were basically playing cat and mouse. He thought I was the mouse though but instead it was me that was the cat. You can't stay where you care there are so many alternate routes to sneak up on people. Sometimes it really sucks.

So i played a few games last night. I love it!

But I could not find any ranked servers. I'm guessing I need to play on these to get promotions and unlocks?

I also installed the 1.03 patch before going to bed last night, but haven't played it since. What exactly does it do?

Houston, we have a problem. I just tried running the game, but since i ran the patch, it wont start. I get the error:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item"

I am sooo pissed off. Does the game have to be installed on the C: drive? When i applied the patch, it said i didn't have enough space and need 1600mb free on my drive. My C: drive had about 1gb free, but my E: drive (which the game is installed on) had 6gb free. After I made the space available on the C: drive, the patch ran fine. Although i still have the same amount of space on both drives.

I think i'm gonna re-install the game


*edit* If i try to run off the cd auto run, the "play bf2 now" and "play bf2 online now" are greyed out and can'y be clicked

If I navigate to the folder where the game is stored. BF2.exe no longer has an icon image, and i get the same error when i click it.


*edit 2* I can't uninstall it either, it deleted most of it, apart from BF2.exe and some .dll's one of wich it was throwing the error up about, dice_py.dll.

I just had a thought. It didn't ask me to, but should i have restarted my computer after aplying the patch?

One of the more unusual fights I've had in BF2 was on Mastuur city or whatever its called. I'd attempted to kill a guy 2 times and lost (AT vs Assault) and he had retreated to snipe from above the top right flag in the deserty bit.

When I spawned I went after him but it ended up to be a pistol shooting match at range with each of us hiding behind rocks taking pot shots at each other (Whilst the other 62 players fought amongst themselves...) I finally got him too. It just needed the western style bullet ricochet noises


I read something about the BF2 : SF unlocks and them being able to be used in regular BF2 maps. Anyone know if this includes normal BF2 servers? or just BF2 : SF.

I played Special Forces today and when there is no or little lag the gameplay is awesome. I like the spec-ops and assault guns for the Navy SEALS.

Just watching the review for SF and its score is 8.1, but they said there is slow down. When there is a lot of action, which can also affect the big games on BF2 in 64players server.

Which a lot of people know about, glad I have pre-ordered it now mates.

OK DQuaN I try and tell you the servers i go on at the weekend mate. There is also a new patch out for BF2, which also patches SF.

Here is the details of the patch:

The patch for both Battlefield 2 and the new expansion weighs in at a hefty 280 MB and has a number of bug fixes as seen below. The main focus of this patch though is to allow those with the expansion pack to play on vanilla Battlefield 2 servers.

- Fixed a crash when users switch weapons using the mouse wheel while piloting a bomber (SU-34, F-15 and J10) in core BF2 maps.
- Removed the Grappling Hook and the Zip Line from kits from "The Iron Gator" map.
- Fixed single player loading screens to match map selection image.
- Fixed an issue in the menus so that users can click on BF2:SF ribbons to view the descriptions.
- Fixed an issue in the Browser so that BF2:SF servers are now represented with a green "2" icon.
- Global improvement of collision detection on the Grappling Hook and the Zip Line.
- Fixed damage state artillery icon on the 3d map when an artillery is destroyed.

Just ordered Special Forces from play.com. £15 isn't bad and imo is worth it for this expansion. Hopefully get it on the weekend.

Heard that some weapons in SF can be unlocked to play multiplayer online in BF2 which is hot. They act as a level 2 unlock, so for assault class you must unlock the G3 before you can unlock the SF weapon. Still, that's great news if correct 👍

Or the easy way when you kill a person with a SF weapon on a plain BF2 server, just stel his weapon lol. Like a test drive, also I ordered mine from Play.com aswell.

I WISH I NEVER ****ING INSTALLED THAT PATCH

First of all wtf is the point of 280mb large file!? ALL THATS DIFFERENT IS I GET 4X AS MUCH LAG AS I DID BEFORE. SEEMS THE ONLY THING THAT'S CHANGED IS SILHOUTTES OF SF GUNS THAT I CAN'T ACCESS AND PROBABLY MAPS THAT ARE ONLY FOR SF BUT NOT FOR PEOPLE THAT ONLY HAVE SF!

End rant, BF2 is officially destroyed.

You could always uninstall the game (both SF and BF2) and reinstall them. Stats will all stay, but you won't have the patch installed. If it bothers you that much there can't be that many other choices.

There's practically no one online with the 1.03 patch though. Only with the useless 1.12.

Well if everyone else is playing with the 'useless' 1.12 patch and not you, maybe you should start thinking your end is having the problem, not the EA's end?



I have yet to have the 1.12 patch, but I'm all for fixes.
